These are great lights for a power failure. The fact that they come in an eight pack means you could potentially keep one in every room of your house or give one to every member of your family. The price is definitely reasonable for what you get. They're compact and simple to operate. I like the fact that they run on batteries as opposed to being rechargeable. They require three AA batteries (not included) so you could keep the batteries in the individual boxes with the lights and they are there when you need them. I don't like to keep batteries in devices that aren't used on a regular basis because I have had too many lights, CD players and other electronics ruined by leaky batteries. I really like the design. The bottom of the light, screws off like a lid, to reveal the battery compartment. There are two wire handles for carrying or hanging. The light itself is protected by the plastic enclosure until you need it. To turn the light on you just pull on the top of the canister to expose the clear plastic light housing and bulbs. The brightness can be determined by how much of the light you expose. The whole thing is small, compact and well protected. I don't think you can go wrong with these lights for either emergency use or for everyday use where you need an additional light source. ... show more

With 8 of these, I can leave a lit path to the lake in the evening. Living in the Great Northwoods, it gets very dark at night, these lights are bright and really light up the path. The battery life is nice and long, so I'm not stuck walking back in the dark. They seem durable but I haven't stepped on them yet or dropped one. I like the size too, I can stick a couple of them in my backpack, no problem. I will definitely be getting more of these! ... show more

    • Lightweight, sits firmly, reasonably bright, can avoid lithium ion batteries. Good for emergency.
Lightweight, but bottom heavy so it sits firmly on a table. Sturdy. Quite bright, but would not be enough to light a room to daylight bright. It would be enough to read by, and to do troubleshooting for popped breakers. These cast light a full 360 degrees around. You can pull the light up out of the base to control how much light is emitted. I plan to place these around the house for use in emergencies--I live in the country and the lights go out once or twice a year with heavy weather. I like the idea from another reviewer to keep 3 AA batteries near (but not in) the lights. These might also be useful for repair projects under the sink or back of the furnace or water heater. I like that fact these take AA batteries so I don't have to worry about lithium ion batteries. Took me awhile to figure out how to switch it on. I was twisting various parts. This is hands-down, the best pull up lantern I have ever used. The light turns on when the top gets pulled up less than 2 mm. That is extremely impressive. It means that the light is super adjustable, and I really appreciate that. Do you keep in mind that the top compartment does fit extra batteries, but there is an exposed screw, and which is kind of weird, but I don’t think it will really cause a problem. Overall, I’m just really impressed with the light on these lanterns and the ability to highly adjust how much light gets emitted in my space. I highly recommend! ... show more

    • Super bright and convenient
These are really great lights. They are considerably brighter than you would think they would be. If the lantern is fully extended it can light up a small room. I like the fact that you can control how much light is emitted, depending on how much you extend the lantern. I also appreciate that they can be hung up or will sit flat on any surface. They are perfect to keep on hand for power outages, but also would work well for camping, or even just sitting in your backyard or deck if you need a bit of extra light. The fact that you get 8 lanterns is a plus as well, giving you enough to spread around. I think the price is fair for what you receive and I would absolutely purchase these again if needed. ... show more

The units run off simple double A batteries and those batteries can be the rechargeable type if you choose. The quality of the lights is good, they are not heavily built and should be placed in an area where they are not subject to being knocked down of stepped on. I ordered this set of LED lanterns because we get strong storms through out the year and some times a flash light just won't cut it. While I was expecting them to be a bit larger these mini lanterns are super bright. Their size actually works out perfect for saving of storage space while not in use. They turn on/off by lifting the top or lowering it back down. There are two metal "handles" which can double as a hook without issue. Weight wise they are super light, my kiddo has no issues holding one(yes he stole it and now it's "his lattern"). ... show more
