    • Touch screen is a bit janky
The good: Great screen, very clear text and bright for night reading. Pen is great and Ive had it nearly a year and havent needed to replace the pen battery yet. Writing with this pen is acceptable. Noticeable lag but not unbearable. Much better experience in the notes app than in pdf's but my pdf's are thousands of pages so im forgiving there. Dropbox integration was a pleasant surprise. Very easy to set up and even syncs when i make an edit to a pdf so the updated version is always in the cloud. The bad The battery is not impressive, I use it on the highest brightness and I usually have to charge every other day with heavier usage. Not the worst experience but I expected better from epaper screens. My old kindle would charge once a month. The touch screen is janky, your finger presses is not registered where you touch, you have to tap multiple times to get to where you want to get to, especially for smaller UI elements like a menu dropdown arrow etc. Slow cpu, although advertised a 1.8GHz cpu, to pull the pdf menu down can take 1-2 seconds after tapping. That combined with a janky touch screen is my biggest gripe. Overall I am pleased with my purchase but, would I have known this is what I was getting, I would have waited for the kindle scribe. ... show more

I rarely leave product reviews but I really had to for this one. I could NOT be happier. I debated back and forth between this one and the kindle equivalent— but the deal breaker was being able to annotate directly in my books! I am in a creative writing program and read an extraordinary amount/have to be making notes constantly — I don’t have room to store a lot of books in my house and having had a kindle before I can say I love the Kobo universe so much more. The awards system is more gratuitous— they link with libraries so you can get books for free via those but the ebook options/coupon/sales have been so great I’ve just been buying my books so far. Amazing battery life, responsive note taking and highlighting — if just a bit slow with processing sometimes but minor concern. Lighting is perfect for all settings and I can read for hours without straining my eyes. Love it!!! ... show more

    • A nice looking product with great potential with a lot of buts
A perfect product with a great high resolution screen that i was waiting for so eagerly. The first thing i did was to update to the latest update. Unfortunately that was not enough. Despite the looks, Elipsa has a lot of, as we Greeks say in our language, Elipsis! Elipsis are all those things that are missing from a product that would desperately want to look complete! I have been a software & hardware developer for over 25 years and after playing with Elipsa it was more obvious than ever... They wanted to bring the thing to the market. Clearly, there is a long way to go... As a device it looks and feels very nice but the software, no matter how complicated it already is for the developers, is buggy and won't let you take full advantage of the hardware. I won't go into specifics. Most of you are facing the same obstacles as we speak! Latency during writing with the pen, latency during typing a word with the display keyboard, frequent hangs, inexplicable page refreshes etc Definitely nerve braking experience. Update: Kobo customer service walked me through upgrading the firmware, and it works now. So I changed my review to 4 stars. As a reader, it’s fine. But the notebook app doesn’t save the pages. When you switch to any other function, the pages you wrote are just gone, which makes it useless as a note taking tool. ... show more

    • Finally found the one for me
I had tried a few of these and returned them. I did not want an ereader or any other PC capabilities as I have a laptop PC already. The only reason I wanted one was for digital note keeping - that’s it. For the others, this functionality seemed lost in all of the other capabilities and maybe not even the key feature. The Eclipsa was a few hundred dollars less than the other which concerned me but is exactly what I was looking for. If you just want digital notes - this is a nice option ... show more
