  • Excellent Value! Sounds great, plays great, no issues!
Color: Black Flame 5W
The media could not be loaded. Excellent starter guitar kit! As far as cheap guitars go, this had very little of the issues that you usually see in cheap guitars. When I set it up I lowered the action very slightly, and moved only 2 saddles to get the intonations right on. The fret ends were pretty smooth so I didn't have to do any fret work on the ends, but I did end up leveling 1-2 frets (they weren't too far off though they just needed some love). The tuners are just fine if you string it right, it stays in tune. It was wired properly humbuckers cancel noise as they should, no grounding issues. The nut was cut fairly well maybe 1 notch could be slightly wider but overall what a great guitar! It's right on par with anything out there in the $200-$300 range. This is going to be a fantastic Christmas present for my nephew. This is my second Leo Jayms guitar, I also got a purple telecaster that was equally awesome! ... show more

  • Excellent guitar at a great price
This is a beautiful guitar (green), and plays and sounds great. I had to lower the action and set the intonation, but otherwise this thing is excellent. Amp is good for the price, it's small, which I actually wanted for my space. Sounds fine, nothing special, and not a ton of adjustment. I don't believe that the bridge is a Wilkinson as others have mentioned. It looks like all of the other cheap ST style bridges out there. Frets felt wonderful when it arrived, but have started to sprout a bit in my dry climate, which is expected on any guitar. Tuner is ok, but I struggled with it when setting the intonation, and used a free app instead. I would buy this guitar again for sure. Very happy with it! ... show more

  • Surprisingly Impressive Starter Set – One Notable Issue
Color: Cherry Sunburst
I really wanted to dislike this kit. I read a few of the negative reviews and went in expecting the worst. A lot of people mentioned the “veneer” was just a sticker and complained about build quality, so let me set the record straight based on my experience. This is the SSH Strat-style full kit. When I first unboxed it, I was ready to roll my eyes. The top did look like a sticker at first glance—but after opening the back cavity, it’s clearly thicker than that. Handling the guitar was my first surprise: the neck feels good, the weight is balanced, and the overall construction is solid. I checked the neck—dead straight. Fret edges? Smooth enough. Hardware? Surprisingly decent for the price. After tuning (which was expectedly off from shipping), it held pitch well—even with brand-new, unstretched strings. And after a week of playing, I can comfortably say: it plays really well for what it is. All the gadgets included. quite nice and gets you moving in the right direction. even the guitar cord was higher quality than comes in the diy kits The few drawbacks: The nut is cheap plastic and cut rough; string height is good, but there's a little buzzing on the low E. Fixable with some fret clean up or just raise the saddle. The humbucker is not splitable, oh well. Most concerning there are cracks running length-wise from the end of the fretboard up through the 21 fret . It's not super noticeable, but it’s there. Bottom line: This is a surprisingly delightful starter guitar kit. If a complete beginner got it, they’d have a blast learning and might not notice the flaws right away. However, long-term, they may end up needing to replace the neck to fix those cracks. For this price; an intermediate guitarist that wants to invest a bit in a guitar, this can not be beaten. ... show more

  • Fantastic Looks, Smooth Playability
I have been playing guitar for 10+ years and wanted to add a Stratocaster with a tremolo to the arsenal. I previously sold my Mexican Strat with Texas Special pickups and some other mid-level guitars to buy a high-end Telecaster and a professional-level Guild acoustic. With little left in the guitar budget, I took a chance on the Leo Jaymz ST and am so glad I did. The guitar arrived double-boxed and inside a very cheap gig bag that might be used as a trash can liner--well, it's a little better than a Hefty bag with a handle and zipper, but not much. As a consequence, the reveal was the more dramatic: out of that flimsy black sack slipped a virtually flawless objet d'art with Old Glory emblazoned on the body. This guitar looks fantastic. There were just a few minor finishing details that went wrong: the black paint on the face of the headstock is a tad uneven at one edge where the natural maple meets it. The pickup cutouts are slightly rough in some areas, but these details are hardly noticeable and do not affect playability or sound. The ST came set up perfectly well to my liking--medium to low action, and there is not a fret buzz to be found anywhere. Intonation is perfect. The neck is smooth, the frets are filed nicely, and all the switches and electronics perform well. The pickups are not super high output, but they sound good. I got some nice jazzy tones on my tube amp by selecting the neck pickup and turning down the tone control. The humbuckers in the bridge were great for some overdriven AC/DC riffs. The combinations in-between aren't bad, either. It comes strung with very light strings "for beginners," the company advertises. Indeed this is one thing I will change, adding .10 gauge or higher, and this will undoubtedly improve what is pretty fair tone as it is. I like this guitar for a beginner because it is easy to fret notes and sounds at least as good as Mexican Strat. Experienced guitarists on a budget can't go wrong, either. Would I rather have a made in America Fender Strat--of course, I would! But the days of paying $800-$1000 for a MIM Strat are over for me, since I can get this quality from Leo Jaymz for around $170, including tax and shipping. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT BUY!
Color: Blue Flame 5W
For a less expensive guitar, this one plays just as well as my more expensive guitars! Had a friend file and polish the frets. The neck feels great! Pickups are very nice and sounds great with my amplitude system. Very lightweight and the color is beautiful!
