  • Do not buy! LG charges extortioner service charges to dissuade customers from repairs!
I had a problem with my 2 1/2 year old refrigerator. It was making a very loud noise. As I'm not a refrigerator tech, I had no idea what the issue is. I read that there were many class action lawsuits against LG for faulty compressors and coils. I called to try to set-up an appointment with an LG tech to determine the issue. They said that the only way to schedule a tech is to charge an extortionary $400 "flat-fee"! There was no other way to have an LG tech scheduled. With tax, that's over 50% of what I paid for the refrigerator, brand new! I was faced with having the charge on my credit card and having their extended warranty cover all service and repair for free, or I could hire a 3rd party repair company to assess and fix the situation at my cost. That's LG's ploy, to charge an outrageous "flat fee" to dissuade their consumers from having LG fix their problems. I chose to have the money charged as a hold on my cc and have the tech come out to repair the problem. I emailed the LG President's Liaison office regarding the extortionary service charge amount, and received a phone call from Fernando the next day. He stated that he was authorizing a no charge service call (for parts and labor) per authorization code APN25……… under LG Case #VCN 25…………. The tech came and said that my extended warranty parts were fine (without checking them). He said the issue was the evaporator motor in the freezer, which is not covered; it needed to be replaced. (Consequently the sealed system, including the evaporator IS covered in the extended warranty!) He came in with a whole new fan grill for the freezer that had the fan mount, including the motor and the fan blade. The grill was the wrong size for my refrigerator. He removed just the fan motor and replaced the old one in my fridge. I asked him what he wanted me to do with the fan grill. He told me to throw it away, as he can't use it. The next day, I saw that I was charged for the service call ($414.57) even though I was not supposed to incur any charge per the authorization listed above. I called LG about a dozen times in the following week, and spoke with about 2 dozen reps; each stating that it needed to be handled by another department and transferring me back and forth and back and forth. The amount of time spent on phone calls was in excess of 10 hours. I received emails and texts stating that they did receive the no charge authorization and that managers needed to reverse the charge. Weeks went by and there was no reversal of the charge, so I disputed it with my credit card, a month later. Another month following the dispute, I receive a letter stating that the charge was reversed. 2 days later LG recharges me the same amount! ... show more

  • Icemaker is trash.
Decent enough refrigerator and freezer, but the icemaker was apparently designed by someone who doesn’t want you to have ice. It is like the designer researched everything that was bad about all icemaker, and incorporated them into the design. It makes a minimal amount even under the maximum setting, but the worst thing is that the entry freezes up almost every day overnight and you have to unplug it and get ice all over your kitchen before you can use it for the rest of the day. Out of warranty, the repair charges are exorbitant. And there is no guarantee that they will be able to fix it. I am to the point of frustration that even though the rest of the unit works acceptably, I just want to take it to the dump and start over with somebody else. Last LG product I will buy. ... show more
