    • Not as Loud as Many Reviews Would Have You Believe

I was a little hesitant to buy this train set after reading so many negative reviews about the how LOUD it was. Well, in my opinion, it is about as loud as you would expect a train set to be... no less and certainly no more. To give you some idea, you cannot hear the train running if you step out of the room into an adjacent room. The sound effects like the bell, whistle, and voices are somewhat louder, but those only work with the remote, so you have complete control over that. The only instructions were those that were on the box, so unless you are used to setting up train sets it probably can be a bit challenging. I made the mistake of unscrewing the six screws beneath the engine car, thinking that it was the battery compartment. when I removed the cover, I quickly discovered that I exposed the gear mechanism so I placed the cover back on and put the screws back in. However, by removing that cover, I moved these black, round tabs that need to be set on the sides if the cover. This resulted in the gears popping loose and the train not working. After an hour, I was almost ready to give up, before I finally noticed the round, black tabs were not placed right. Once I fixed what I broke, the train worked great and has worked great for 3 days . My daughter is a huge fan! I have my doubts as to how long this train set will last given that everything is made out of plasti,c including the gears and inside mechanisms. We have had no problem with the remote so far. It has a super long range. Many reviewers state that their remote stopped working after some time, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. If you are careful unpacking it, you can save the packaging that the train set comes in and use it to store the train away for future Christmases. It comes with a one year manufacturer's warranty, but if you are like me, and intend to only use it for a month before packing up for next year, then the warranty is essentially a 30 day warranty All in all, I am satisfied with my purchase as I only paid $49.99 on sale. At that price, I will be happy If I get 2-3 years out of it. ... show more

Got this set for my 3 yo girl and she just lovesssss it! I don't know why but unlike other girls of that age, she's never been that much of a Frozen enthusiast (I blame Olaf for that, as she said that 'snowman with a big nose' has a weird voice and scares her.), but she laughed so much when That Olaf started to spin as the train went. I was surprised at the overall quality of this set, the rails are made of sturdy plastic, the train is detailed and so on. It is made so well I feel sorry to call this a toy! * Make sure you push in those rails properly until you hear a click, or the train would constantly derail! ... show more

We had bought a $40 train set prior to this one that was total trash so this one far exceeded my expectations. Yes you have to get batteries BUT it’s actually fast, and the remote is awesome for kids who actually want to play with the train. My daughter loves this thing, the train car holds all her little people from Polly pockets to Disney toys. Bonus points the Disney princesses can even fit up front and are stable enough to go around the track on fast. Me and my 4 year old are very impressed. We were even able to leave one track off to make it slightly smaller and fit under the tree better and it still works perfectly! Only downside was the connector pieces were confusing on how to attach, I had to call Lionels customer services to get them to send me a manual because it doesn’t come with one, but they do have one they will send you via email, the customer service is great. They attach directly underneath but since they’re plastic I didn’t really want to just go for it and smash them without pre-approval that I was doing it correctly. This is a darling train set. Easy to put together, the track has study pieces. The train itself needs batteries, as well as the remote. The train set does not come with instructions, only visual aid on box.

    • Perfect Train for under the Christmas Tree...
Size: Complete Set
This is our second Ready-to-Play Train set that is currently under our tree. The track and train cars are good size and highly detailed. The volume level is very good but it would have been nice to adjust the volume down when needed. We added the right & left switch tracks to add to the fun! Installation was easy and the remote control paired to the locomotive without any problems. A couple of things that aid in the performance of this train set. Start off with the coupler extenders installed on all of the cars. The weight of the six C batteries help keep the locomotive on the track but the individual cars are a wee bit lite. I added a 1 lb weight to the boxcar as well as place it third in line to help give the train a bit more weight. The train set is on a hardwood floor which helps stability while in motion. The train has not jumped the track yet with a forward speed of between 1 and 2 o'clock on the remote control speed dial. Very happy with this set and the family loves our new addition to Christmas! ... show more

My granddaughter wanted a "girl train" for Christmas that would be different than her brothers trains. I had never seen a train in a pastel color like she wanted. I was about to give up looking when I finally found this Lionel train on Amazon. It was so pretty and had the Frozen characters which was a plus. But the best part was knowing the quality of the Lionel brand which I started buying for my son 35 years ago. It went together quickly and because I had the batteries ready it was running smoothly in no time. Thanks Amazon and Lionel for making a little girls Christmas wish come true! ... show more

We bought this train for our granddaughter for Christmas. Due to travel and other family commitments, the train wasn’t assembled for the first time until a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, none of the tracks would connect properly and completely. This prevented the train from functioning at all.
