  • Very nice boots
My boots came in, and my excitement was immediately ruined upon opening the box. The left shoe had scuff marks on the toe, and the stitching running down the side looked like it was about to pop. I am aware leather boots will accrue scuffs, but I want to be personally responsible for each scuff. The stitching is what really bothers me. Either the boots were horribly made, severely mis-handled, or somebody else had worn them for a while before they were shipped to me. I ordered a replacement pair, so I'll re-visit this review in a couple days when they get here. I would have been nice to get a decent looking pair on the first go around, however. UPDATE: New boots came in today. Replacement was fast and hassle-free. The stitching looks good, no scuffs on the boots. I'll chalk my first order up in the "s*** happens" category. These are very nice looking, comfortable boots. Construction seems solid. Could make a decent work boot in another color but I will say the Copper Kettle seems pretty susceptible to scuffs. That doesn't really bother me because a certain amount of scuffing from frequent wear gives boots character, but if you are going to be doing serious work in these boots I would probably opt for tan. They fit true to size for me, but I have a fairly narrow foot and I could see the width being a problem for some. Overall I am very happy with my purchase, and pleased that my initial problem with the purchase was resolved quickly and painlessly. ... show more

  • Good fit, good value
The boots appear to be good quality and are comfortable. It's difficult to get boots in a store that are wide width, so these were a good find and good value. The only thing that good be better is that the "shaft" (the upper part) could be a little bigger. It's not uncomfortable, but it could be slightly larger. ... show more

  • Fantastic boots
Size: 11.5 X-Wide Color: Black
I can't speak to durability in the long term, but I will say that they feel great on my feet and look sharp. They're not flashy -- you're not going to stand out in a crowd -- and the soles aren't leather, so they won't exactly work with your favorite suit. But with a pair of jeans, these boots look great. They're more comfortable than my old boots, which had leather soles and were made of watersnake skin, and while they aren't as distinctive-looking, they're still very nice. Honestly, I'd wear these boots with anything short of a suit -- so sport coat and slacks? Yep. They're really very nice and understated without being drab. They shine up really well and fit pretty true-to-size. I actually went half a size down from my usual size but got the extra-wide. I probably could have gone with a half size up, but they're still a great fit and comfortable as all get-out. Now I just need to re-learn how to walk in heeled boots... Oh, and one more thing -- these are really great for driving, because the heel is beveled inward, so you can rest your heel on the floor mat while you drive. I think it's a great touch. ... show more

  • They look and feel like the Old West!
This is an excellent product. The leather is exquisite and they fit perfectly. They look even better than the picture shows, the sole is strong hard-rubber, which prevent slipping quite a bit. I think even if you don't usually enjoy wearing boots, these may change your mind. The only thing I may see as a drawback to them, though it doesn't bother me at all, is that I wasn't expecting the heel to be so high, they are not uncomfortably high, but high enough to see and feel the difference, so when I put them on I feel even taller than I already am. They look so good that I may end up using them as my formal wear shoes. ... show more

  • Have Never Seen This Before
I've worn western ("cowboy") boots all my life. Getting them to fit right is an exercise in trial and error trying on boots until you find the pair that "FITS". Once you find that pair, with a little care and maintenance you can get a pair to last forever. I've had pairs that have been resoled three or four times over fifteen years. Now, unless you get into the really expensive boots (I've always had problems explaining why you need a pair of boots made from eel or ostrich) there are some fairly standard construction techniques you'll encounter. As price decreases, the amount of leather decreases and is replaced by man-made materials. Good boots have leather soles and uppers (the part covering the foot and the part that wraps around the leg - also known as the shaft). Soles are sometimes manmade to avoid slipping and the upper sometimes has a leather shaft with the rest of the upper being made out of manmade materials. This pair was a mix of leather and man-made materials, so they weren't expensive. But they were the weirdest combination of materials I'd ever seen. The soles were manmade with slip-proof tread (OK). The part covering the foot was also manmade (they weren't expensive so I assumed you get what you pay for - but they did look a little "plastic"). But when I got to looking at the shaft things got really strange. The shafts are a mix of manmade and leather with the front half of the shaft composed of manmade materials and the back half of the shaft being leather. One - They didn't blend together very well. You could tell that they weren't made out of the same material. They just didn't look right. Two - Whatever they used as manmade materials pushed the limit of the definition of "leather-like". They looked cheap. Three - If this is Laredo's attempt to be able to truthfully advertising them as "a combination of leather and manmade materials" or "with a leather shaft"; then they've really pushed the limit. The other pairs of boots I ordered were full leather uppers and didn't cost that much more. I sent this pair back. ... show more
