Outstanding quality for the price.

Kit complete and well packaged. Maple top is nice although it had several spots where the glue (center seam and spots around the binding) prevented the stain from getting into the grain. The neck is incredible - very straight and fit perfectly into the body pocket. The nut is plastic but is cut well. Frets are good but needed very minor polishing and rounding of the ends. Hardware was good quality. Electronics come fully wired. Pickups are decent sounding real good at lower volume levels but feed back when played loud. Set up was simple and absolutely nothing was adjusted on the bridge for intonation. It plays as well as as an Epiphone LP and is balanced well and lighter. Two low points - the tuners are very poor and the instructions (scan a bar code) were not available for this model of guitar (I emailed the company for a set and never received a reply) but with a little research it all made sense. This is the kit if you’re thinking of doing a build. I will replace the the tuners and pickups and this will be a player in the rotation!

Poor quality control makes "cheap" into "crap"

I was prepared for a cheap kit. Had it just been a case of cheap fittings and pickups, as suggested by other users, I would have given it five stars. I had better pickups and fittings ready to go. What earns the one star is the fact that the veneer on the face was botched in such a way as I couldn't tell until the dye had gone down. Get the knockoff version that doesn't pretend it's not a Chinese kit and costs half as much. I avoided doing so just because I thought quality control would be at least half decent.

Great value kit!
Set name: DIY LP Hollow
CONS: -A lot of glue residue around the binding. -binding requires some trimming around the neck joint and f-holes -Would have been nice if the screw holes weren’t drilled for the tuners so other after market tuner patterns could be used. -The prewired harness is cheaply made and not properly grounded. I would recommend upgrading all the pots and use shielded 4 wire to run from pots to the switch. There is enough space for full-size CTS pots. The pickup switch included is good quality but I chose to upgrade to a Switchcraft. -Neck profile is very thin and may not be comfortable for larger hands. -The neck joints fits really nice but the binding had some gaps in it where the two pieces meet. After a lot of sanding and filling I was able to get an acceptable joint in the binding. PROS: -Received quickly and was packaged well. -Body and neck are sanded well and binding is done very well. -The maple veneer top is thin but can be sanded lightly. Just be careful not to sand through the veneer. Nothing courser than 320 sandpaper should be used! -The veneer top stained very nicely. I used a light yellow water based dye and didn’t have any glue stains show through. -I also used a tinted wood grain filler on the neck and back to smooth it and make the grain pop out more. Then stain and I used Minwax Semigloss Poly in a spray can. -Upgraded the pickups and went with Grover tuners. -the fretboard is nice and smooth. Just needs a conditioner to seal it. I upgraded the nut also with a black TUSQ XL nut. Overall the frets are pretty level. There are a few high spots and will use my Stewmac fret-kisser tool to spot level the high spots. -The weight is super light and would be great for the gigging guitarist. Easy on the back. -With all the extra upgrades I have about $350 into the entire project.

Pay a bit more for a better kit

This kit isn’t terrible. But it’s not great. The build quality was pretty rough. A lot of glue stains around the binding and f holes. Wouldn’t be much of an issue if the glue wasn’t resting on top of the already thin veneer. The glue won’t take stain, so you have to sand it down to wood first and you don’t want to burn thru the veneer. Just takes a lot of patience. Neck was decent out of the box, frets are relatively level and not super sharp on the ends. Had to sand the walls of the neck pocket in order to get it to fit without using too much force, but that was expected. Also, another issue was the binding wasn’t flush with the body around the cutaway. Had to sand it down to get it flush. It’s almost like the body just slipped past QC. But, for the price? Not bad. I’ve seen much worse. My biggest takeaway, is I’ll probably spend a little extra cash on my next kit just for better build quality. Can’t speak to the hardware or electronics that came with it as I’m using all third party stuff, but the tuners and bridge that came with it feel cheap. Same with the pots but again, this was all expected. I just really wanted to put together a semi hollow lp and this kept popping up. 3 stars out of 5

Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024 by I bought this kit a while ago, just getting around to setting the neck after staining/finishing. For the price, it’s not a terrible kit. However, there are A LOT of glue stains around the binding on both the body and in/around the f holes. The maple veneer is obviously very thin, so I had to be very careful sanding back those glue stains that were sitting on top of it. The neck didn’t fit in the pocket so I had to sand the walls of the pocket to get it to fit without a lot of force. Back to the binding.. there were a lot of spots on the binding that didn’t align with the body. The binding actually stood 1-2mm higher in some spots, so I had to sand those down too. Again, had to be careful with the veneer. None of these issues will affect playability, but will require extra work if you get a kit like mine. It’s almost like it skipped the QC process before being shipped. The neck isn’t terrible, it was actually probably the best piece of the kit. Frets are relatively level, no super sharp fret ends. Still going to file them down. Nut seems OK. Not even going to bother with the hardware or electronics, the tuners and pots feel pretty cheap. Have a set of pickups I’m going to install instead of the ones that came with it, so can’t say anything about them. Once again, for the price, not a terrible kit but I’ll probably shell out a little more for a nicer one with better build quality in the future
Good guitar for the price

Overall this is a good guitar for the price. I don't like that they lined the cutouts with plastic. This detracts from the aesthetics of the guitar. Also, some of the components, like the tuners, are cheap, but what do you expect from an inexpensive guitar kit? I had to cut deeper notches into the bridge nut, but that is part of the basic setup. You just need to expect to have to do that when you buy the guitar. I also had to lower the bridge quite a bit to adjust the string height across the neck. Again, that is expected setup on a guitar. Now the guitar plays well and sounds pretty good.

Terrible customer service

My kit came without any directions, missing drill outs. So I hopped on Amazon to reach the company to see if they could help me out. Link on Amazon sends you to the manufacturers website. I write and email to let them know my problems and haven't heard a word back. I also purchased a stratocaster kit fr9m them. No complaints on that one just the hollow kit

Oversized pickup routing
Set name: DIY LP Hollow
This is my 3rd guitar from this vendor. Both worked fine with just minor things, but this last one had binding gaps which i can fix. The problem i ran into was the pickup cutout has such a large gap that the cover doesnt hide and is very noticeable at the neck. This is something i didnt notice until after finishing and past the return window.
