I got a marbling kit as a gift for a kid and thought it looked fun, so when I saw another one I could try I had to get it and it was sooooo worth it. I had so much fun with this kit, actually I've only used 1 packet of the water solution and there is a whole other pack I'm saving for another time. As far as this being geared more towards kids I would say older kids 10+ would probably be more ideal for this than younger kids as there is a bit of a learning curve. Basically what I found was that you have to relax and release control for this project because the marbling paints gonna do what the marbling paints want to do - it can't be tamed lol! I really enjoyed doing this and found is therapeutic/relaxing, but I had my brother try and although he did end up having fun it was kind of stressing him out that he couldn't get colors and patterns exactly how he wanted them. Some tips: #1 most important I think, make sure you get the water ready way ahead of time. You need to add this powder (included in kit) to water to make the paints float on the surface and not sink. You have to get the water ready 12-18 HOURS BEFORE STARTING PROJECT. I suggest making a jug or Tupperware bowl full of this water/powder solution so you can do several marblings, because you can use like 350ml of solution to do a couple marblings from my experience. I put a little over 1 cup of the water solution in the provided tray and with that made 1 design with the paints and transfer to paper. Then used paper towel to remove any excess paint left over and did 1 more design, then replaced the solution with clean. Also I found that sometimes I could use a design a couple times, the first time was very bold and bright and then the second time using the same paints the design was the same, but more pastel. Basically, try new things and have fun with it. I found playing around to be super fun and there was only 1 design I did that I didn't like and I think that was because I swirled too much and the paints kind of muddied together. Also I did notice after a couple of designs that the paper has a smooth texture on one side and a more stubbly texture on the other - the smoother texture actually works better for showing off the marbling designs. ... show more

    • Fun and easy
One thing you really need to know about this art kit is that you are supposed to prepare it 12-18 hours ahead of use. I had my granddaughters coming over to try it out and didn't read the instructions until about an hour before they arrived. I went ahead and prepared the surface and waited just the one hour, not 12-18 hours and we still had fun, but remember this prep time for best results. The set includes a tray, packets of carrageenan (which I believe is a sort of vegetable gelatin) which you mix with water to prepare the tray, many colors of paint, and some tools. The tools were a thrill for my little girls, 4 and 6. A pipette, a comb, and several sticks for mixing the colors made this project a lot of fun. You drop some colors into the try, mix the colors up and form patterns in them with the tools, and then lay the papers (included) into the tray. Remove them and let them dry and you have splendid marbleized cards and gift tags. The tray keeps the mess contained and the colors didn't stain our hands or clothing. You can use the kit at least twice (2 packets of carageenan), but there's enough paint for additional uses if you have another source of the carrageenan. The tray and tools are sturdy enough for continued use. All in all, this is a fun art kit for kids or adults and it has everything you need. Perfect for visiting children. ... show more

You mix the included carageenan powder with water in the tray, let it thicken overnight and then add your paint drops. Swirl in the tray and then place your paper, card, etc on the surface and let dry. This is a fun kit, but smaller children will definitely need assistance and supervision. This is a great art kits for kids - I love it as an adult! The results are so fun and pretty. It is satisfying to see something so cool come out at the end. I only wish there were more components included. Ii am not sure how many things we can get out of the paints included and they could have included more sheets of paper or cutouts. But you can always use anything else you have to "color." ... show more

...except the kids! This is a fun craft to do with kids. A little messy, but the mess is contained. It lets the kids explore their creativity. They did reduce the number of greeting cards you get from 3 to 1, but that is fine. It wasn't a shortage, as they had placed a sticker over the number 3 that had a 1 on it.
