  • The closest to glamping you can get while roughing it
Wonderful!!! Confession though: So far we haven't used for an entire night - we were supposed to go camping last week, but then the baby got sick. So sad. BUT I will update when we can with them next. That being said - I still have a lot of initial impressions. We ordered 2 mats and I opened them right away for two reasons: 1) To see if they would actually inflate and make sure that weren't defective (they worked, no defects) and 2) Directions day to let them inflate over night the first time and that, thereafter, they should inflate quickly. After they inflated, I laid on them for over a 2 hours (watching t.v.). Initial impression? COMFORTABLE! I must admit that I had been dubious - these are only about 3 inches and I've used 3 inch blue foam mats before and those weren't more comfortable than an air mattress. But they fold huge. Air mattresses are somewhat comfortable for the first hour - but then as you lose air throughout the night (especially if there is a big temperature change) - my hips always wind up on the ground or at least significantly lower than my shoulders as my bottom weight displaces the air at lot more than my top half. So I looked at this little 3 inch thick thing and wondered if it would just be a mix of the things I didn't like in the other sleeping options. After trying it - nope! Since there is less air and more foam than an air mattress - my hips can not sink significantly lower than my top half. I even opened the valves up for a bit too let lots more air out (to pretend there was a hole or a big temperature change that causes the air to condense) - and my hips just rested nicely on the foam that is a softer foam than the thick blue may ones - very tolerable (at least for the 30 minutes that I tried this) unlike if your air mattress develops a hole in the middle of no where. I am a side sleeper and my hips never hurt on these. I actually let air out of mine to make it less firm! Being firm wasn't uncomfortable, just more comfortable for me with some air out. These fold big. I added pictures, one with a water bottle to show size comparison. The mat that is folded a little smaller I rolled twice - I rolled out with the valves open, closed the valves, opened it and began re-rolling it - using my knees and body weight to push air forward, them when it was 3/4th rolled, I opened the valves again ago that I could finish rolling and push out more air. Even though the following benefit had nothing to do with its function, I LOVE it. All tents and sleeping bags that come in bags that you will almost NEVER get the item back into. These mats come in a bag that has plenty of room to spare - so my big re-roll fit into easily! It also came with velcro straps to wrap around the roll (see pictures). I love that the company was basically "honest" by providing the big bags because they know we can never roll it as small as the factory. Although these fold big, that is not a set back for me, as we don't backpack and rarely camp in places where we can't be parked within at least a quarter mile of our campsite. If you're a backpacker, stay away from these - if you wish you could be a glamper but don't have the funds for a camper-mobile or pop-up tent, these mats are the next best thing. No more tough foam mats or bouncy, leaky air mats for me! ... show more

  • Perfect for the periodical camper!
I wasn't sure what to think about this, but decided to give it a try. SO glad that I did! It's a bit too bulky probably for hiking & backpacking, but for weekend trips where we boat to a camp site & fish, it is perfect. This provides a very comfortable night’s sleep! I love that you can blow into the air valves for a firmer mattress, as this is my preference. It is definitely better than dealing with the issues associated with an air mattress: Sinking, deflation, bulky, weighty, etc. As other reviewers stated, the first inflation does take a while (mine took an hour), but after that mine took about 5 minutes each time. This is a bit of a workout getting this flattened back down, rolled up, & into the included bag, but the manufacturer was kind enough to provide a generously sized bag plus Velcro straps to help keep it rolled up. All in all, this was worth the price to me, because I won’t need to replace any more mattresses. It appears to be very durable, & even withstood a heavy ass dog walking across & laying on it a few times. The materials are quiet & odor free as well. I would recommend this & will purchase another if I ever wear mine out! ... show more

  • Perfect - As Good As Best Mattress
I can't say enough good about this, I have camped on blow up pads and foam pads for 55 years, its the first time I have ever really been not only comfortable, its as good as the outstanding Posturpeidc Mattress at home (it might be better, you can tune it!) I slept on this for 3 weeks straight, some camping, some staying at my mom's place, slept like I was 20 again. My body does not touch down on a hard spot, perfect support and adjust a bit as needed with blowing into the tube (6 puffs maybe and I am no light weight) Be nice to get the 3 inch slightly narrower but for what it returns its worth it, just adjust a bit in the tent (alone so I don't need wider) Easy to let self inflate and then blow in a bit more air to suit my body and someone under 220 lbs might well not need any adjustment. I am bony despite my bulk. Easy to deflate and roll up, I won't ever go camping without it. No, its not a real back pack solution due to the bulk (not bad, 2 inch might work but I won't risk it for what I do) If backpacking I would try the 2 inch and figure out a way to do it, its not heavy and its durable. ... show more

  • Great Soft, Plush , Self Inflating Camping Pad
I do a lot of camping, but as I've gotten older sleeping the ground has gotten less comfortable. I have tried lots of different sleeping pads, but this one has been the best for Car Camping. Car Camping is the key, this pad is huge and heavy so at no time would I even think of bringing it backpacking, that's what the Static Klymit V is for. It blows up very easily only needing less then 10 breathes after it has self inflated. The plush top is really comfortable, and since it is a combination of air and some kinds of soft foam it is really soft even for me as a side sleeper. The Pillow doesn't really do anything, as it barely lifts above the top surface of the pad. My only complaint is like all Air mattresses it can be difficult to roll back up, but since the carrying bag is so big, I haven't had to roll it up twice. It would make things so much easier if these manufactures would spend the extra couple of cents on a 1 way valve. What I usually do, is open both valves, Fold it in half and sit on it to push a majority of the the air. Then I unfold, and start rolling up, periodically putting my knees over the rolled area, pushing the air out. Once all rolled up, close the valves, then I purchased some canvas utility straps, that I wrap around the roll, before putting in the bag. So once again, I would suggest buying this for anyone looking for a comfortable, soft, sleeping pad. I really liked that this one was wider also, as so many products are the minimum width, which just doesn't work for me or anyone else who may roll around a bit in there sleep. ... show more
