This scope fits perfectly on a Marlin 1895 SBL with medium rings after removing rear ghost ring. Clear, bright, and perfect magnification for 45-70, 0–150 yds. The weight and overall size does not throw off the balance, just great all around.

Leopold has always done me and my family well. We’ve received high quality products every time. In a world of red dots I had a hard time picking out a scope with a nice cross hair option. I figured I would be buying and testing multiple scope before I was really satisfied, but this was one and done. I appreciate that I can turn off the illuminated reticles and view through traditional cross hairs. My dad is a career Marine and crosshairs is how I was taught to shoot; it’s where I feel most comfortable. My husband turns the illumination on when he shoots it, so we get the best of both world. Zeroed this Leupold VX-3HD twice in two days, and the crosshairs showed major shift within 24 hours each time. It simply will not hold zero. A scope is worthless if it can’t maintain accuracy, and this one failed that basic job. Extremely disappointed and frustrated—expected far better from a scope in this price range. ... show more

On my main platform (16" ar), I've messed with red dots, a 3x micro prism, 1-6x lpvos, and a Trijicon accupoint. All great but I wasn't fully satisfied with any. So it all culminated with trying this Leupold. This is my favorite by far. It best meets everything I'm looking for. I put this on my 45-70 and is perfect. Eye relief is far enough that with the recoil of the 45-70, I don’t have to worry about the scope hitting me. Even at the highest magnification there is plenty of eye relief. It has held up to the recoil but time will tell over the long run.

Keeps the weight down while having a low power optic. I sold this but should have kept it. The light goes away pretty fast when it starts to get dark but during good light, the quality is as good as it gets for this power and price range.
