I was irritated for the right reasons...
Format: Kindle
Winter made me sick. She is shallow and lacks depth...she was always immature and rotten. It was hard for me to read the entire book with out becoming and staying irritated. I wanted to scream at her. Yet I had to finish the book because I love Queen Sister Souljah. This story needed to be told. I needed to the reminder that even the most shallow, prideful, ignorant, arrogant, people can change. I love the truth of how the devil made Winter feel then in the next minute flip the switch and changed her. Her habits were so hard to break and the fact that she became so aware of them that she intentionally chose not to worship anyone but God made my heart a smile. The best thing is how Queen Sister Souljah named the "in between" place Winter was. I appreciate how authentic and real the naming of the place is. Mind blown! ... show more

Deep message!!!!
Format: Hardcover
I absolutely LOVE this book! I expected it to be like The Coldest Winter Ever - it’s not. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated reading the first couple of chapters because I expected a similar story. After I spoke to a friend about the book who pointed out how symbolic a lot of the text is - I opened my mind to accept the book for what it is not what I expected. I absolutely love it!! It made me reflect on myself and want to strive to be more grateful and have more self awareness of my disobedience to my Lord. I absolutely love how she managed to write this story in her normal raunchy urban fashion while also including a major lesson on the true reason we were created and how we will be held accountable for what we do with our time living. Love it! ... show more

Life After Death (The Coldest Winter Ever Book 2)
Format: Kindle
The Coldest Winter Ever Book 1 was the best book!! This book was ok. Winter has been through so much and deserves to get her life back and be happy. But all her sisters are grown now and living their own life. I really wanted to see Winter and Midnight together but from what I've read he has a lot of wives. I want to see a book with winter and the whole family coming together and her finding love or being one of Midnight's wife's who knows. ... show more

I Just Couldn't Finish!
Format: Kindle
I received the book when it was released today (around midnight) and began reading immediately. I got all the way up to chapter five before I was bored out of my mind and ultimately I requested a refund. Spoilers Below: I had recently read the first book because I was aware that a sequel was coming out. Even after reading it years later, it's still a solid and great read! However, this sequel started off all wrong! Winter getting shot? Reality TV shows? What is with this dreamlike state she's constantly in? Ugh! Unfortunately, I read that she was supposedly in a coma? Man, this was not what I was anticipating after all these years. Granted, I did not finish the book, I literally couldn't. It felt forced and I was waiting for something exciting to happen, and after 5 chapters, that was too long for me. I requested a refund. Maybe this review is ignorant of me because there could be a plot twist at the end and I gave up too prematurely, but if the first five chapters didn't hold my interest, I decided to not even waste my time. I was expecting that Winter would be released, track down her sisters and Midnight, reunite with her father, track down the loser she went to prison for, visit her mother's grave, change her lifestyle, something! And like I said before, maybe those things did happen and I gave up too early, but this review is based on what I have already read, and it was terrible. I'm sorry. There were so many directions the author could've taken with this story, and all of them were just wrong. The author should have listened to the requests of the audience and given them what they wanted. And for the people saying "don't let it go over your head," one would have to have a vested interest in the storyline to even receive the message. This story dragged so badly that if there was a message, it was lost because the reader suffered from boredom and fatigue before the point was made. ... show more

this is fiction!! but also based on SS belief's and previous books!
Format: Hardcover
I understand why people are bugging out about this book. Most of yall didnt bother to even read the Midnight trilogy or Porche's story. if they did, they would of known that SS writing style is NOT the same as it was 20 years ago. This book heavily surrounds Islam just as books before has but Winter didnt end up completely changing. She had to die in order to be shown her life and the consequences of her actions. Beastiality is a theme, she spends alot of time as different animals. I haven't seen any reviews saying how SS showed the emotions of animals in total fear of their fates! like the mass billions of animals sent to their deaths each year! yes some parts had me like WTF? and that somethings were a bit too exaggerated but honestly in the end i understood WHY it was all there. this book is symbolic and if you arent afraid to face yourself and your bad choices then put the book down! you arent ready to receive the jewels dropped within the pages! took me 2 weeks to read! I loved it! WELL DONE ... show more

After-the-action
Format: Kindle
The not so good reviews may sway your decision to read this book. Don’t believe the hype, or lack there of. Life After Death (Book 2) is the long awaited sequel to the Coldest Winter Ever. It begins with Winter’s release from prison after having served her “mandatory minimum” of 15 years. She’s excited about new beginnings and the reality show deal her brother-in-law Elisha has offered her. She even struck a deal to make sure her girls - Asia, Natalie, and Simone - could be included in the reality show too. She’s ready to get back the glitz, glam, and most importantly being “that bish.” Winter walks out of prison, wearing a hooded white three-quarter length pure mink coat, red python thigh-high boots, carrying a red Birkin bag, and wearing red Gucci driving gloves. Underneath the mink, she was rocking a Chanel white brocade, tapered, sleeveless mini dress. This was her grand intro back to bad bish status. Winter’s release date is also the debut for her reality show. She wanted to be filmed walking out of prison. BOOM! Fade to black. Literally. Winter is shot and it’s all caught on camera. What happens next is a myriad of emotions, revelations, and self reflection. Winter thinks like the nineteen year old who went into prison. She is constantly looking for the next great hustle. She goes on a never ending ride to prove she is and will always be “that bish.” Life After Death may be hard for some to understand, especially if you haven’t read any of Souljah’s other books. Souljah is intricate with her details and will have you empathizing with the range of emotions Winter is experiencing. I highly recommend you crack open this gem and enjoy the rides (pun intended). ... show more

All Over The Place & Quickly Turned Religious...Good lessons... just poorly delivered.
Format: Kindle
Life After Death was a tough read. Yes, it had a few moments that were interesting, but it also had moments that were dragging, and moments that didn't make any sense. The story was all over the place. There were a few times when I wanted to stop reading. The only 2 things that kept me reading were: 1) the fact that I throughly enjoyed Book 1 ("The Coldest Winter Ever" [TCWE]) and Porche's spinoff of TCWE ("A Deeper Love Inside: The Porsche Santiaga Story"); AND 2) that I was hoping to finish the rest of Winter series & start the Midnight series, but had to get through this book ("Life After Death") first. The writing lacked organization and coherence. A few elements connected while other parts required the reader to retain something that was read many chapters ago to understand something presented in the current chapter. Other parts also just came out of nowhere and we're not mentioned before nor smoothly added. There were a ton of disconnects in the sequence of events as well.... This was the main downfall of the book. Moreover, this book is not really for the main audience that were once die-hard fans of TCWE. (While I did rate TCWE 5-stars, I do not consider myself a die-hard fan of the book.) Anyway, I say this book is for a completely different audience than book 1 because it turns into reading about typical Winter as she wraps up her jail sentence to going to random places, <spoiler> to going to hell, to trying to be saved multiple times, to going to not quite getting to heaven or hell, to coming back to life. </spoiler> Without spoiling it, the book basically turns into a book that's main focus is religion, repenting sins, attempts of Christianity and Islam trying to save Winter. This book is coming out of left field for fans of TCWE. As another reviewer said, it's something like expecting to watch Real Housewives of Atlanta, but getting a religious sermon and hard talking to instead. It also has alot of graphic content mixed in with its religious message, such as, beastiality, sexual violence, etc... which makes it weird when you mix explicitly graphic content with a godly message. While I do appreciate books that cause me to deeply reflect, this book also seemed to exaggerate what happens after death, giving multiple extra chances after death, having a limited and small view of Christianity, and ending with Islam being the best religion out there. As some of the reviewers stated before, I can where they're coming from if they called this Islamic propaganda, because the message did feel forced on readers. I did like the overall messages and lessons of this book though, which is why I'm really torn in my rating of this. This book was alot more fiction than TCWE. There were very unusual things happening in the afterlife, which could very well be true (since I've never been), but it was alot too wrap my head around. It started to have more of a sci-fi feel than just fiction. This book will really make you dislike Winter as a character, and yes, it is true that she committed alot of sins in her life. Part of you wants to hold on to hope and the other part of you hopes she gets what she deserves because the way Winter kept <spoiler>running back to the devil and disliking God, was crazy! </spoiler> Overall, this book was totally different than TCWE and A Deeper Love Inside. I think it could've been written better as far as organization, coherence, flow, and development. I also think it could've been a different way to position this where it didn't seem to necessarily look down on Christianity. I did appreciate learning more about Islam from reading this book, but I will take what I read with a grain of salt, because, it might not have been the most accurate depiction of anything. There were a few terms and quotes I highlighted. I think there's still a way to write the same message and story without it seeming forceful. I don't know. I'm torn between liking this story and not. It's definitely not my favorite. It's gonna be the lowest rated Sister Souljah book that I've read out of 3 other books so far.... However, I do appreciate the overall message.... just not the sloppiness of the package. I'm torn between this book being a 2.5, 2.75, or a 3.0 out of 5 stars.... ... show more
