Assembly took about 1 hour but allow 2 hours if you are relatively inexperienced. Instructions are clear and you basically match up the color dots on the wood pieces (not sure how well this works if you are color blind, but the pieces are also numbered and those numbers appear in the instructions too). During insertion of the folding bed section into the frame, you need a helper. The rest of the assembly is an easy one-person job. The sofa-bed looks nice, the futon itself is plush and very comfortable. Overall appearance is hard to fault and matches description / photos. Only two minor points of criticism. The two holes pre-drilled in one cross-member were filled with wax. Easily scraped out so only a momentary inconvenience. The sofa-bed is prone to creaking - even when my 110 lb wife sits down on it. I might, at some future moment, disassemble the sofa-bed and use epoxy (such as JB-Weld) in addition to the bolts. The unit is sturdy and I believe the creaking emanates from the joins. The wood varnish and futon are 'gassing' which results in a not-unpleasant but noticeable odor. From experience this will dissipate over time. Overall this piece of furniture did not disappoint. The components are marked as 'made in Indonesia' which seems to contradict other reviews which claim 'made in America'. Sturdy, heavy & well made piece of furniture. Love the storage drawers. Mattress needs a little adjusting to get it to fit properly. Difficult for me to get it back into the upright position but my son has no problem. Bought it mainly for my son to sleep on while he is here for the winter months. He said it's very comfortable to sleep on. He assembled it very quickly even without watching the video, then just watched the video just to make sure it was done properly. I did have to contact Klondike about the mattress and Mike was very pleasant and helpful. It seemed to solve everything. Anyone who purchases this futon should be extremely satisfied. ... show more

    • Excellent futon bed - One small issue

Overall, this is a great futon bed. It's fairly easy to assemble, and appears to be manufactured well. The pop-up end tables are fairly sturdy. I do recommend a thicker mattress for it, 8" at minimum. The only flaw is the adjustment from sofa to flat bed is difficult to manage without two people. It's not a weight thing, it's more of a logistical issue, as the back and front need to be manipulated at the same time to prevent slamming the back. As both are rather large and awkward, performing both tasks solo is difficult at best. Other than that, this is a great piece. Last note - the drawers that slide underneath do not have wheels, they slide along the floor. This is fine for laying it flat, but you have to push them under when converting to sofa. Before I bought this, I contacted the company. They worked with me to find exactly what suited my needs. I ordered it with their help and it came in four boxes. Putting it together was simple. The parts were color coordinated. It came with an Allen wrench, but need some tools (rubber mallet and power drill if hand tightened bolts are preferred). Drawers are great for storing sleeping linen and pillows. Heavy and sturdy, it makes a good addition where extra sleeping room is needed. Even has good floor clearance for people with issues getting up off a low couch. Would recommend as it is a reliable purchase for the money. ... show more

I was taken aback when four boxes were delivered...not realizing how much assembly would be required. Futon arrives with one allen wrench as the only tool needed to assemble it. I am a 65 year old woman and decided that I wanted to assemble it myself. I needed my husband to help lift the bed platform into place and help open and place the mattress. Otherwise, I did it all myself; the frame took about two hours. I did the drawers a couple days later and they took less than 30 minutes. We purchased this for the front porch of our log cabin. The "peter's cabin" cover was perfect for our theming. I love the butternut color. We struggled to find exactly the right package with butternut, the drawers, the wonderful fold up leaf and Peter's Cabin cover...with prime shipping. It will be delivered in 4 boxes. Upon opening, it looks like you have to piece together a million pieces. Assembly is required, I did it in about 2 hours with a power drill. Will not be easy if you are not use to assembling furniture. If you are knowledgeable somewhat, maybe 3 - 4 hours, little 4-5 hours, no experience - days. Very sturdy, you will need all of your brute strength to convert it back to a sofa form, which has 2 positions. But getting it back to bed position is easier.
