The media could not be loaded. I split a lot of wood when I was a kid. The tools that I had available were about three or four steel wedges, a ten or fifteen pound maul, and a couple of axes. This is a huge improvement over those. When I tell you that this is a nice system and I've enjoyed using it it's because it brought back a lot of muscle memory for me. It was so nice to be able to set up a piece of wood not have to worry about it pitching forward, not having to worry about all the things that I used to have to worry about because if you hit it at all wrong on any of those old splitting systems – wedges, mauls and axes - the wood could spin away, the wedge could go sideways and you had to spend a lot of time fixing things if you made even a single wrong stroke. This one I was able to just set up, beat on the top of the wood, slide it down and it just finally cleaved. As you can see from the video it took a little time for me to get it going because this is oak. That said it did it. The assembly time for the splitter was about 15 minutes and all the tools were provided. It is designed to be mounted on a bigger surface/log. I do not have a bigger surface yet so I used it flat set. Once we move to our next location and we have more wood on hand we will mount this one on a large stump. For now it will be splitting wood for projects and camp fires. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. One of the better built splitters I’ve collected! The lack of an enclosed top ring is a bit of a double edged sword it’s nice that I can attempt larger logs without being limited by a top ring but if the log doesn’t bite deep enough on the first swing or two it tends to bounce out and I had a log land on my foot 🤕 Thinking about it afterwards maybe I should be swinging from the side with the half ring so the log bounces out away from me 🤷🏼♂️ Well lesson learned. You can’t go wrong with this splitter if your splitting bigger rounds out by the woodshed just maybe get a smaller one for beside the wood stove to save space and split the little stuff last minute. ... show more

This wood splitter is fantastic. It was very easy to assemble, as the directions were spot on. It can handle logs, much larger than you would think. For the money, it was an excellent value, and I would definitely buy it again.
