I wanted a good chai for fall drinking and this is the best one that I've tried. It's strong enough to taste all the spices and the recommended brewing instructions really work (though if you're like me and are bad at watching the pot when boiling and it boils over you can also just warm milk, boil water and steep all together with tea in a teapot for 10 minutes). I do let it steep longer and haven't found that it makes the taste bitter but it does make it stronger and lets the spices come out better. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a touch of honey in mine and it's fantastic!

I don't typically pay any mind to Instagram ads and I rarely ever pay any interest to products advertised to me on social media, but as a tea consumer the ad for Kolkata Chai peaked my interest. I don't have a lot of experience with fresh made chai, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but that being said, this stuff is awesome! I made a cup on the stove following the guide on their website. Wow! It's "thicker" in the way that milk teas/coffees are, spicy in the best ways, and so flavorful. The fresh ginger they recommend you add really elevates this. Oh my goodness! The black pepper is so nice. I'm sold. This is going to be my weekend go-to going forward.

I enjoy the process of brewing chai almost as much as drinking it, and making chai with tea bags or concentrate is never as good as the real thing. I used to stock up on bags of chai ingredients at the local Indian market, but after downsizing the kitchen decided to give Kolkata Chai a go. I love that it isn’t oversweet, and the flavors are really nicely blended. I’ve had it hot and iced using their oat milk latte recipe online. The chai masala taste gets a little muted by the oat milk so I suggest using 3/4 the amount of milk indicated in the recipe to start. I will definitely buy another bag once I use this one up. It’s miles better (and cheaper!) than the sugar bombs for sale at the chain coffeehouses down the road.

I’ve bought the mix several times since spring 2024, complex taste, easy to prepare, simple instructions. However, the process has increased at least twice in 6 months. Price gouging, anyone?!?! I canceled my subscription & I’ll look for another brand. :-/

Followed the directions to a tee. Barely could taste the spice part of the chai. Ended up adding more cardamom and ginger to the package. And using more than is recommended per cup. A bit disappointing for the price.
