Good book to provide some context on AD and Powershell however that is really where it ends. There were syntax errors and also noticed that the author did not really provide a template to create a lab environment for. Would be nice in the next update to perhaps include some guidance on the set ups so users can save time. You learn more about powershell than you do AD with this one. ... show more

  • PowerShell script examples are full of syntax errors!!!
I'm exactly the audience the author states this book is geared towards. I am an IT Professional who has found himself responsible for (helping) administrate a Windows Active Directory. I am currently a PM but about 10 years ago I was a programmer, mostly on the web, specifically Java. So I consider myself relatively technical. With that said, I strongly criticize Mr. Siddaway and his editor for doing a VERY POOR JOB for testing if the provided scripts actually work. I am talking about scripts he includes in the "Try It Now" and "Lab" sections of every chapter (I am only in Chp 7). He consistently miss colons, adds extra spaces and/or uses variables (unsure if that is the actual term in AD) that cause script errors. This is very frustrating for a person who doesn't know anything about Powershell and assumes the scripts provided in a book are actually usable and not simply psuedo-code. I have wasted hours trying to get scripts to work. At this point I am unsure if I should simply ditch this book and find a better guide OR continue but skip the sections that discuss PowerShell. Which is 25-30% of every chapter so far. ... show more
