I've never had to replace a flapper before, so thankfully this took very little knowledge and effort to do so. I did have to shorten the chain by a few links - but better to have too long rather than too short. The whole installation took less than 5 minutes and it is working like a charm. Overall this would work really well for most toilets. However, the toilet I was going to install this on had nowhere to clip the flapper to keep it in place and instead had a vertical pipe. I needed to purchase a different flapper because of this. So word of advice, look closer at the flapper you will be replacing before purchasing. I think the toilet that this was being installed on is older so more modern toilets this probably would fit most of them. ... show more

You probably need a new refill valve too. I thought this flapper was just cheap junk and went to Home Depot for something better. The guy working there told me korky has the best flappers and sold me a Fluidmaster universal refill valve for $9 Problem solved and it was super easy to install.

    • Easy trick to "unstick" adjustment ring

Bought 5 valves for 5 toilets since flappers were 6-7 years old. Read reviews on difficulty in adjusting ring (to open hole) and to turn dial to control how quickly valve closes. When I first tried to adjust, rubber wouldn't move even with firm tugging, like other reports. BUT I sprayed a small amount of WD40 in cracks between the parts and they immediately slid to whatever position I wanted with almost no effort. PROBLEM SOLVED! Clearly you can use any lube that's compatible with rubber parts. I suspect the pliable rubber ears will be easy to install on my Mansfeld brand toilets. ... show more

This thing is definitely a step-up from the OEM one we replaced in the toilet. Durable rubber with adjustable flush strength dial on the underside, which is a nice touch that the other one did not have. Great item, and did the trick nicely to stop a leaky tank! Highly Recommended!

Overall these are fine, but the chain was a few links too short for my old American Standard Plebe toilets. I had to take links off the old chain and add them to this one in order for it to work for my older toilets. If the chain is long enough for your needs, these are super-easy to install.
