What a unique craft! What a great gift idea for the crafter that has (nearly) everything or jewelry maker. Fusing smaller cut glass pieces together to create unique earrings, pendants, rings, sun catchers and more. The measurements as show on the product description photos are correct. The set comes with 10 sheets of ceramic paper. the instructions and the microwave kiln. I highly recommend wearing gloves when working with the ceramic paper and the kiln itself. It may just be me. I felt that the ceramic paper sort of bit into my fingers like fiberglass insulation does. I'm not willing to test that part again. So, gloves will be worn. Also, you are cleaning your glass pieces and then placing them on the kiln with ceramic paper between the kiln and the glass. In order to prevent fingerprints on the glass it is best to wear gloves. The kiln itself is a bit chalky. So, wearing gloves will protect your fingers. Here are the steps as the instructions tell us. 1) Microwave must have a power of at least 1000 watts for the best results. 2) clearn the glass parts and kiln tray. Allow to dry completely before using. 3) set ceramic paper on the kiln platform. The paper must be larger than your glass pieces. Using two layers of glass works great. 4) Place kiln tray into the microwave then cover with the kiln lid. Set temp on HIGH. Heat kiln continuously for 6-8 mins. 5) you will see the top of the kiln glow orange when the kiln is at the fusing temperature. 6) wearing insulated gloves remove the kiln to the kiln shelf for cooling. Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes. 7) Ideal heating times vary from microwave to microwave, kiln to kiln & object in the kiln. So, times may vary from project to project. It typically takes 6-16 minutes for fused glass. 8) Use a diamond hand file or grinding tool to grind off the edge of the fused glass. Use glue to paste the pendant or earing bail to the back of the fused glass. I recommend keeping the box and foam to use for storing the kiln. #6 refers to a kiln shelf. That seems to be the metal trivet that they have used to place the kiln on while it cools. I feel that a regular cookie cooling rack or trivet will work. But, once you use the microwave or cookie rack - do not use them for anything else. The kiln itself is light weight. A price point of under $30 is reasonable and affordable.
