  • The closest to glamping you can get while roughing it
Wonderful!!! Confession though: So far we haven't used for an entire night - we were supposed to go camping last week, but then the baby got sick. So sad. BUT I will update when we can with them next. That being said - I still have a lot of initial impressions. We ordered 2 mats and I opened them right away for two reasons: 1) To see if they would actually inflate and make sure that weren't defective (they worked, no defects) and 2) Directions day to let them inflate over night the first time and that, thereafter, they should inflate quickly. After they inflated, I laid on them for over a 2 hours (watching t.v.). Initial impression? COMFORTABLE! I must admit that I had been dubious - these are only about 3 inches and I've used 3 inch blue foam mats before and those weren't more comfortable than an air mattress. But they fold huge. Air mattresses are somewhat comfortable for the first hour - but then as you lose air throughout the night (especially if there is a big temperature change) - my hips always wind up on the ground or at least significantly lower than my shoulders as my bottom weight displaces the air at lot more than my top half. So I looked at this little 3 inch thick thing and wondered if it would just be a mix of the things I didn't like in the other sleeping options. After trying it - nope! Since there is less air and more foam than an air mattress - my hips can not sink significantly lower than my top half. I even opened the valves up for a bit too let lots more air out (to pretend there was a hole or a big temperature change that causes the air to condense) - and my hips just rested nicely on the foam that is a softer foam than the thick blue may ones - very tolerable (at least for the 30 minutes that I tried this) unlike if your air mattress develops a hole in the middle of no where. I am a side sleeper and my hips never hurt on these. I actually let air out of mine to make it less firm! Being firm wasn't uncomfortable, just more comfortable for me with some air out. These fold big. I added pictures, one with a water bottle to show size comparison. The mat that is folded a little smaller I rolled twice - I rolled out with the valves open, closed the valves, opened it and began re-rolling it - using my knees and body weight to push air forward, them when it was 3/4th rolled, I opened the valves again ago that I could finish rolling and push out more air. Even though the following benefit had nothing to do with its function, I LOVE it. All tents and sleeping bags that come in bags that you will almost NEVER get the item back into. These mats come in a bag that has plenty of room to spare - so my big re-roll fit into easily! It also came with velcro straps to wrap around the roll (see pictures). I love that the company was basically "honest" by providing the big bags because they know we can never roll it as small as the factory. Although these fold big, that is not a set back for me, as we don't backpack and rarely camp in places where we can't be parked within at least a quarter mile of our campsite. If you're a backpacker, stay away from these - if you wish you could be a glamper but don't have the funds for a camper-mobile or pop-up tent, these mats are the next best thing. No more tough foam mats or bouncy, leaky air mats for me! ... show more

  • Two thumbs up...HIGHLY recommend!
I spent A LOT time reading reviews and comparing self- inflating sleep pads. Let me tell ya, I'm so happy I chose this one! The description of this pad is 100% true. It form fits to your body, just let it inflate (add a couple breathes if you want, not needed though). I like to lay on it, reach back, and let a little bit of air out until it's perfect for me. I don't feel the ground, it's comfortable for back, tummy or side sleeping. The material is very cozy, when I'm laying on the pad I REALLY don't want to get up. I bought two of these 3 inch thick pads and as measured they are 3 inches thick. I'm not heavy or large, but I really wanted a sleep pad where I could spawl out and definitely not feel the ground. Two pads side by side, are perfect for two adults...and a small kid who may sneak next to you while camping. I can slip on a queen size fitted sheet to "connect" the two pads as well. My favorite color is turquoise, so I'm very happy with the appearance. The pillow part is only a half inch larger than the rest of the pad, it works fine, but I love to bring my fav pillow along camping for that at home feel. These pads truly have no nasty chemical smell...what huge a plus! The bag to store them in is slightly oversized, there are Velcro straps to wrap the deflated pad, no stuffing it back in, yes! I am soooooo done using air mattresses; waking up on the cold ground, all the bouncy movement, and needing a pump...this mamma is never looking back. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend these...I like to sleep comfortably (I'm picky) at home and while camping and this pad is something I really look forward to laying on after a long day hiking. My husband fell asleep on his right away (on our living room floor) the first day we got it, I didn't even have the twist knobs sealed for him at the time. He totally zonked out, lol. Two thumbs up! EDIT: 4 years later 2020, they still work great! ... show more

  • 4 Years and Counting, Still Great
Color: Green Bay
I'm an avid camper and I've purchased this twice. The first for myself in 2021 and the second time a few months ago for a friend. My original is still going strong after 4 years. It's amazing to never have to worry about bringing an air pump. I would say it inflates 3/4 on its own and I just blow into myself for the last little bit which doesn't take long at all. It's reversible one way valve makes it a dream inflate AND to roll back up because you don't have to worry about air getting out or back in. Size wise i's pretty compact rolled up if you're a car camper specifically. The sleeve it comes in is durable and makes transport very easy. I regularly take it when visiting friends or family who don't have a guest room. Comfort wise it's great. I have a bad back so for years I would expect to wake up in pain on a camping trip. It's FAR better than a normal air matress you would get at a big box store. I will say, as a bigger person (215lbs) the mattress isn't quite as supportive. Friends that are smaller than me who have borrowed it have said it's very comfortable. For someone my size? It could benefit from a little more padding. For the last two years I've topped it with cheap rollable thin mattress topper I fold over itself from Walmart and it's perfectly comfortable. I would say keep in mind your own size when considering the purchase related to comfort but I think it's still a very worthwhile purchase if you're on the bigger end. It's still considerably more comfortable than your standard air mattress. ... show more
