  • Perfectly Functioning KVM Supporting HDMI 2.1 Spec
Size: 2 IN 1 OUT Style: 8K@60Hz HDMI KVM
My use case for a KVM is perhaps atypical as I really only use it as a Keyboard & Mouse switch since I have multiple displays, each dedicated to a specific machine. I.E. I want the video signal on each display to remain active for its specific machine. This allows me to reference what is open on one machine while actively interfacing with another. The ability to function as a "KM" switch with no video input sources or display output present, is surprisingly not something that shows up in product descriptions. Well I'm happy to report that if your use case is similar to mine then the AOOCOO KVM Switch HDMI 2 Port Box does indeed support such functionality. Moreover, my keyboard properly sleeps and wakes -- the backlighting turns off as expected -- and has no problem waking my machines from either S3 or S4 sleep states. I did test video switching functionality of course, and I had no issues with up to a resolution of 3840x2160 (4K) at 120Hz refresh so no worries if you, like most, plan to use the full feature set. One other quirk of my setup is that I intended to connect one machine via USB 3.0 and the other via USB 2.0 - one of the machines is starved for 3.0 ports and I didn't want to resort to a hub between the machine and KVM. Thankfully this mix-match configuration works perfectly. So far we have a best case scenario for the AOOCOO KVM - everything works the way I had hoped with zero compromises. Moreover, the build quality feels premium, the versatility of having four USB input ports is extremely handy and the fact that power is drawn from the same two USB connections used for output to each machine is super tidy (many other similar devices use a third cable). Regarding power, I have a 75% (82-key) backlit mechanical keyboard and wireless 1000Hz poll-rate mouse connected and both function perfectly - no issues. My only disappointment, not specifically with the AOOCOO KVM Switch rather the majority of USB KVM switches, is the fact that hotkey switching is not supported. Gone are the days of DIN/PS2 when hotkey switching was just an expected function of any decent KVM. If this is a dealbreaker for you, know that USB KVM switches with hotkey support do exist - just be ready to either settle for HDMI 2.0 or pay a steep premium. Honestly, I'm not overly bothered by having to reach over to press the dedicated button when switching machines. The button itself has an extremely satisfying tactile "click" to it and so does the wired remote button, though to a lesser degree. Now just a little housekeeping before wrapping up. The package includes 2x 1.5-meter (5-foot) USB A-to-A cables for connecting your machines to the KVM and a 1.5-meter remote switch (with an adhesive pad) you can run to wherever is most convenient if the main switch is out of reach. The main unit is quite small -- about the same size as a 2.5" SSD/HDD -- and can be easily secured in place with a command strip, velcro or even double-sided tape. All-in-all the AOOCOO KVM Switch is an excellent product offered at a competitive price that I can comfortably give a strong recommendation. 5 out of 5. ... show more

  • Well Built KVM. Works For Secondary Monitors. Works with MacBook Pro.
Size: 2 IN 1 OUT HDMI Style: 4K@60Hz HDMI KVM
I received this item in September 2023. This is a very nice compact KVM. The enclosure is made of metal and all the parts of it appear solid and well built. A few reasons I chose this KVM were that is had a remote switch, optional 5V external power capability, and EDID simulation. The EDID simulation is important if you are planning to use a KVM to control a secondary monitor which is what I needed. If you don't have EDID simulation support in the KVM itself or via some kind of inline adapter that you connect to your monitor's video cable, then if you are using the KVM monitor as a secondary monitor every time you switch back to the computer using the monitor as its secondary monitor you will probably find your opened program windows rearranged. This is very annoying to have open program windows constantly being rearranged every time you switch away and then come back to the computer. I did not have this problem with this KVM and the EDID simulation worked well. My setup is a Windows 11 desktop computer using the KVM monitor as its sole display. My 2nd computer is an Apple MacBook Pro and I use the built-in display of the laptop and the KVM monitor is the laptop's secondary display. In this setup I am able to switch back and forth between the computers without any issues. I also do not notice any ghosting or any other indication of electrical interference coming from the KVM and the video is nice and clear from each computer. My open program windows are not rearranged as I switch back and forth between computers. I do have an RGB keyboard and when I switch between computers, the keyboard's lights turn off briefly as the KVM is switching to the other computer. When this happens I can see my RGB keyboard act like it is rebooting so it is definitely losing power briefly. I did try to use the optional external 5V power to try to fix this issue with my keyboard but that did not work. I think this is just a side effect of using a KVM and when it switches the USB ports from one computer to the other, there is a temporary loss of USB power when this happens. In my setup I am able to use the KVM without using the 5V external power option. The power from the USB cables and HDMI cables seems to provide enough power for the KVM. All the cables you would need are included. The only exception are the HDMI cables that would be coming from each computer you are using with the KVM. The remote switch the KVM comes with has the nice touch of a light on it indicating which computer the KVM is currently switched to. You would be able to look at this indicator with the room lights out and know if you are switched to computer 1 or 2. This KVM has cleaned up the mess of wires I had on my desk and made my life a little easier so I would definitely recommend it. The solid construction of it makes me think it will last a long time. ... show more
