I picked this center channel over the predecessor RP-404C Mark I. This one is not as deep so it will fit on my mantle. I never have high hopes for center channels as far as sound. But I was blown away by the sound! It actually to me sounds slightly better in the upper frequencies compared to my main Left/Right speakers which are RP-600M’s! I learned the hard way not to skimp on center channels since they handle the majority of the sounds. This is a pricey speaker but I am very happy I went with it! This is a very good speaker considering it is a low profile one. As the woofer size is 4 inches this will limit the overall sound quality that a center speaker can offer. Most of the really great sounding center speakers have woofers of at least 5 inches in diameter and are higher in height. Due to space limitations I had to settle for a low profile center speaker such as this one. Compared to similar products by JBL and Polk,the RP 404C II is superior. Well built and handsome design. No rear ports and sealed enclosure allows this center to be very shallow and compact, especially compared to other Klipsch RP centers. As such, I can set it on a floating shelf right up against the brick above my fireplace. Sound is full and natural, and it doesn't have as much of the highs bias that Klipsch is known (infamous) for, and that I usually equalize to mitigate to my tastes.
