I've owned this Zhonghu for over a month now. Once setup, this Zhonghu produces some very deep, sonorous and mellow tones that I am enjoying very much from its Ebony wood body. It allows me to express the more somber Chinese folk pieces that are of a lower register than the ones that I play with my Erhu. As for its construction, the base of the instrument feels very solid from its dense Ebony wood material and is covered with real Python skin as the membrane for the bridge to transfer the vibrations from the steel strings. There is, understandably, a Chinese stamp of the person or company that manufactures this Zhonghu as it definitely seems like a work of quality craftsmanship. The pegs seem to hold the strings very well as I rarely have to adjust the Zhonghu much to tune it even over a month's time and have a very nice decorative swirl pattern. After a good rosining and placing it between the two strings, the bow pulls the strings well and you can achieve decent speed with it. I also bought some additional bridges of different materials. I found it very important to test which bridge(s) allows you to get the exact tone you are looking for and for the piece you are playing. The brightness and how "damp" the sound of this Zhonghu can vary greatly depending on the bridge used. Overall, I am very happy with this Zhonghu and it really allows me to express the melancholy emotions that Chinese pieces written for the lower register Zhonghu due to its excellent construction and great materials. I would highly recommend this Zhonghu after owning and playing it for over a month. ... show more
