  • Perfect for Little Hands
Edition: Brine Reactor Solar Set
These blocks are wonderful for building the imagination of inquisitive young minds. The block are a perfect size for little hands to put together. They lock together easily via the magnets. Since the blocks have magnets, they snap together well and without the frustration that younger builders experience with other types of blocks. The magnets make the blocks great for clean up also. You can simply stick them together into a large block and keep them together to avoid loosing them. I do wish the blocks came with a carrying case to store them in and make travel easy. I think these would be a wonderful quiet toy to take to restaurants or friends houses to entertain young children if they had a carrier. Great educational toy for children. ... show more

  • Fun for kids with parental help
Edition: Brine Reactor Solar Set
It makes sense that this set is for 8+ years. It requires some strength and dexterity to use the clear snap hinges. Once you get the hang of it, it’s really fun for the kids to design their own vehicles. Your kids will definitely need some parental help. Pros -it’s great for a family to get together and build together -lots of creative open-ended options of vehicle shapes -shapes are sturdy and light Cons -pieces can be difficult to snap together with the hinges which could be frustrating for little ones ... show more

  • Awesome Stem Toy!
Edition: Brine Reactor Solar Set
This is a great stem toy. The pieces snap together and the kids love it! It provided a couple of hours of entertaining. This requires some adult supervision but it is a great opportunity to explore science with your child. He was immediately taken with the toy, building different shapes and trying out the various forms of power. He thought the brine reactor was "really cool" because it was a chemical reaction that made the car go. Loved that it includes all this cool parts that attach to each other with magnets. ... show more

  • Hours of fun, not sure how long the item will last.
Edition: Brine Reactor Solar Set
My kids (7 1/2 and 10) have had a lot of fun putting this together, but my 13 year old finds it too basic. It's a lot like the magnetic colored shapes that they've played with before, but it requires them to snap them together with little plastic snaps. This was more challenging for my 7 1/2 year old, but the toy is rated for 8+ so I'm not surprised. The instructions are more visual and not exactly the plainest (especially for the power supply parts), and I'm really not sure how long the wheels are going to last. They seem more flimsy than the colored pieces are and how kids push down on cars when they're playing with them makes me wonder how much they'll take. Power supplies: Problem with all the power supply setups. No way to stop the car once you have the energy set up. Regular battery setup. The battery set up works very well. My only problem is that if you have the batteries in their slots, they are running. There is no stopping at all so a child will just leave them in after playing and that may result in the battery just running down. No batteries are included for that set up. The set up is also pretty loosey goosey and slides all over the place. Solar setup. The solar panel needs its own dedicated plastic piece to sit on. There are some sticky things that I think are supposed to be used to keep it on the piece, but the instructions don't say anything about that or include in the list of pieces (or say what the plastic piece is called). Solar setup works but has to be at a certain angle to get the sun and won't work with the led lights we have. Brine Setup. The brine setup is supposed to last up to 15 minutes. There are two magnesium and carbon "batteries" in the set so I'm thinking that is going to be the booger to replace. I couldn't find anything when I did an Amazon search. The power was not strong enough to keep it moving further than a few inches. It just kept spinning its wheels, and it was built in one of the configurations in the instructions so I would expect it to work. It stopped well before 15 minutes with this power source. I'd say it lasted four minutes. You can see from the picture that it is already very corroded after the little bit of time. The takeaway. My kids are really enjoying this toy because of the building side of it, but I have reservations about how long the wheels are going to last, the power supply set up, and replacing some of the pieces. I can see that if there were replacement pieces for the brine setup, stronger wheels, maybe another platform piece for the power supplies so the solar would have its own, better instructions, and a more stable way of keeping the regular battery power setup from slipping all over the place, it would be a much better toy. As it is, I probably wouldn't buy it on my own because of the issues. ... show more

  • Nice STEM project for the holidays
Edition: Brine Reactor Solar Set
This is great for when you have those kiddos home for the winter break and need a challenge. Fairly easy to put together. Instructions could have been better especially if a child is putting it together with little help from an adult. Overall decent product and price point. I hope this review is helpful! ... show more
