  • Initial impressions.
Color: Duplex (174180)
So far, I'm very impressed with this scope. Leupold seems to have responded to the market with a home run. I love that it is American made and fully guaranteed at such a low price. The quality seems excellent, although I will echo another reviewer is stating that the adjustment knobs on the turrets seem a little squishy in their action. I feel like they might twist off or break if I got too rough with them. The optics are bright and clear, the focus is great and the finish seems tough and durable. I also have a Nikon P-223 which I really like and these two compare well with each other. I do believe the Leupold wins in clearness and optics quality, however the Nikon is an outstanding value with its bullet drop chart reticle and super positive turret clicks. Perhaps Leupold doesn't want to look trendy or take the coolness factor from their more expensive scopes, but I really think they should have done exposed turrets like Nikon did and ditch the caps that I have to keep track of now at the range. In conclusion, I'm pleased with this scope and its quality and that it's an Oregon made, USA job supporting scope. ... show more

  • Will never use anything but this scope ever again best scope on the market
Color: Duplex (174180)
After bore sighting this puppy. Went out to the range. Shot 3 times at 50 yards. Then another 3 at 100 yards. Made my few adjustments and was putting quarter size groups right where I wanted at a 100 yards with a 30-30 336cw Marlin. On top that was 17° out that morning and I could not get the lenses to fog up to where they were useable and I tried lol... extremely crisp view. Also extremely well on dark cloudy days and low lighting. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great scope that gets the job done every time for a reasonable price. Especially with the warranty that comes with it ... show more

  • Clear glass!
Color: Tri-MOA CDS (180603)
Love the clarity and consistency for the money. Took no time to set up, wish it came with some sort of cap for the lenses, even something cheap. When I buy a $100 camera lens it comes with a plastic cap, not sure why scopes don’t, but that won’t keep me from buying more leupold stuff in the future, just an idea that should be implemented by scope companies, as it’s standard for most optics ... show more

  • Great value, clear glass
Color: Duplex (174180)
Before I even mounted it, I was looking through it ten minutes after legal hunting hours would have ended if it were deer season and came to the conclusion that this glass is more than clear enough to comfortably make lowlight shots with confidence. Adjustment dials are mushy but this has been mounted and sighted in 3" high at 100 yds where it will stay so I cannot comment on how well it tracks but the mushy turrets don't bother me. Magnification dial is smooth and the scope overall seems well worth the $169 plus tax that I paid but time will tell. ... show more

  • Probably the best hunting specific scope in its price range.
Color: Duplex (174180)
Very nice entry level hunting scope…what it lacks in features in comparison to competing optics, it makes up for in optical quality, and it allowed me to take my first deer(7pt buck) about 15minutes before sunset with ease…don’t buy this if you want a target scope with zero stops, locking/drop turrets, and fancy reticles…Iv tried quite a few scopes since buying this, and the only one Iv used in the low/mid tier price range that has better glass is my vortex viper pst scope, which is more then 2x the price, but has much nicer glass and a better eye box, along with more features, and an illuminated optic. If you want a target scope buy a target scope and you get what you pay for in that regard. But for something capable of reliable getting on target with deer sized game, the vx freedom is a very good value, and probably my recommended scope in its price range for its intended purpose. ... show more

  • Leupold quality at an affordable price
Color: Duplex (174180)
This is a comparitivly inexpensive scope but like all the other Leupold products I own, it is excellent. The glass is crystal clear, no edge distortions or color aberrations. It seems to "gather" light&is often easier to see things than with my unaided eye. I mounted this scope to a high quality .22 rifle. With this scope, that rifle is a joy to shoot. I use CCI shells exclusively. The rifle&scope will shoot a quarter dollar size group at 150 yards all day long. I think you will be happy with this scope ... show more

  • Expensive but clear
Color: Tri-MOA CDS (180603)
Definitely more expensive than a typical beginner scope but you definitely get clarity and if you were hunting and need that last bit of light at the last part of the day or in the very early morning, these are worth the money. Buy cheap by twice.

  • It works
Color: Duplex (174180)
I first tried the freedom line last year. Looking through them in low light made me chuckle and shake my head that we spend so much money on high dollar equipment that can’t beat something like this. I’ve replaced this spring all of my VX-2’s, FXII’s, and VX3’s with Freedoms and VX3i’s...Its that much of a difference. I would equate the freedom line in low light about on par with the VX3i’s. I also use these freedoms on 444’s so they have taken a pounding. I hunt almost year around, I do not maintain my equipment, and I’m hard on the rifles. ... show more
