  • ^%$$^#$#&$ GLASS
Color: CARMINE RED Size: GSM Unlocked
OK, I love LG phones. Not sure what I'll do now that they're getting out of the business, but I've been a fan of LG products (including other electronics) for at least a decade. That said, the glass all over this thing is total garbage for design-function. I have an LG5 that I had for 3 years before I bought this. Never had a case on it. It's got a teeny tiny little chipout at the upper right corner, and that is IT, after 3 years of steady use and casual droppage. IT has a magnesium back, and protective edging. THIS piece of junk has glass. And more glass. And still MORE glass. The back is glass, the edges are ROUNDED glass.... and GLASS IS BRITTLE. Yes, even bloody "Gorilla Glass" is still GLASS. And when you drop glass, as anyone knows -- it cracks. Yes, even bloody "Gorilla Glass". So, 3 months after the purchase of this thing, it's got cracks spiderwebbing all over the damned thing, including some right across the cameras, reducing their quality significantly. Gee, thanks for the hunk of junk excuse for a CASE, LG. Yeah, you didn't invent the stupid idea, but you did make it a central part of your flagship offering... with no alternatives. "Oooh, but glass is so sleeeeeeek"? Not when you absolutely positively HAVE to put a fat ugly CASE over it to protect it from random natural abuses!! This defeats the entire purpose of making a case out of GLASS. Not "not recommending" this phone -- it's still an LG phone and a great design -- it has up to a 2 TERAbyte microSD capacity, and the 1Tb cards are still in the $100 range, so... You're not going to run out of the ability to add stuff to this -- music, movies, whatever (the benefit to this is that streaming may not work in some places, and locally-downloaded means always available). But I'm just telling you, as someone who never ever needed a case before this: You will need one for this thing. ... show more

  • Device works as promised - beware AT&T customers!
Color: AURORA BLACK Size: GSM Unlocked
Purchased the phone after noticing the dwindling choices in today's market. Seems like it's going to drop down to Samsung or Apple soon, and neither appeal to me. When the news came out that the G series was being replaced by the Velvet, I wasn't impressed. Then the V60 came out and I loved the options, I just didn't need a tablet sized phone. I value the audio quality so the quad dac is what sold me on it. However the AT&T variant was way too expensive for last year's technology (even if it is still mostly on par with most top tier phones). So I did my research and even contacted AT&T and they said the T-Mobile version was compatible. After it arrived I put in my SIM and the phone immediately got full signal LTE and was able to access all of my apps, sms, and even make calls. However it would not receive calls. I called AT&T support and they said that the IMEI of the device was not compatible with their network. When I explained to them that the device is listed on their website as compatible, and even verified prior with support, the person escalated the issue to tier 3, who said that that yes it was indeed compatible, they just had to make some changes to my account which would take 90 minutes. After that the phone worked for exactly 12 hours before the same issue. I spent 4 days calling them, having to wait on hold, explain the whole dilemma ( for some reason they never entered these trouble tickets in their logs, and every person made the same "not compatible" assertion) and then waiting 90 minutes, only to have the phone work for 4-12 hours before reverting back. I had been a customer since I bought my first cell phone in 1996, and explained I would hate to change carriers over an obvious glitch in their programming. The last time I called they didn't even bother to correct the problem, so I swapped service to T-Mobile. Signal is about the same, but I get unlimited data on two lines for $20 a month less than the 6gb shared plan I had with att. Anyway - rant over, the LG G8 is a great phone, my only complaint is that it is a little battery hungry, but it has a lot more features than the Motorola Z2 Force it replaced. I just hope their are more choices in the future not less - that always drives innovation. ... show more
