  • Awesome phone
If you're looking for value for your money? Look no further. It's like having a little laptop, and makes task switching so much easier. Not only is this phone water resistant, includes a - wait for it - headphone jack, and a 32 mp camera and also a wide view camera, huge battery, and a mind blowing array of interesting features, but the included case has a dedicated 2nd screen. This means - enter data on one screen while looking it up on the other. Turn the bottom half into a keyboard and the top screen into a display (still working on this one). We'll see how long it lasts, but it seems very sturdy so far. My old Samsung Galaxy S6 is still going strong after a good 5 years of use. So the pros far outnumber the cons but there are a few things that may be annoying that should be addressed: You will want to get a screen protector for the 2nd screen, since when using the phone as a -phone- you need to fold the 2nd screen to the rear, exposing it. There are limited apps designed for dual screens. Hopefully this will get better in the future. If you're thinking about using this for gaming utilizing the 2nd screen, make sure to verify that any games you buy are designed for it. The phone snaps into the case which includes the 2nd screen, but the case requires an (included) dongle with a USB-C connector on one end and a magnet on the other. This means that if you forget your charging cable & dongle, you can't just plug the phone into any old charger. Not without taking it out of the case. And if you lose the dongle you'll have to take it out of the case every time you want to charge it. Just something to think about, but I don't think I'll lose the dongle. Plus they're available on Amazon for $30 if I do. And I really can't think of any other cons right now. ... show more

  • Price/performance point is OUTSTANDING!
I traded up from a Pixel 3XL. Just about everything on the LG G8X is better. There is no pause when launching or using apps. A good non-productive example is with the CoC game. The loading progress line with the 3XL would pause for several seconds at about 75%. With the G8X the progress line shoots across the screen with no perceptible hesitation! All apps are noticeably quicker. The dual screen is really a novelty for me. For now, I don't use any apps that take advantage of it. However, It is a great bundle price vs. the G8X by itself. So, I see it as an investment until more dual screen apps are available. As far as size goes with the dual screen, its footprint is actually smaller than my old 3XL with its case protector. Plus, it only weighs 3 grams more than the 3XL with case. I don't notice any difference! I was concerned about the fingerprint reader from all the negative reviews. And, they were right. If you use the screen reader exactly like your old physical reader, it is terrible. That was until I noticed that the position of my thumb when training the reader was way different from how I positioned it while in use. After re-training the reader from my "use" position, the reader is very reliable. Not quite as much as my old 3XL reader which was virtually 100%, but close. I go an entire a week without a "bad" read. Let me offer some tips. Have clean hands. No big deal in these China virus days. You should already be doing this. As said before, place your thumb (or finger) in the same orientation as when it was learned. Again, no big deal since holding your phone is pretty much the same each time. And finally, do not press your thumb down hard on the screen. I don't know if this causes the print to be flattened (smeared) or if the touchscreen thinks it is responding to a navigation command, but a light touch seems to always work. The other great feature is the battery life. My 3XL's battery would often not last the full day for me. The G8X will have 60% battery left when I put it down at night. Outstanding! So, no regrets. Awesome phone and nerdy, gadget dual screen, which I hope gets more apps. Even if it doesn't, it is still cheaper and better than phones that cost hundreds more. I bought the same phones for my daughters and they love them! ... show more

  • Even uf you're not an audiophike, this phone deserves consideration
I have had this phone for about 6 months and love it so far. Call clarity is great on Verizon. Looks minimalistic but sleek. The second screen is cool and functional but I don't really need it and therefore don't use it. Camera is good and should get you through most situations; but there's better phone cameras out there. Where this phone absolutely excels is sound. As someone who listens to music on a phone everyday at work, I really appreciate LG keeeping the headphone jack. There are multiple sound customizations available and the sound is superb. Fingerprint reader can be a bit wonky. Battery lasts me all day with juice to spare. At any rate, $650 is a great price for this phone. ... show more
