  • Improves upon Yakuza 7
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
Basically a strict upgrade from the previous game in nearly every way. Beautiful new setting in Hawaii touching upon new ground for the series. More polished baffle system, intricate mini games and lovable characters!

  • I don't play the Yakuza series for the plot...
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
...I play the series because I want to do the goofy side games. Let me collect weird men! Let me deliver pizzas! Let me struggle to go on dates because I dress too flashy and pretend to fall asleep! If they made a game that was literally ALL THAT and ignored all the mob plot stuff, I would buy it so fast. Anyway - I bought this because I heard all about the ridiculous side things, and it took a while to get to the island where you can do the ridiculous side things, but I was able to be entertained until I got to that point, and I LOVE ALL THE WEIRD STUFF, I WILL COLLECT ALL THE WEIRD MEN LIKE POKEMON AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME. ... show more

  • One of the best games ever!
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
I am a huge fan of the Yakuza series and currently own the entire main series. Infinite Wealth is hands down the best of the Like A Dragon series. I've been playing it almost non-stop since I got it and currently have 102 hours into it. The story is one of the best so far, game play almost flawless and the voice acting is great. If you are looking for a game that will provide hours of entertainment I highly recommend playing Infinite Wealth, you won't regret it! ... show more

  • Best Yakuza to date.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
I have enjoyed Yakuza for a long time, and felt Like a Dragon brought some fresh air to the series. Incredibly, Infinite Wealth is even better and further improves on the series. The game has two new mini games, basically Pokémon and Animal Crossing knock-offs, which are both very fun and add hours of content to an already wonderful and fun-filled game. The story line, with its typical twist and turns expected during the Yakuza series, has also been very enjoyable so far. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Story Heavy Drama
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
First thing to note is that New Game +, and difficulty settings is locked behind DLC. Although not needed or necessary seeing the core length of the game (and carry over data basically making a second playthough a cakewalk); it brings a bad precedent for paid content if other companies decide to monetize/paywall a core feature of New Game +, and difficulty in the future. There is a post game where you can complete side objectives that’s not included in paid DLC, but you won’t be able to fully mid-max every character without New Game +. Like other Yakuza games in the series, this game is very story, cutscene heavy. If you focus on the main campaign over 80% of the game are cutscenes. There are dozens of side activities and mini-games to do. Similar to ‘Yakuza Like A Dragon’; this game is turned based and not a 3d beat em up like other games in the franchise. --Story: Sequel to ‘Yakuza: Like A Dragon’. They drop Yakuza name from the title and focus on the sub title for core series name moving forward (??) due to Yakuza being dissolved at the end of the last game. Ichiban hear news that his birth mother is alive and goes to Hawaii to find her. There are a lot of drama, betrayals, and unexpected events. Tons of events that side track Ichiban and things he must attend before the main objective makes. This makes for a fun, tense and unpredictable rollercoaster ride. You don’t need to play past titles, but is more relatable if you invested in characters story in prior titles. Game does do a good job catching up on characters and their background Kiryu makes a return and follows your party in Hawaii, but in the later 3/4 of the game; you play as both Kiryu and Ichiban as separate parties in Japan and Hawaii respectively solving a huge controversy/mystery surrounding Ichiban’s birth mother. Majority of the time you will be playing a Ichiban for the main story Story starts very slow, and doesn’t get interesting until Ichiban’s mother reveal/travel to hawaii which is around 5 hours in. Granted this is 5 hours in a 80+ hour game without New Game + --Gameplay Turned based like the prequel to this game. Odd looking/bazaar looking enemies are in Ichiban’s imagination. Can be really out there if you haven’t played the previous title or missed the one line the game mentioning it Instead of two groups on opposite ends fighting in a traditional turned based RPG, you have some movement (via blue circle) in restricted area where positioning matters due to enemy placement (back attacks do more damage), grabbing weapons around to help attack (bikes, trash cans, etc), and AOE of your special moves. There are summons in the game called Pound Mates. You basically dial this number to have an NPC help you in battle. Summoning cost money, but if you have tons of money from Dondoko island activity you can skip some of the level grind Enemy groups walk casually in overworld. Have marks around their head indicating threat level: Blue, Red, Purple. Blue enemies are low level enemies which you can quick skip combat sequence for easy exp. Red is standard (at level) enemies. Purple provides a challenge and they are way about your level. There are also mini-boss type enemies that have red or purple crown above their heads. How well your party does really depends on the base level of the characters. Some grinding may be required at certain points in the game. There are other factors like jobs/class, personality gears, side missions. But the main focus is on character base levels for story progression as there’s no difficulty setting in the game Able to change each party members job or class to gain new abilities and permanent stat bonuses. The latter encourages you to switch jobs to mid-max your characters. For Ichiban; personality (Passion, confidence, charisma, kindness, intellect and style) are tied to the job system where you can transfer over skills from another job, and to open up side missions/content. Some jobs require you to have a set personality stat to start them. Personality also effect your resistance to certain status ailments For Kiryu you have the awakening system where you basically focus on combat stances: Soul (hard strikes), Tech (combos) and Body (Grapple) that you can level up. Certain stances work better of certain enemies, for example those with shields; you must use body stance to disrupt or break their shields/armor. Tech is good for focusing on single enemy that does not have shield/armor, and soul is good for crowd control. Gear. Very basic. You have your weapon, hat/headpiece, cloths/t-shirt/dress, shoes and two accessory slots. Weapons are craftable for better stats. Each character have specific bond or story social link with Ichiban where if you complete them and with some weapon crafting items There are tons of side quests/activities to help boost up base level and personality/awakening. Most notable are the called Suijimon, Dondoko, Aloha, and Dungeons Suimon is basically a pokemon style mini-game where you collect fighters/residents (NPC) of hawaii and have them duel. There is a end boss battle against the discrete 4 Dondoko island is basically an Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing type sim where you clean up this trash filled island and make it a tourist attraction to gain money. If you invest a lot of time (10+ hours) you basically have infinite wealth Aloha mini game where you just say hi to everyone you meet, and potentially be friends with locals giving you free stuff and/or quests Dungeons are basically procedurally generated dungeons with various floors to level grind (instead of wandering around overworld for exp) and get crafting resources. There’s also a dating sim, along with your staple mini-games from past titles like rhythm minigame via karaoke, arcade games, be a foodie by visiting restaurants, photo minigame where you take specific pictures around overworld like spiderman games, buying souvenirs, Crazy eats (crazy taxi type mini-game) and fetch quests. All side quests/missions provides good progression feedback as well as story which makes them more engaging Post game is basically clean up of side quest and missions. Able to select your own party. In the main story majority of the time your party is fixed depending on the scenario your in. Overall, writing is very well done, by keeping you guessing what’s next. Gameplay further supplement the story and keeps you engaged. Well worth the money for the core quality story lasting 80+ hours ... show more

  • Fun game, but key feature locked behind paywall
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
As a fan of the series for many years, I always enjoy the story and work that the studio puts into crafting these games. However, locking New Game Plus (which has been a base feature in many games) behind a DLC paywall is a trash move. Do not buy this "standard edition" unless you have "infinite wealth". ... show more
