The frame I bought for my king sized bed is very low, because my mattress is super deep. I wanted to attach the free standing frame to my existing headboard, and ditch the footboard and wooden rails. Because the tails attachment for my headboard is much higher, I had to but an adapter, but the holes didn’t line up. I found a way to make it work by flipping the brackets around and using spacers. I got these adapters to allow for bolting a hook-on headboard onto a newer bed frame that only supported bolt-on headboards. For my needs, it worked great and I don't have a headboard leaning on the wall anymore. First, these adapters are decently thick and rigid. This is important as many headboards are heavy and thin metal could bend. Their design also allows for a range of height options, which is useful as there isn't really a standard height of the rails on a frame. The main issue came when installing the brackets. My headboard had a horizontal bar across where the bracket would hook in. Since the adapter is supplied with machine screws to attach it to the frame, you need access to both sides to secure it. The bar on my headboard prevented access to the screw head side when it was hooked in. To install this, I hooked the adapters on the headboard, pushed them against the frame and marked the edge of the frame on the adapters. I could then install them on the frame at the right height and then lift the head of the frame into the headboard. If the screws were replaced with carriage bolts of the same length, this awkward process could be eliminated as the bolt could slot into the groove and stay still as the nut is tightened. They work as intended but are hard to tighten in the long term as they don't have a way to keep the bolt from spinning as you tighten the nut
