  • I was in love with it till today...
Okay so I have had this tablet for almost a year now and feel I can put up a pretty good review. We got this for our son last December when he turned 2. He wasn't super into it at first, but over the next few months he got to really liking it. It is SUPER kid friendly! My son can navigate the thing like a champ! Bumper is amazing! He has thrown it a few times and there isn't a thing wrong with it. The free apps that came with the tablet aren't too bad! It took my son a while to catch on and some are still out of his age range, but they are pretty good. I love the interactive background and so does my boy. The parental controls are pretty awesome allowing you to set a window of time when they are allowed to play. If they try to use the tablet outside of the time frame it won't let them. You can also set time restrictions on various apps. You can also control which apps they do or don't have access to. You can limit the internet A LOT. So the parental control features on this are great. The charge also lasts A WHILE! It usually can go for about... 6 hours. That's pretty good if you ask me. YOU CAN NOT DOWNLOAD THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE! However you CAN download the Amazon App Store. It's a bummer because you can't download Youtube Kids and there are other apps as well. HOWEVER you can still get a good variety of kids apps (my son is addicted to Bimi Boo games) and you still have access to various video apps including Netflix. Just don't expect there to be the variety that there is in Google Play. It's not there. Amazon App Store has a ridiculously small amount of apps comparitavley. The whole reason we got this was so that my son could have an AAC app since he is non verbal. While Google Play has several free AAC apps. Amazon App Store only has one (LetMeTalk if you were wondering) Overall this is a great tablet! My son loves it and I generally love it. Now here are the cons..... -One is that any video app that would usually let you download videos... won't let you. Unless it is Amazon Prime. That one is the only one that does. -The tablet may last forever... but it also takes AGES to charge. You will have to charge it for a few hours for it to be full battery. -You can not recategorize your kids apps in the parental settings. So if you go to set a time restriction on say "Apps for Fun" and want to set it for 2 hours a day. It will do that.... but only for your Leap Frog apps. If you download ANY apps from the Amazon app store they are immediately sorted into "Other" So you will have a big group of various kind of apps that all have to have the same time setting, but then once that time is up your kid can just start playing other apps that are by Leap Frog -While we are on the Leap Frog apps. They have VERY few apps that are good for children 3 or younger in their store. They also cost an arm and a leg with most apps costing over $10!!!! You can help yourself out a bit by buy a giftcard on Amazon where you can get a $20 card for like $11, but it is still ridiculous how much this costs! -The volume is RIDICULOUS! It works fine on most apps, but I had to download a volume booster app because if you play Amazon Prime or Netflix the volume is so low you can barely here it. -About two or three months ago we started having issues where the tablet started freezing. It's easy enough to push the power button to make the screen go to sleep then push it again. But this is a big enough issue that happens enough that my 3 year old knows what to do when his tablet freezes. It's also an incredibly unpleasant thing to have to actually restart it and my son lose his mind because he thinks I'm taking it away because I restarted it. -The Acadamy app wasn't bad.... but it's not for younger kids. You also can't cancel your trial. I wish I could have tried it for a hot second, realized it wouldn't work for my kid yet, and then started the trial later. I think my kid might like it now. I don't want to start up an account again and then have to pay for a month to find out it is still out of my kids age range. -Lastly the MAJOR con for me.... is that while there is an SD card slot you CAN NOT download things onto it via the tablet. You also can't transfer files. So any apps you download HAVE to be on internal storage. Anything you download HAS to be on internal storage. So while you CAN download your Amazon Prime movies to the tablet for offline viewing. It will take up internal storage. If you want to put movies on the tablet and not take up internal space. You are going to have to plug the SD card into your computer and drag and drop movies onto the card and then put it back into the tablet. Add in that Amazon Prime, Vudu, and Movies Anywhere do not allow you to download directly to your computer. This means that you have to rip any DVD you have and then put it on the SD card in order to put movies on your kids tablet WITHOUT using internal storage. Now that last one is why I have given it a 3 star rating. This is something I only realized today and it becomes really aggravating because my son watches movies on long trips, when we are at the store, or when I know we are going to be running errands a while. He usually watches movies, but he have the selection of all his favorites because there is no room on all his internal storage. I also can't transfer any pictures he took to the SD card that he took prior to me putting in the SD card recently. So I will just never be able to keep those pictures. It is pretty stupid to me that there is an SD card slot, but you pretty much can't use the card for anything people usually use it for. ... show more

  • Not suited for outside the US but good device overall
I purchased this for my daughter when she was around 4yrs old (now 7). I made my decision on this because it showed that we would have access to the Leapfrog Academy. However, they did not stipulate that if you are not in the US this wouldn't be available, or state which countries it was available for. Needless to say, living i. Barbados we had no access. I call Amazon customer service for a partial refund which I got. Then when purchasing the games based on the age I realised that our education system here must be advanced because the games suggested for my child's age was stuff she covered more than a year prior in school so I had to bug games for the age group a year or two ahead of her. The device is now useless even though it should last her until she is 8 as there are no more new games that will challenge her. In addition to all of that, about a year ago we were unable to purchase anything, not sure why but the purchase would appear to have gone through but when I go back to the cart the items are still showing and my card was never charged. I would say the device itself works great as it has taken a beating over the years from my child and it held its own. The restock resistant case it remarkable. We never took off the film from the screen so that is well scratched up but the screen itself is still perfect. The touch screen works well even to this day, sound is great, it's interactive and generally a good device. I love that it has parental control that you can set the amount of time the child spends on every type of activity. One drawback is that if it is left on overnight it counts that time as time on the device therefore when the child goes to use it next day you have to put in your parent password. By the way, the battery life on this thing is amazing. It would stay on for almost two weeks without activity. ... show more

  • Great Product
This is a wonderful product that can teach kids so much about general knowledge as well as how to work a tablet and adapt to the new style of learning through technology. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because after time like all other devices, its battery depletes and doesn't hold a charge as long. One other thing that bothered me was how expensive buying anything in its app store is. Everything on there seems to be rather pricey, but, can you really put a price on your childs education... You do have the ability to download a third party app store (google playstore) and download the not so educational apps, which I have done so that Netflix could be added. With that being said, the parental controls are great and allow the child to only access what you want them to access. In conclusion, I would by this time after time as it really is a great product for kids. (It's actually the second one we've bought) ... show more
