Description

KNIPEX 86 03 250 SBA Pliers Wrench Self- ratcheting action (view larger).A one-of-a-kind tool with unlimited possibilities, the patented, easy-to-use Knipex pliers wrench is a fantastic tool for fastening, gripping, holding, and bending. Its slim profile allows easy access to confined spaces, making it one of the most versatile tools in your toolbox. This model (86 03 250) has a 10-inch length and a 1-3/4-inch opening capacity. It features a time-saving push button adjustment with 17 adjustment settings and infinite positions for quickly locking onto a variety of workpieces. Its parallel smooth jaws avoid damaging soft or plated materials and provide even, full-contact gripping of a wide range of sizes. It's a great tool for tightening locknuts, exerting pressure to activate the adhesive power of contact adhesives, edge breaking in tile work, snapping cable ties, and utilization as a small vice.Unlike an open-end wrench with uneven compression that can cause surface damage, this Knipex pliers wrench offers zero backlash under pressure. With a 10-to-1 lever ratio, the cam action design ensures a strong, secure grip without hand or wrist strain. The self-ratcheting action allows for fast, easy operation while eliminating the need for additional tools. The Knipex pliers wrench is available in a number of grips and sizes for a variety of applications.Excellent for gripping, holding, pressing, and bending applications (view larger).Quality in Every DetailSometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look. The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this. The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That's why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort.Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers.About KnipexHeadquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently-owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world's leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users.86 03 250 Pliers Wrench, 10-InchAt a GlanceSlim profile design head fits into tight placesSmooth, parallel gripping jaws for work on sensitive surfacesAdjustment at the touch of a button, and stays fixed for repetitive workInfinitely variable adjustment of widths across flats for metric and inch workpiecesCam drive increases force to up to 10 times the applied hand powerChrome vanadium electric steel, forged and oil hardenedSee larger image.SpecificationsJaw capacity: 1-3/4 inchesAdjustment positions: 17Length: 10 inchesWeight: 19 ouncesHandles: Plastic coated

  • Best tool I’ve bought in a long time.
I recently wrote a review for the 7 inch version of these pliers wrenches. These are simply a 10 inch version of the 7 inchers. Rather than rehash the exact review twice I will simply say they are one of the best additions I have made to my toolbox in a very long time. They combine all the strengths of channel locks and box wrenches into one tool that does is very useable and solid. For a more detailed review see my review of the 7 inchers, if you are just looking for a thumbs up or down, this is a solid two thumbs up. ... show more

  • Great tool
Everything I imagined with this tool coming from reputable knipex

  • Just. Buy. Them.
These pliers wrenches are everything I hoped they would be. I was hesitant because they were a little pricey but worth every penny. I have both the 180’s and the 250’s and something would to happen to either of them I would replace them immediately. I do residential maintenance and 75% of what I do it plumbing. If you do plumbing on a semi regular basis you will really appreciate these pliers. I carry both in my bag every day. I will say I still do carry 2 different sized adjustable wrenches. While these pliers are amazing I do not feel they are a direct replacement but complement my setup very well. I say this only because I personally don’t believe you would be able to put the amount of torque or force on the mechanism on these pliers wrenches as you would be able to with a traditional adjustable (Crescent) wrench. ... show more

  • Realize these are not normal pliers, these are pliers+wrench
I bought these because several online forums had working people praising them as 'the best' and most universally useful. They all acknowledged that the price was high, and that they may not even have the longevity of some other tools, but they still insisted that once you use them you will agree that they are the best. I did not realize at the time exactly what this tool was designed to do. It is not a replacement for normal pliers. It is more of a replacement/substitute for an adjustable wrench. The jaws remain parallel throughout motion and have no teeth. They are meant to be used on hex bolt heads/nuts. Having this ability to get a solid connection from pliers can be very useful, and will prevent damage to the fastener. You cannot however use them to grab a smooth pipe. The adjustment mechanism includes a button on a spring which feels flimsy but may be good enough. It may loosen up over time and be easier to use but for me, on a new tool, it does not adjust easily. The review process here rates versatility, value, and ergonomics. I give it a 3/5 on all three. As a specific substitute for a crescent style adjustable wrench I might rate it higher. I do not know if other brands make a similar parallel jaw adjustable pliers, so if being the only one makes them the best, then I guess that can be true as well. I mention all this for anyone unfamiliar with the product who may assume from pictures that it is the same as any other adjustable wrench, as it kind of looks the same. Knipex also makes the other kind, and they may be a better choice depending on your needs. ... show more

  • amazing Tool
This is the result if a adjustable wrench has a son with pliers, the best of both worlds, releasing the hand pressure you can make it a "ratchet" action. simply amazing

  • Not a father's day tool gimmic. These are awesome!
At work, I often have to disconnect and reconnect fittings of various sizes on equipment manufactured overseas. I also prefer not to drag around a handful of wrenches, and I hate adjustable crescent wrenches since they either adjust too tight or too lose. These are a cross between adjustable pliers and an adjustable wrench, but unlike most compromise/hybrid tools, these actually inherit the best of both worlds. These have become my favorite tool. They can adjust to hold a wide variety of sizes, and because they grip like pliers, they work equally well on small stuff as they do large stuff. Sometimes it takes a little playing around to get the correct jaw setting for some size nuts in order to get a good rhythm down, but once you do they work really fast to remove stuff (I use them a lot on Swagelock fittings). They are lighter than an adjustable crescent wrench and much more versatile, but they are very strong. They only have two downsides: They are expensive. This is the most expensive hand tool I have ever bought. But I figure if I use it for years and years instead of buying a cheap adjustable wrench that I carelessly misplace after the jaw becomes loose and damages what I am working on, I figure its well worth it. The only thing they are not good for is breaking loose something very tight, and for irregular shaped parts. For that, I get the Knipex Cobras. They leave teeth marks, but they will grip anything and everything you can fit in the jaws. ... show more

  • Nice heirloom quality tool
I now understand why some people swear to buy one and never look back. The story that brought me to this purchase starts with needing a 28mm wrench for nut on a gas regulator. Searched around and found out that Home Depot had no wrench that size in any store in my area. So I searched the internet and found that it might cost $20 for one wrench. Mindful that this wrench is only needed once in awhile to change gas cylinders I opted for the versatile Knipex Pliers wrench. Could not be happier with my choice. Previous to this purchase I bought and have in use two Cobra pliers and love them also. One pair is the 10" slim profile Cobra Plier and the other is the normal 12" pair. The 10" slim pair is my everyday go to and the 12" gets used with my pair of channel locks to work on water pump fittings. I have had the channel locks for the longest and must admit they still are in service but usually in conjunction with one of the others. The Knipex pliers are engineering art! ... show more
