Review for a Leupold 4-12x50 CDS. I am an avid hunter and shooter and have owned scopes from many other manufacturers. Zeiss, Hawke, Bushnell, Nikon, Vortex and older Leupolds. Vari-X and VX-2 But This scope is the clearest I ever owned. This thing is crystal clear. The eye relief is very long as well. If I had any complaints 1. the eye box is dead on there is no error when aiming. You can see though it perfect or not at all 2. The scope tube is short so you may have to play with some different rings or rails. The magnification ring works perfect with a short throw from 4-12 But I am hooked now The new VX-Freedom or New Leupold scopes is all I will buy from now on. Owning 4 other Leupold scopes, 3 pairs of Leupold binoculars, Leupold spotting scope, Leupold rangefinder, and Leupold sunglasses, I went against my better judgment and decided to branch out and see what the Vortex buzz was all about. Ordered a viper HS and was not pleased at all. Very short eye relief and small sweet spot. Glass was decent but that’s about it. Sent it back and picked up this Leupold. Should have gone with my first instinct and bought this one to begin with. The glass is clear and the CDS system is great. You are able to get one free dial with the Leupold purchase. You know what a beautiful scope. I love my Leopold scopes. They’re a great value for the money with lifetime guarantee Leopold backs them up it’s not even questionable. Now I got the new 50 mm man. It really brings in the light getting older a little more. This thing sure can reach out and touch. And who doesn’t love Leopold’s new custom dial system? What can I say. Leupold, made in America. I can’t afford the high dollar scopes but I can afford a Leupold because they come in all prices. The least expensive still have the high quality crystal clear light gathering glass. Solid scope and all Leupold scopes are guaranteed for life, wether you bought it new or found it on the side of the road. If it fails Leupold will repair it or give you a new scope, their choice. I bought this after reading alot of reviews about people raving about leupold. I figured this was a very safe bet and would serve me well as a no frills scope on a 308. This has a terrible eyebox, the edges of the class are not clear, the field of view is very small and it seems to have some parallax issues. I would advise a vortex diamondback, i have one with better glass for less money. If you have the money upgrade to a viper. I also found out that this scope doesnt fit in the 1 inch leupold cantilever mount as the tube isnt long enough even though this scope is a 'normal' scope like the mount said it works for. Very unimpressed with leupold and wont be trying them again. The glass itself does seem clearer than some scopes I have in a similar price range but its not enough to make up for the other shortcomings. Also you can return this to the seller at full price if you put it in a mount. I wasnt able to get it zeroed using 2 different sets of rings that other scopes zero in. I believe this is a problem with the scope as other scopes have worked with those rings on that rifle. ... show more
