Description

The Cameo Bible is one of the classic Cambridge editions of the King James Bible, dating from the 1920s. The Bible text was set in an attractive historic typeface, Petit Medieval Clarendon, and is printed large enough to be clear and easy to read while small enough to result in a compact Bible. The Bible has pronunciation marks for difficult words and phrases, full cross- references, a concordance and maps. Unavailable for a while, the Cameo Reference Edition was recently re-issued in response to continued consumer interest, in a new range of binding styles. The Bible comes with a concordance and 15 color maps. The text has pronunciation marks for names and the words of Christ on earth are printed in red. This edition includes the Apocrypha. It is one of the very few current editions of the King James Version so to do. It is printed on India paper art-gilt edges and is bound in black calfskin leather. Read more

  • The King James Bible with Apocrypha simply amazing!
Format: Leather Bound
I have had this little gem on my wish list for a very long time. I deleted it and placed back on my wish list so many times its laughable. But just recently I finally broke down and bought it. Why? Well, its the King James Bible with the Apocrypha from Cambridge Press that's why. I love the King James Bible and I have a running collection of buying the King James Bible in as many formats as possible. I love the way its sounds, I love the way it reads, I love the way its translated, I just simply love it. Now anybody who has followed me in my reviews here on Amazon knows that my main, number one and favorite English Bible is the REVISED STANDARD VERSION WITH THE EXPANDED APOCRYPHA (1977 Ed.). However, I started on the King James Bible. Now I was not on the King James Version that long because as a Greek Orthodox Christian growing up in the early to mid 80's the RSV with Expanded Apocrypha was our unofficial OFFICIAL English Bible. The RSV was in all our services, liturgical readings, etc. However, our Russian Orthodox brothers and sisters over in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia were devoted to the King James Version of the Bible with the Apocrypha in their liturgical and biblical readings, services, etc., and still are to this day. Now why is that? Well according to some well in the know ROCOR people its because the Russian Orthodox Council in Moscow in 1917 actually recommended the use of the King James Version of the Bible among the Russian Orthodox faithful in the English-Speaking part of the world. At the time there really weren't any other English versions of the Holy Bible so it seemed like a logical choice at the time. However, that recommendation stuck even when better English Bible versions came out, and has stuck to this day. In ROCOR the King James Bible is almost, ALMOST, treated like the Septuagint (i.e. a divinely inspired translation). So its not technically KJV Onlyism, but is close. In any event, because such a large part of the English-Speaking part of the Orthodox Church uses and admires the KJV of the Bible I bought it and now use it from time to time. The King James Version with the Apocrypha it still to this day a very well translated and very accurate English translation of the Biblical texts it was based on (OT - The Second Rabbinic Bible, Apocrypha The Septuagint of Codex Vaticanus and NT the Textus Receptus of the Greek New testament) with the various other translation diligently compared. The English is antiquated, but not impossible to learn and being that most King James Bible are based on the Oxford edition of 1769, thus updated with modern type face and mostly modern punctuation, one can still read, understand and enjoy the King James Bible with only a 200 word or so expansion of one's vocabulary to fully understand the KJV of the Bible. Further, although I love the King James Bible's flow of language and turn of phrase I am still committed to modern biblical scholarship and rigor, especially as we examine the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient Biblical Manuscripts of the Old Testament and the New Testament to help us better understand and "Re-Create" the Old and New Testament texts. As much as I love to read, study and meditate upon the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament Translation) I know that today we have far better and more reliable biblical texts than the Septuagint, Vulgate, and even the Second Great Rabbinic Hebrew Bible for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus New Testament. With that said, I would still buy, use and enjoy the King James Bible for its beauty and for its blessed devotion to the traditional understanding of certain biblical passages. In that the King James Version is deeply committed to not only translating the Biblical Texts, but translating them in such a way as to reflect the traditional understanding of certain passages pursuant to the mind and understanding of the early Christian Church Fathers. (Reade the preface to the 1611 edition the translators says this very explicitly). Its because of this translating "perspective" that it is still used and honored by many an English-Speaking Christian, even Orthodox Christian. As far as the text itself is concerned I should warn the King James Only people who are devoted to the so-called PCE (Pure Cambridge Edition) version of the King James Bible. This is NOT it! This does not bother me any, but the PCE people need to know just in case they end up buying this version of the King James Bible and they later discover that it does NOT conform to the Pure Cambridge Edition of the King James Bible. Also, their are 5 places in the New Testament that the King James Version of the Bible used the English word "Propitiation" for the Greek word ἱλαστήριον. The Revised Standard Version uses, IMHO, the better word "Expiation." Propitiation means appeasing the wrath of a vengeful god while expiation just means removing one's sin or cleansing one from sin. So the King James Version is not perfect and the bias of its translators comes through, but for the most part these things can be compensated for and people, especially Orthodox People, can still use the King James Bible if they so prefer. So still beautiful, still wonderful to read and hear and still declaring the word of God after 400 years. Not bad, not bad at all. Pick up this little gem and use it. You won't regret it. PS: However, if you want to get the best of the best of English Bibles then follow this link and get this bible ASAP! Here is the link:http://www.amazon.com/dp/019528335X/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=O33YJ2FMBAR5&coliid=I1ZYBLVI28WXEG. Get it while its still here because its getting harder and harder to find these days, and this English Bible, the RSV w/Expanded Apocrypha, is still hands down the best English translation of the Holy Bible and based upon very good and accurate Biblical Texts and Manuscripts. Heck, get both the KJV and the RSV and you are good to go. Take care. ... show more

  • A Gem amongst a sea of false doctrines A Gem amongst a sea of false doctrines
Format: Leather Bound
I want to start by saying this one amazing bible and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a well-made, high quality bible that preserves the word of the most high, Yahawah (God). For this review, I will also compare this King James Version (KJV) Cameo bible to the 1611 KJV for two reasons: 1) I only purchase, read, and own 1611 KJV bibles and 2) Every other translation that is not KJV removes & replaces words, removes parts of verses, or omits entire verses. This is not only blasphemy but is strictly forbidden by the most high (See Proverbs 30: 5-6, Revelation 22: 18-19). Construction: This KJV Cameo is very well made and feels nice when handled. It is made out of calfskin leather, which is a very durable and a high quality leather to own and use. It has more of a matte finish, not being glossy, but slightly more firm than other calfskin books. Content: The KJV Cameo preserves the words of the most high. As stated in the listing, this bible contains the Old Testament, Apocrypha, New Testament, a concordance, maps, cross references, two ribbon markers, and red letter text, which signifies Yahawashi (Jesus) is speaking. One of the main reasons I chose this specific edition is due to its inclusion of the Apocrypha, which is rare for a standard KJB bible; also for the red letter text. I am pleased to have both in one book! Size: This KJV Cameo is compact and portable. Its measurements are 7.5 x 5 x 1.5 inches (19.05 x 12.7 x 3.81 cm). Comparison to the 1611 KJV: • The table of contents for the KJV Cameo lists the page numbers each book begins on, while the 1611 KJV lists the number of chapters in each book (See photos). • The KJV Cameo numbers each page at the bottom while the 1611 KJV does not. • The font size for the KJV Cameo and the 1611 KJV are the same, that being 8pt. The difference is that the KJV Cameo uses Petit Medieval Clarendon Style font, while the 1611 KJV uses semi-modern Roman Style font. Both are equally easy to read in my opinion. • The KJV Cameo is relatively smaller than your standard 1611 KJV bible, about the size of your hand or even a large cell phone (E.g., Samsung Galaxy Note 9, iPhone 11 Pro Max). • The KJV Cameo does not contain the history of the bible translations but does have the translators notes by King James. • The KJV Cameo does not provide a brief summary before each chapter while the 1611 KJV does. • The KJV Cameo references for each chapter are centered instead of towards the outside, as is with the 1611 KJV. • The KJV Cameo corrects the misspelling of certain words within the 1611 KJV, however the words are exactly the same. Nothing was removed or replaced from the original text. Overall I am blessed to have found this bible and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid bible that covers all the bases. ... show more

  • The greatest book I have ever purchased The greatest book I have ever purchased
Format: Leather Bound
This is the best Bible I have ever come across as a child of the most High. The only downsides are: 1. The names aren’t in Hebrew 2. Some of the scripture references are incorrect. (I scratch them out and correct them lol) But these two downsides do not take away from the authority of the text. This is the best Bible I have ever purchased and I do not think I will stop using it. The text is easy to read and It is jam-packed with references that give you more understanding of some of the verses that seem puzzling and has a concordance and 15 maps, including the maps during the Maccabean period! This is the best complete 1611 King James Bible and I recommend this Bible to any Christian that wants knowledge of the scriptures. It may be pricey but I believe it is worth it to have a real complete King James Bible with apocrypha in your hands. The box is great to carry around with you when traveling to hold the Bible. The two ribbons are good when reading multiple texts. The leather feels nice and smooth while holding it. I absolutely love this Bible and is my most prized possession as a follower of the Messiah. I carry this Bible around like it’s another part of me and am understanding more about the most High than ever before. If you are contemplating on getting this book, please do; you will not regret it. ... show more

  • #1 Bible, hands down!!! #1 Bible, hands down!!!
Format: Leather Bound
I admit I was very excited when this bible arrived and once I opened the package, I was shocked. The box looked nothing like the ones in the reviews and on the product! Which is not a bad thing at all because I. Realized I got a special occasion boxing for the coronation of King Charles! It was beautiful seeing this come out the package and the Bible itself just felt so right to hold. The pages were soft and yet pristine and elegant. The very foundation of the pages as you go through feels like this Bible was made with love and royalty since it being from the UK. I was also pleased to see how this bible was complete with all books! Even our lords words are in Red, this bible had everything. The font used felt very original and unique. I would not hesitate to buy this, the price is worth it. To be honest, I just might buy another one because one of them should be kept safe while the other is used for reading. I feel like this bible is a safe keep! ... show more

  • A Catholic's Review A Catholic's Review
Format: Leather Bound
This is a review of the KJV Cameo Reference with Apocrypha Black Calfskin KJ455:XRA. I finally have it, the COMPLETE King James Bible with its venerable English! [NB: Apparently the November 1, 2010 publication had some pages missing. This is a review of the September 1, 2011 publication wherein the problem has been taken care of.] For me as a Catholic of course it's important to have the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha in my Bible and here they are in a beautifully constructed calfskin (real) leather bound smyth sewn version. Many thanks to Cambridge Bibles and Amazon. I'd like to note that Catholics along with Protestants do consider 1st (3rd) and 2nd (4th) Esdras and the Prayer of Manasseh Apocryphal books. These were put into the index of the official Latin Vulgate (Clementine Vulgate) in the 16th century, so here they are an added bonus for the would be buyer. The King James Version is the version from which the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (RSV - CE) came from, being of course revised. If you own a RSV - CE (Scepter Press) the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha therein have about FIVE cross-references, this is not the case with the KJV Cameo Reference with Apocrypha. It claims to be a "reference" Bible and indeed it is, as the cross-references from the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha to other books of the Bible are COPIOUS and in the other books as well. It is worth noting that the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha are also referenced (to) from the other books of this KJV edition though sparingly. The 8 point font is dark, very easy to read (and I use bifocals) as are the "Words of Christ in Red" which are a clear dark red. The leather is soft and the Bible lays nice and flat starting already at the Book of Genesis. The color maps are well printed and the text on the maps clear and sharp. Preceding the maps is a 138 page Concordance. Two red ribbon markers have about 3 inches length left out when the Bible is closed. It is printed and bound in the Netherlands. Five stars for sure! ... show more

  • A great addition to my Bible collection. Great size too A great addition to my Bible collection. Great size too
Format: Leather Bound
I love this Bible. It’s a great addition to my Bible collection. I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this. The words of Jesus Christ (Yashai HaMashayach) are in a deep dark crimson red as opposed to the bright red most bibles use. I appreciate the fact that it makes reading the 1611 text easier due to the modern english as opposed to the old english text. I also love the fact that it contains a concordance as well as ancient maps. Very important. The size of the Bible is very convenient too, not too bulky and big. They hide the truth by trying to claim the apocryphal books aren’t spiritually inspired, but that’s a bunch of lies. The apocryphal books contain prophetic scriptures of things to come as in 2 Esdras. The Apocrypha also shows the historical period of the rise of the Idumean Edomite Greeks via Alexander, son of Philip the Macedonian, showing when white people began to rule the earth and the prophecy of Esau ruling by the sword as told by Isaac his father started being fulfilled. All praises to The Most High The Great I AM (Ahayah) because he said in these last days that knowledge would increase and it definitely has. It’s important we as the lost sheep reclaim our heritage and study the records of our forefathers. This gospel of the kingdom has to be preached in all the earth and then shall the end come & Christ return. ... show more

  • A Gem
Format: Leather Bound
I was searching for a quality KJV with the Apocrypha that was compact and easy to read. Choices are limited. I read many positive reviews. Quality. Received mine in a box still in shrink wrap. In the original Cambridge packaging--not the Coronation packaging. Diminutive and perfect. Very vintage--reminds me of Bibles from my childhood. The font is wonderfully dark and the egg shell shade of the French paper makes it easy to read without my glasses. It's better with. Obviously, it is too small for people with serious vision problems. Reading the references is a bit more difficult. The calfskin cover is thin, but this is a Bible priced at $200. Amazon's price is fantastic at $119 plus tax. An incredible value when competitors offer at close to the MSRP. It's a great opportunity to possess the KJV as it was originally intended in beautiful prose, with a beautiful message. This is a great gift for bibliophiles and those who prefer the KJV. ... show more

  • Great Bible for the money, even though mine had a flaw.
Format: Leather Bound
I absolutely love my Bible! Cambridge material quality has always been top notch, and this addition is no exception. The calfskin cover is buttery smooth without being glossy. The paper is silky to the touch, but it isn't crinkly like onion paper. The ribbons leave something to be desired, but they are still not cheap. My copy came with the special addition box from the coronation of King Charles, which was quite the pleasant treat. I will cherish this copy as long as it last. The only reason I am giving this review four stars is because my copy has a small flaw. The text block was not seated into the cover all the way against the spine on one side. This cause the yapps on either side to be different lengths, and the spine sticks out on one side even when the Bible is fully closed. It also made the spine stamping look off center, even though I am sure it wouldn't be if the cover was on correctly. This to me is such a small issue, and I am sure I only noticed because I am a collector and rebinder. ... show more
