The futon arrived and I was a little overwhelmed because I thought it was going to be difficult to assemble. I was wrong!! It was super easy. I pur it together in a couple of hours while watching TV. At the end, my husband had to get off the couch and help me. So the final steps will need a second person. But the pieces feel like quality wood. It’s heavy and the color was rich and beautiful!!! I bought this for my home office and it was money well spent. The mattress is going to take some time to settl in the sitting position, but it’s fairly big and very comfortable! The sides come up and down. Do when I am sitting on the futon, I have a place to put my phone, drinks, or a book. I did buy a slip cover to keep dog hair off of the original futon. I purchased this futon and received it about two weeks ago. I havve done a ton of comparative shopping and this is a excellent deal. I have had two other futons before this one. This is by far the best quality, very pleased with this futon. The assembly is pretty easy but it does take some time to assemble. I suggest doing what I did and watch the online video,,, I didn't even have to read the instructions. The futon is very comfortable when using it in the couch position. It is also very comfortable to sleep on, the mattress is more firm which I happen to like. I did find it fairly difficult to fold back into the couch position from the bed position. I then discovered another Kodiak video on youtube showing how to fold the bed back, special hand placement,, and it made a world of difference. Over all I am extremely pleased with this purchase. The futon is sturdy, comfortable and looks great. I have had compliments from several family and friends. I would recommend purchasing this futon, I doubt you will regret it. ... show more

Things to know: - This piece was for a guest bedroom. We wanted a pull out couch without the pullout couch price tag. - It came in separate packages on 2 different days. - It is very heavy. - You’ll need 2 adults to put it together. If you have put together any furniture before, you know your level of skill and how much time it takes you to figure out the directions. Give yourself plenty of time, do not rush, and expect to put together, take apart a bunch of times before getting it right. Pay attention to detail, such as where the holes are, the shape and size of the pieces, what piece goes over/under the other, etc. Every written direction is important. I preferred the written directions. My husband preferred the video. The video was a great addition I hadn’t seen before. - The holes aligned except at the very end for the arm rests. I am not sure how confident I am in it holding a drink without slipping, which was the point of the Phoenix model. - I am happy we got a model with the drawers for storage. There was a small chip in the wood. We used a wood marker to fill it in. For a guest bedroom, it’s fine. - The full mattress is super heavy. It took 2 adults to place it just right. At first I regretted not getting the queen, but I can’t imagine putting an even heavier mattress up and down from couch to bed. I slept on it 1 night to try it out and it was surprisingly comfortable! I have no problem having a guest (or 2) sleep on it for a night. ... show more

We ordered this for our new room because we needed seating but also wanted the bed for when our kids and families are here. I am a 71 year old woman and I put it all together except needed help to put the bed frame on the base. It came short one piece of hardware and one side had a split in the wood. I emailed the company on a Friday night and they responded first thing Monday morning. They sent the replacements right away. I am so impressed with the company! They were quick, courteous and very helpful. And I really appreciate that. Back to the futon. We had everyone here for Thanksgiving and it worked out great! It is comfortable and looks great in the room. It was easy to put together and is a sturdy piece of furniture. It has been slept on and they slept well and found it comfortable. My only complaint is that although it is easy for one person to make it into a bed, one person cannot make it back into a couch. It takes a second person to lift the back to get it started so you can transform it into a couch. ... show more

Instructions to put together were better than IKEA, everything is color coded. You will need a second person for one step - but everything else one person can assemble. A little pricier than I wanted to go, but ultimately worth it for the quality and appearance, as well as the added tray feature on both arms. That was important to me because I didn’t want to spend extra money on end tables for my home office, especially because it’s not a big space. So built-in collapsible trays are the perfect solution, and worth the extra $100 or so, compared to other more basic futons. I’ve also had lower quality futons in the past which flattened over time and were just cumbersome to expand or collapse, not sturdy, etc. This one is basically like a couch. My sister and her bf spent the weekend on it when visiting and said it was comfortable. I have not slept on it, but sitting on it is very comfy! Also, I thought it would be hard to slide the bottom drawers on carpet, but it’s not. And as another reviewer mentioned, the drawers are not attached, they just are free standing underneath the futon (though the overall look is cohesive and appears attached). ... show more
