Description
Through a refining process, this linseed oil remains clear and won’t yellow. Its purer base blends smoothly with your pigments, preserving their original color. When mixed with pigments, linseed oil modifies or enhances the properties of oil paint, increasing gloss, improving flow, or adding texture. Adding linseed oil adjusts the viscosity of the oil paint, maintaining smooth brushstrokes, extending drying time, and enabling thin layers, fine details, and color layering to create a rich optical blending effect. This KOVIEDE linseed oil is a great basic medium for oil painters who want smoother flow and a little more richness in their paint. It mixes in easily and helps the paint move better across the surface of the canvas. It adds a nice bit of transparency and gloss, but also extends the drying time, which is useful for layering and blending. The refined formula feels well suited for regular studio use, especially if you like adjusting paint consistency without overcomplicating your setup. This is a decent sized bottle of linseed oil that I will be using For for my oil painting. It looks like another brand I purchase. So far, no complaints at all and will update my review when I have had a chance to use it for a while.

As far as I am concerned this is as good a refined oil as I have had. With oil painting, your materials matter, but you don't need to have top of the line or the most expensive brands, just good. I use very thick paint in my work and so it took me awhile to really appreciate the benefits of using oil, but it has definite benefits beyond washes, glazes, and making your paint thinner. For a thick paint style painter, it actually reduces drying time because you can achieve full coverage and a thicker look without as much paint. If you like a smooth or very blended look, you need oil. If you want to keep cracking (a problem for thicker painting styles) to a minimum, you need oil. This linseed is a refined thin, vs a thicker linseed or a cold pressed. This is the most common type and the best usually for beginners and intermediate painters because it's both affordable and easy to work with. Many professionals use it, too, just because they prefer it. This oil in particular works just fine. Linseed refined is better for darks as it can yellow a little with age and is already a bit yellow, but you likely won't notice it and aging in oils takes awhile. However, if you are planning a white painting meant to last a century, this wouldn't be your absolute best option. For the majority of artists, this oil should be perfectly good enough for almost all their oil needs, and I have no hesitations about using it in my own work as a professional artist.

This is a medium sized bottle of refined linseed oil that I got for oil painting. It was notable for the freshness of the oil and how smoothly it flowed. It is good quality and a good value for a fresh product that performs well. It comes in a sturdy bottle with a tapered top that will make it easy to pour. The cap closes securely. It is a generous quantity but not so much that you would have to worry about the oil getting thick before you can use it. Straight off, the oil has clarity and smells fresh and clean. It is light yellow and looks like it was well refined in the refining process. Linseed oil is known for its tough film-forming properties. That is why oil paintings have lasted hundreds of years. The problem is it is always trying to form that film even when sealed in a bottle. It is a drying oil and it isn't something like olive oil that stays wet forever. Some artist oils like walnut oil are in the middle and they stay wet a long time before forming a thin film. Every oil painter has had the bad experience of getting stuck with a sludgy bottle of linseed oil that sat on the shelf too long at the art supply shop. This is just a really fresh bottle of oil that was probably recently made. I had never heard of this brand but perhaps they make it in small batches. Of course some people prefer a thicker oil and you can even buy "sun thickened linseed oil" that was intentionally thickened in a controlled process. Personally, I like this thinner viscosity and this oil flows very smoothly. I had no trouble using it with the sable, windsor and newton series 7, detail brushes and those were originally designed for watercolor painting.

I am just getting started with oil painting but I know that from working with acrylic paint, a good flow for thinning paint is a must. This linseed oil works great and thinning out the oil paint and helps it spread flawlessly. I love the way it mixes into the paint and then flows off the brush. I appreciate how it does not take away from the color and leaves the paint vibrant. I am having fun just playing with the paint, mixing the oil in and getting a feel for how it all works and blends together. I am almost ready to start my first painting with oil. I think this bottle of oil will last me quite some time as a little goes a long way and it makes it a very good value for the money. A just have as an artist!
