I really enjoyed the movie….and as a film buff, so enjoyed seeing two versions of it, with different endings. I was so excited that there was a French version with subtitles in English………Then, they remade the film in English with what ever subtitles you want. It was not the same film with dubbed English……but, a separate film in English. It was fun seeing little changes in their approach to each scene again. Fascinating!!! ... show more

This film is brilliantly and beautifully filmed, cast, written, acted and scored. Slow burn plot that is a great ride all the way. Romy and Alain smoulder and perform perfectly. I love this movie; current favorite. Soundtrack is also fantastic! I've watched it an obscene numbers of time it's so great! Take a dip in this swimming pool. Old French New Wave movie. Interesting, good acting. Delon, Ronet, Schneider & Birkin in their prime. Recently reimagined as "A Bigger Splash" with Ralph Fiennes & Tilda Swinton.

    • Fantastic Criterion Blu-Ray Release!
This is a fantastic Criterion release! The visual quality is so much better than the old DVD that was released in Lionsgate's Alain Delon Collection in the 2000s. That said, the new restoration isn't pristine—there is some grain. It's something I noticed but that was negligible to me because, overall, the improvement was so great. (Also, the subtitles look MUCH better than those in the old DVD.) The extras are interesting too! I love having the English version too, as the movie was completely refilmed for that, and there are differences in the acting and more. If you've seen La Piscine and like it, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with Criterion's release. If you haven't seen La Piscine and you don't mind a slow, atmospheric/psychological sort of build up in a film, then you may very well enjoy this. If you love watching an amazingly beautiful-looking man simply take up screentime, then you'll like too. lol. Alain Delon was beautiful, and can be mesmerizing. If you have doubt you'll like it, rent it first. ... show more

I remember watching Alain Delon movies when I was a teenager. And I came across this movie, and I had to buy it. This movie brings back so many memories. Out of all the old movies, this one has a picture-perfect quality, and it looks like it was made just couple of years ago. Some of the old movies just don't have the HD quality, but this one is great. The quality and the colors are absolutely perfect. It must've been re-digitalized. If you like Alain Delon movies, this is a must. Great to watch it with old friends. ... show more

    • Ultra Chic and Deceptively Dark
Beautiful, tanned bodies, poolside sunbathing and drinks at a grand villa on the French Riviera, cool jazz, modern sculpture and a Maserati. Could all this end in a murder? A slowly developing elegant thriller filled with intense simmering emotions and eroticism to spare. Fashionable French film is a stylish exploration of jealousy, social status, success, privacy, and a fine example of the pleasure principle. Highly reminiscent of the murder mystery classics of Claude Chabrol of that era, especially Les Biches, and La Femme Infidele, with a touch of Michelangelo Antonioni. Very popular in it's day and highly influential to pop culture. This Criterion Collection Blu Ray restoration is excellent, and contains documentaries and interviews on the film, including one on it's overwhelming 1960's style. On top of all that this edition also contains both the French and English language versions of the film, as well as an alternate ending. ... show more

    • Once again, can't improve on original
Rating should be 4, or perhaps 3-1/2, stars but it is a sentimental favorite of mine from back when...back then, 1969, and it still gets the juices flowing. Saw it again to compare it to the current re-make and, as expected, overwhelmingly prefer this original. The heat between Delon and Schneider is felt, not just as authentic which it was of course, but as human, real. Then there is the external weight of the summer warmth, all of it still and waiting, as we do, for something to happen. Even when it does, it is low key on the screen, organic to the scene and the characters, very possible and real. Just love the subtlety of the original. Setting is lovely without being lush. The pool and its summer light is the focus but no need to glamorize what is already breathtaking. ... show more

    • Three times lucky......
This cult movie is so good it has been remade twice (The Swimming Pool in 2003 & A Bigger Splash in 2015) and all three movies are excellent in their own right. This picture quality of this Criterion Blu-ray is a big improvement over the French transfer I streamed from Prime several years ago. The extras are superb. Highly recommended. ... show more
