This arrived packaged well enough. It included the necessary tools (Allen key + flat wrench) to assemble it, which only took a couple easy minutes. It also comes with a small tool to help clean debris from the bottom of the bucket and inside the cutting tubes. There are small black plastic covers to go over the nuts to make them look a little nicer, but they don't stay in place long, so I wouldn't even bother trying to put them on. It doesn't bother me at all to see the tool without them; it looks just fine. I haven't used this kind of tool before, so at first I was having a somewhat difficult time, but after a while I got the hang of it. I found it best to step down and plunge the tool about 75% of the way into the ground, give a little twist back and forth, and then pull up. After getting the technique down a bit I didn't have to clean the tool as much while using it, and started to cover more ground much more quickly. So far I've used this on a couple fairly large patches of ground, and I see no sign of issue. I've been a bit rough on it, and the parts have not loosened in any way. The handles are pretty comfortable to hold on to, and they haven't shown signs of damage. All in all, everything seems to be just fine and as advertised with this tool.

This manual yard plug aerator has made my gardening experience so much more convenient and efficient. The catch bucket for collecting soil cores is a game-changer, as it saves me the hassle of manually collecting the soil cores. The build quality is excellent, and the tool is easy to use.

This is a unique tool that can create small holes in dirt in order to break up the soil and allow air to permeate deep into plant root systems. The tool contains three hollow, sharp prongs that easily sink into dirt and not only create small holes, but create and store small plugs of tightly compressed soil. We have also been able to use these holes to plant seedlings and even seeds that call for deep planting depth. The tool is solid metal and more than strong enough to sink into even dry, rocky dirt. It contains a relatively short handle, but maximizes power when you use 1 foot stepping on the bottom and your hand at your side pushing down. The tool will be well used at the beginning of the season, and perhaps again at the end. It does a specific job, but it is one that is very beneficial in preparing soil for planting. You can create full holes themselves, or you can use this to break up the dirt generally at a decent depth. I have also experimented with collecting the soil cores, which are sturdy and compressed, and trying to use them to start seeds. This is a very unique but beneficial and useful garden tool. I didn't know I needed it until I started using it to tear up the garden at the end of winter. Well made, sturdy, and excellent!

Once unpacked, all tools to assemble this were included including spare bolt, nut, and rubber nut cover. During the install process, I found the bolt length to be a bit short. I had to really squeeze the parts together in order for the nut to catch the threads on the bolt. Once assembled, tool felt solid with no flex. Tested in the S. FL soil. Went through soil with ease and plugs came out with ease with the plug punch tool if debris got stuck. Overall, not a bad tool to have for your lawn.

This is a wonderful aerator with super sharp pokers to sear through the ground with ease. It eeasily assembled and is taller than other aerators, which is nice for not needing to bend forward as much. Two things I will note: (1) the instructions are not as great as they could be - they are pictures with no words; and (2) sometimes when pressing it down with my foot on the bar, my shoe can scrape the catch bin if at a certain angle. But this is a great aerator and does its job well.

In fact, you need to be prepared for a semi-difficult assembly because the fitment is designed to compress the shafts by tightening to hold firmly without leaving excessively long bolts sticking out. I'm 6'5" and 300 lbs....this thing doesn't flex a bit. This is far and above the solid spike aerator I had from the big box store. Why not 5 stars? Well, a) the instructions don't give much info about assembly. At first it may seem that the bolts are too short and the nuts won't catch. Here's the trick. Put all the bolts through and start putting the nut on that is nearest the handle. Tighten it to help you put on the next. You will still need to squeeze the assembly together to get each nut on the succeeding bolts. Tighten each bolt as much as possible starting with the bolt nearest the handle. The rigidity of this tool is surprising when assembled this way. The other reason for only 4 stars is b) There are plastic caps to cover the nuts, preventing scrapes on you or your clothing. Great but they are cheap plastic and didn't stay on for 10 minutes use. They should either redesign or supply some silicon adhesive to secure them. Aside from these minor knocks, this is the nicest tool of its kind. Very happy overall. My ratings system: 5 stars...... I'm blown away by quality & value... a must buy! (I rarely give this) 4 stars..... Pleasantly surprised, better than expected 3 stars..... as advertised, got what I expected, any pros/cons balanced 2 stars..... a little disappointed, I had hoped for better 1 star ..... avoid, waste of time and money, junk (I rarely give this)

I've tried other aerators. This one actually cut dirt plugs! The catch tray is not a critical function, most commercial aerators just drop the plugs. They used two sizes on the tines, which allow the dirt to slide out the top. The handle is strong and sturdy. The only improvement I would make is spreading the tines father apart. They're only a couple inches apart but might make using this over a big area easier if they were not so close. I will certainly be using this on my yard this spring!
