For around $100 this is hard to beat. This is a clone of the last gen Joola Ben Johns Hyperion 8 oz paddle. It has a forged handle and foam injected edge guard but it is not a full thermoformed body. So it should be durable in terms of the handle not breaking but the issue with these paddles is that the grit on the CF face material is known to wear down in intensive use. The newer version on this paddle (the AMA model with the blue edge guard and grip) is fully thermoformed and has a new face material. Still, this paddle is a great value at the reduced price, if used by not so serious or not so frequent players who will not wear down the grit so fast... it plays like one of the best paddles on the market from a year ago at least while it is fairly fresh. Solid hitting with good feel and good spin and fairly nimble. UPDATE: Upon seeing my original review rating of 3 stars, the seller reached out and offered to send me a new paddle, which I just received. They sent it directly from China (presumably from the factory) and not from Amazon stock. I will play this paddle and hope the grit/CF surface will wear better, as I assume this is a late run unit with potential improved hitting surface. Given this excellent customer support and obvious caring about customer satisfaction, I am uprating the review to 4 stars. I see the paddle is now selling here for $89, for that price it is an excellent value, you will play with an exact clone of one of the best if not the very best paddles on the market from about a year ago.

My husband is an advanced player who plays 15-20 hours per week and I am a beginner who plays 4-8 hours per week. We both love this paddle and fight over it. He’s a good enough player that he will win with any paddle, but he gets great spin with this paddle. As a beginner, I find that I struggle to get the right balance of power and control. When I play with this paddle, I’m able to strike that balance much more easily. Excellent value. We will be ordering another.

First, using the self rating system, I'd consider myself to be a 3.5-4 player at this point, playing 1-2 time days a week for about 9mo. I started with an Onix Z5 which I felt was a much better paddle that the typical beginner/starter paddles. I got a lot of spin with it, plenty of power, but it lacked soft touch which is where I've struggled the most. I've had the pleasure of playing a game with the Joola Hyperion and immediately fell in love with it's feel but haven't been able to bring myself to spend that much for a paddle. It was clear though that I needed to move up to a 16mm paddle to get the feel I was looking for. When I stumbled upon the Kronos, I figured "what the heck, I can easily return it if it's a piece of crap". I've played 3 days with it now and am extremely pleased thus far! It's got loads of spin, even more than my Z5 which I didn't think would be possible! I don't feel like I've lost any power when I wanted compared to my Z5 but have definitely gained in much needed soft touch. The ball always just really popped off the Z5, whether that's what I wanted or not. With the Kronos, I get the power...but when I actually want it. As forgiving as I thought the Z5 was on mishits, the Kronos is soooo much better. If I mishit near the edge of the Z5, it would often twist in my hand and the ball would go nowhere. That's not the case at all with the Kronos. Sure, not all edge hits are getting back over the net but way more are and there's no turning in my hand at all. I've now noticed that the Z5 handle is actually not a fully symmetric octagon shape like the Kronos is. I can't say for sure if it's the handle difference, the more narrow head shape reducing torque of edge hits, or the foam that's supposedly in the edge of this paddle. I just know it feels much better. I've not had the luxury of playing the Kronos side by side with a Joola paddle but it certainly seems to play VERY similar. Has this paddle suddenly made me a pro? Of course not. I'm still learning the game, my reset skill is still lacking, but my play at the kitchen has definitely elevated. In my opinion, if you're looking to elevate your game without breaking the bank, you absolutely can't go wrong with this paddle! Update: The Kronos was added to the USA PB approved list on their website on 5/24/23.

This paddle is a huge step up from the other ones I have used. It hits hard and spins a lot. The grip size is perfect for me. I am able to generate good and spin with minimal effort. It plays as good as the $200+ paddles that I have tried. Only downside was that the paddle came with couple of minor scratches, guess that would have happened during shipping. It doesn't affect the play though. This one is a keeper.

Paddle has a good amount of power compared to my onyx. It also has a textured surface that will help you with controlling topspin and slices. It’s better than most paddles in the same price range.

This was a replacement for my third Hyperian. It is identical in shape and construction, very similar in looks (haha) and now has a carbon throat (if you end up getting new stock). Great paddle for the money. I'm a 4.0+ and have owned over a dozen paddles.

I upgraded to this paddle from an X3. My game took a big increase in wins after getting this paddle. If you play spin and control game then this is for you. It is not very powerful though. So if you are looking for power I would avoid this paddle. I have noticed after 3 months that the paddle has lost its pop though. It is still better than my X3, but many shots just don't come off the face of the paddle like they did when I got it. Overall for the price though its hard to beat.
