This product is really cool. I am not an pro drywaller (I don't do it for a living day in and out) but I get the occasional drywall job. This popped up on my youtube feed and I saw a lot of people really like it so I thought I would try it out myself. So my take is this: This stuff is NOT a gimmick. Whatever it is does change the mud. I used it in a bucket of plus three and added ONE water bottle (I could have used a little less water for my liking. This stuff changes the compostion of the mud. It makes the mud ELASTIC. That is the word. It makes it stickier. It also makes it act a little like if you could imagine runy kinetic sand. It also changes the smell of the mud a little. Because it creates elasticity in the mud it it makes it smoother. Because the mud is stickier and more elastic the amount of mud you can fling on a wall and it not run or sag or fall off the wall is frankly amazing! It does not make the mud dry faster but I don't think they ever advertised that. But because of that "kinetic sand" feel it does make it easier to layer over on wetter patches. One more thing. It does adheare very well even to gloss paint and and dries nice and hard. Would a pro need this? No I don't think they would. Would they appreciate what it does? Absolutley. There is a marked difference to mud that has this product in and mud that doesnt. Finally, I could see one "problem" with this product. I could see it creating a handicap in that you WILL learn bad habits and techniques because it's so forgiving. To me as a pro that doesn't do a lot of drywall I will definetly always use this. It's worth it! Mudding is an art and a skill. This product makes my jobs just that much easier. One more thing! You will sand a lot less because your finishes are that smooth and you run into very few high spots. This product is a WIN!

Learned about this midway thru a big drywall project. I’m using this in the second half and what a difference! The speed of applying wet in wet really speeds up the process. Not having to sand in between coats (not to mention having to wait for the preceding coat to dry) is a huge game-changer. I just ordered another bag and will use it on any future projects. Btw, I’m just a DIY homeowner. Yes, it is pricey but well worth the cost.

Works as advertised, I was able to skim coat a 13x10 wall in one coat. I did sand a little bit, but Im after a few uses, I'll be close to no sanding with this product. As labeled you can rework this while it is drying without knife marks. perfect for small jobs, repairs, remodel touch ups.

I first saw this product demonstrated at the IBS (International Builders Show) in Las Vegas. The demo was impressive but I was skeptical. I finally had an opportunity to try it out. I had two 20 ft by 8 ft walls that were recently drywalled and I needed to get them taped and finished fast with minimal mess. Per instructions I added the entire bag to a 5 gallon bucket of all purpose mud and mixed for 5 minutes. The first thing I noticed was that the mud was smoother almost like frosting. I have read that some use dish soap to achieve this but I have learned the hard way that soap in mud can cause adhesion problems. As I was applying the mud I began to notice that I could keep applying mud as soon as the previous layer was firm. It does not make the mud dry faster but I allows you to apply additional coats without waiting for the previous coat to dry. So in addition to making the mud easier to apply, it allows you to apply wet mud to wet mud. Because of this I was able to tape and apply two finish coats and a skim coat to both walls in a single day. Also, because you can mist it with water and keep troweling, you don't need to sand. The job turned out awesome and was done it one day with zero dust. I definitely recommend this product but be sure and follow the directions and mix it well with your preferred drywall mud. Remember that it won't make the mud dry faster but you can add more layers as soon as it firms. In my case I was able to add another layer after about 30 minutes.

I’m a General contractor and we do a lot of drywall. So the big price tag didn’t scare me as long, as we saved time, and got good results. The videos are really impressive, so I bit! We added this product to a brand new box of mud and mixed thoroughly with heavy drill and paddle. We did not add any water. Applied per instructions, and it simply does not firm up any faster than other mud. ( I wasn’t expecting it try dry any faster, but I was expecting to be able to top it faster as advertised). Unfortunately, We were not able to top it the same day. I waited overnight and it was still not firm enough to top as advertised. There were some dry areas on the wall that had a few ridges as expected. I sprayed it lightly with fresh clean tap water and it all bubbled instantly. The bubbles increased with every pass. I troweled the ridges and the bubbles tripled in number! Now I have to wait again, so that I can scrape the bubbles and top with hot mud. We usually use hot mud for the first coat, but I thought I would try this out. It looks great on the video, but beware! Look at the previous review that rave about this product you can see that they are “PLANTS”. I see it clearly now! I’ll be returning the remaining 11 bags I purchased. Yes, I spent $300 bucks my first pop! IF YOU DONT HEED THIS WARNING, then buy only one bag to try it out. Be sure to take your hot mud with you. You’ll need it! You’re welcome! I'm a DIY'er that needed to do some sheetrock work and thought I'd give MuddSkip a try. I mixed in a half of bag of MudSkip in a 3.5 qt. Dust Control Ready-Mixed Joint Compound and did not find it helped with allowing you to smooth out the mud enough or add a 2nd coat after waiting several hours. The mud would start to pull away once you applied it and tried to smooth it out. Looks like I will be doing some sanding tomorrow before applying my 2nd coat of mud.
