The VX-5HD has outstanding glass, clarity, eye relief, and brightens up the early and late shooting opportunities.. I have been using the standard reticle scope on a 7mm-08 for 2 years and have been very impressed with the performance. Gained 20 mins of confidence in the morning and afternoon and have taken multiple deer at 70-100 yards with the scope on the 2-4 setting. Most of my shooting opportunities are between 50 and 150 yards, so I haven't used the CDS. Adding the second 2-10 scope with the FireDot to my 270 WSM and I will order the CDS dial for my preferred hunting load. Great performance, American made, and a lifetime warranty. This scope is phenomenal. Delivery was terrible. I watched the post office delivery person drop it off on my neighbors porch on a Sunday afternoon. I was waiting on it as it required an adult signature. I went to the house(located one-third of a mile from my home) observed my name on the box and knocked on the door to contact the resident. Works as described. I tend to buy Leupold scopes as they are always clear hold a zero during magnification changes. I returned a different scope cause the magnification ring was very hard to rotate. They made it slightly better. All my Leupolds have tight mag rings. They are particularly clear at dusk when I tend to take most of my deer. ... show more

I hunt everything from close range hogs in Texas to long range elk in Idaho with this scope. It is incredibly clear, fantastic in low-light conditions, and at night with lights at considerable distances. I am about to buy a second vx5hd for another rifle. This 2-10x42 has been wonderful and I would recommend it to any hunter without hesitation. What attracted me to it is the simplicity, versatility and quality Leupold puts into this line of scopes. This rifle scope is excellent! I read the reviews about the clarity of the glass and I must agree. It is a premium scope. And performance is excellent too. I placed this scope on a Tika .308 ultra light rifle and the guns cuts holes every time.

I've tried Nikon, Vortex, Vanguard and now this. This is by far the best scope I've ever owned. In photography, my favorite lense that's always on my camera is the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM 2. For shooting and hunting from dawn to dusk, my favorite scope is this one. If I can afford 3 more, life would be perfect, but I can't. So I compromise with cheaper scopes on other rifles. Nothing comes close from all I own. Nothing. I was able to get a late dusk kill on a squirrel at 7pm in Midwest hours because of this scope on my latest outing. My eyes could not make out, but like a TV set that has its brightness dialed up while looking through it, this scope came through for me. The red dot is nice but I don't use often. ... show more

Positives: Good glass Negatives: poor quality control- internal debris , poor service from seller, gritty feeling zoom ring after operating in dusty conditions Wanted to buy American and spent a premium to do it. Mounted the scope and sighted in the rifle. It was a windy dusty day. The zoom ring now feels a bit gritty. Not a big deal but makes me wonder about long term durability. My biggest complaint: When I looked through the scope at the lowest magnification, there was a huge piece of internal debris visible in the retical. Seller wouldn't accept return even though it was 30 days from when I received it. Will send it back to Leupold for repair. Now I have an errand to do and a bill for shipping it to them... Maybe their reputation for service will save them but this will be my last Leupold product. ... show more
