I use this LILYGO T-Deck as part of my ham radio and emergency-comms setup, and it has been outstanding. It gives me real-time visibility into the mesh, multi-hop routing, signal quality, and active nodes — all from a compact handheld. During Winter Field Day and at home, it has been extremely reliable for off-grid text messaging and situational awareness. The built-in screen and keyboard make it easy to send messages, configure nodes, and monitor the network without needing a phone or computer. It pairs perfectly with radios and other field equipment, and works great both portable and desk-mounted (I even have it on a 3D-printed stand). Battery life is solid and LoRa performance has been excellent. If you’re into ham radio, Meshtastic, emergency communications, or off-grid networking, this device is a must-have.

Updare: It just keeps getting worse, so I'm dropping my rating by two more stars. After updating to the latest stable firmware, the touchscreen stopped working correctly. The GPS also no longer functions it either isn't receiving a signal or the GPS radio has failed. Regardless of the cause, it no longer detects any satellites. I've verified in Meshtastic Web that the GPS settings are enabled, so this doesn't appear to be a configuration issue. Overall, the device has become even less reliable than before. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Original Review: A disappointment overall. The case feels cheap, and not very durable. The buttons are not very responsive, and require an unexpected amount of force to activate. The touch screen is slow to respond, taking 2 or more taps to trigger response on a regular basis. The Wi-Fi is inconsistent, sometimes it connects just fine. At other times I have to power the unit back off then on to get the Wi-Fi to connect. The unit supports maps, but these don't always load properly. I have tried several different microsd cards to no avail. Restarting the unit will sometimes resolve loading the maps but not always. I have tried using both 8gb and 16gb cards, the problem never gets resolved. I have tried the latest stable, and beta releases... the Wi-Fi and map issues are unchanged. For the price I really expected a better product.

Many setting required computer connection, but I like not having to do the main stuff from a phone app. It does randomly crash a couple of times a day, but reboots without incident.

Best functioning mesh device I have. Definitely nice to have a standalone device that has a ring tone built in and is always listening. Battery will last about 8 hours for me normally before needing a charge. Easy setup and the antenna actually performed great on my antenna analyzer.

I can't say enough about this thing. The old school blackberry keyboard making messaging and configuration a dream. The screen is amazing, touch screen works OK, but I think I like the track ball better. It's light weight, body is plastic but well constructed. Just feels good in your hand. I have a love hate relationship with the antenna, love the performance of it but it does make carrying the device around awkward with its size. Great for a real situation where you need comms for sure, but not exactly discrete when you want to grab a toy to play with when your supposed to be doing other things. Flashing the unit with the web programing interface is stupid simple compared to the old ways. I highly recommend this for an all in one Meshtastic device.

I’m pretty tech savvy. I’ve got numerous heltec esp32 boards running Meshtastic, it isn’t that difficult. I’ve got some set as clients others as repeaters. All of those seem to just work. Regardless if I’m using the iOS app or the android they all seem to work pretty easy. For the life of me I cannot get this tdeck to work. I’m not sure if it’s just this particular unit or what, it just sucks. I’ll turn on a heltec board and connect it to my phone, then try and see it or maybe send it a message from the tdick and it never works. After it being on for long times it will sometimes receive a message finally. Hate it, wish I’d never bought it, I’d be happy with the money spent on it being spent on anything else. Not easy to use, installation after installation yields no change. I’d never reach out to anyone because I already know their customer service is the worst. I give it .0000000001 star/5 all other lillygo stuff sucks also. Unintuitive and literally bordering on copyright infringement with all their stuff. Fix my stuff or give me my money back and I’ll do something about the review.
