  • I own 6 leupold HD models. These are Junk. Bought 2. They don't focus through magnification.
Style: Duplex CDS (180600)
No parallax and no focus. VX3HD focuses through magnification fine, but these are like plastic lensed childrens toys. Not clear, and limited focus. Sad. Thought these "freedom" Leupolds would work. I have 3-18VX6hd; 3-15VX5hd; Mark3hd 8-20 and 3-10VX3hd in multiple variations so thought, "why not a couple freedoms for the .22's?" BAD IDEA. These won't focus at more than 4x at 25yds, then you must hunt for the proper magnification to get a somewhat blurred, refracted light focus beyond. Have 3 and compared all. These are junk if you have any experience with functioning scopes, you will be severely disappointed and frustrated. Even my garbage burris that came free with a remington 596 .22 runs circles around this junk. In fact, switched back to the dumpy burris while I shop other scopes. Embarrassing to think this is American made. I'll believe it when I see the factory manufacturing. Chinese cheepo vortex scopes comparatively humiliate this "freedom" paperweight. Recommend you compare some scopes before believing the reviews here. I'm seeing these rated at 4.8 stars but that's absolutely ridiculous. The only think "good" about the freedom is the outside finish. That's it. Also, the height adjustment does not have a cap and can be accidentally moved so you constantly must keep an eye on it. No Cap, no lock. What are you thinking Leupold? Also sad, the Leupold costco binos. This company is in a death-dive. For the foreseeable future, my business and referrals go to Vortex and Nightforce. To reiterate, you could not "give" me one of these free of charge. I would decline. It's a child's toy. In fact, I have a moral dilemma giving these "vx freedoms" away as they might damage a childs vision. ... show more

  • Will not hold zero
Style: Tri-MOA CDS (180601)
On the surface a great scope from the standpoint of build quality, lens clarity, durability, and the tri-moa reticle is awesome. I had this thing on a 300 win mag and it was rock solid after multiple rounds, only issue was that the CDS widage adjustment / zeroing knob was fragile and did not have a protective cover. While on a Kentucky elk hunt I happened to notice the the CDS adjustment knob was no longer on zero having been knocked off sometime during the hunt and I had no way of knowing which way it had moved. We had to leave the hunt, go back down the mountain and after taking my best guess fired the gun twice to confirm my adjustment was correct. This knob movement happened one more time that day and I had to take the knob clear to it adjustment limit which was problematic since the adjusment knob was so fragile. I contacted Leupold's Customer Service asking for a lockable adjustment knob which i discovered on some of their other products. CS said the 4x12x40 does not have a locking feature but i could order a custom dial with a ball bearing which stops it at the zero position, and allows one rotation of adjustment. In this way, no matter how the dial gets bumped, you can always dial it exactly back to your zero." If the folks at Leupold hunted they would know in hunting you often only have a moment and no opportunity to call a time out to see if your scope is still zeroed. For this reason I would disqualify this scope as trustworthy on a hunt and am disappointed in Leupold's response. Knowing what I know now I would not have bought the scope. ... show more
