This is an excellent kit for a sax student. In addition to having two separate swabs, both of which have weighted strings to facilitate their use, this kit has mouthpiece cushions, a thumb rest (which students usually don't want to use with a sax, but which they could give to their clarinet playing friends who almost always want to use them and for whom it might work depending upon their thumb rest) and brushes for cleaning the mouthpiece and top of the neck. The case is great for wrapping it as a gift, but after that the swabs should never be put away in it unless they are totally dry. If they were used to remove condensation and whatever else might be in the sax and then zipped up wet, they would mildew, stink to high heaven and end up in the trash. Which would be a shame because they are really nice swabs. Instead, keep the brushes and perhaps some cork grease and a package of reeds in the zipper case because it is a nice protective case and would fit nicely in most sax cases. Reeds and cork grease tend to float around all over the case and this would prevent that, so it's well worth repurposing it from holding swabs to holding small accessories. It also comes with pad drying cloths. I would be really careful using them. They should be used to blot (if used at all) and never dragged across a pad because it could either dislodge it or else damage the surface resulting in a leaky pad and an instrument that is not at all rewarding to try to play. This is a really nice kit that actually may have a bit more than you would really want - but it definitely has everything you really need to keep your sax clean and your case organized. ... show more

So this is a really nice kit for beginners. It's not that it should be used *only* for beginners, but those further along tend to just replace things piecemeal as needed, and this kit has almost everything you need to start. The only thing I don't like, and would caution you about is that YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT to use all these swabs on your spit-soaked horn, and then zip them up in that compact little EVA case. This stuff needs to at least air dry, otherwise it will be a bacteria breeding ground. The Swabs: The cleaning swabs for the body and neck have a nice absorbent cloth that flares, with soft stitching around the edges. The draw strings are weighted, and the weights are embedded inside the cloth material, which helps to keep them from damaging the instrument as you pull it through. The Brushes: The spiral brushes' bristles are coarse enough that they should be able to remove any buildup, while the broom end is considerably softer. The exposed metal portions of the brushes also have a soft coating applied to keep them from damaging the mouthpiece. The Microfiber Pad Dryers: These are a bit obsessive, and I honestly question how many saxophonists have ever used them for drying the pads. The best use I can think of for these, is that there is a very common trick used on occasions to remedy sticking pads, where you stick a piece of paper in between the pad and the tone hole, press the pad down, and pull the paper out, which these might work for. The Teeth Guard: The adhesive on them is 3M, so neat, but they include 16 of them, which should honestly last you longer than most people keep with the instrument. If you find yourself chomping through these, your embouchure is probably too tight. The Thumb Guard: This is really chunky, but looks like it'll stay in place, which is the main consideration. It's probably worth a try, but if it doesn't work out, it's no big loss, as there are lots of alternatives to try if that's an issue for you. ... show more

This alto sax cleaning kit features a durable and compact carrying case that would easily fit into a gig bag. Though the case is small, it is not difficult to repack all of the cleaning tools, which makes the whole kit easy to use. The body swab is large and made of thick microfiber cloth that absorbs moisture well. Each end of the swab has a weighted pull cord to make it easy to pull the swab through the horn in either direction. It is shaped so that it flares out when being pulled through the instrument, and does not have any exposed metal the way some other swabs do. The neck/cork swab is a nice addition and is of a similar high quality design but sized to fit through the neck of the saxophone. The mouthpiece and duster brushes are well-made and sized appropriately, and the addition of some optional maintenance supplies like mouthpiece cushions, microfiber pad dryers, and a rubber thumb rest cover are a nice touch. ... show more

This is a nice cleaning set for any sax 🎷 player. It comes with everything you need in a nice zipper pouch. The pouch is firm and zips easily. Great for travel. This is a good idea for sax players or beginner players.

Pros: Lots of components. Several mouth guards to use while playing. Cleaning components for both alto and berry sax interiors. Exterior cleaning cloth. Carrying case is nice, zippers, feels high quality. I love it when my granddaughter comes to visit and brings her alto sax. She has never had a cleaning kit and this one seems to have everything needed to help her keep her saxophone clean. I wish they had a cleaning kit at this price when I was a kid playing the sax. This one is great and includes many different cleaning tools.
