  • Working well so far
Size: 6 Pin Style: PCI-E Connector
My old motherboard has 3x x16 PCI-Express slots and 3x x1 slots. I have a GPU, SAS HBA, and NVME splitter card in the x16 slots (which are running at x8, x8, and x4), but I also have a 10gig networking card (with SFPs) that I wanted to use. That's where this came in. This has a small x1 adapter that plugs into the x1 slot on the motherboard, then uses a USB3 cable to go to the x16 slot (which free-floats - it doesn't attach to anything unless you use double-stick tape or such). The x16 doesn't have an end, so you can use anything from an x1 to an x16 card (it's not restricted by a shorter slot). There is also a six pin GPU-style power connector on the x16 board. This comes with a SATA-to-PCIe (six pin) power adapter, but I've read enough online about sketchy ones that I just put a six pin connector from my PSU to it directly. With that all connected you can turn on the computer and make sure the new device works. A few notes: 1. Be sure that you attach your PCIe device to the correct side - it's easy to slide it in on the wrong side if you're using a less than x16 card. Be sure you look for the little few-pin slot at the beginning, because it'll probably be the opposite of what you're expecting (and if you don't do this then **you can fry your card** - so really be sure that it's the right way). 2. Whatever card you put in will be limited to PCIe x1 speeds. This translates to some 8Gbps or 1GB/s for my older PCIe 3.0 motherboard (remember that Gb/Mb/etc is divided by 8 to get GB/MB/etc). Thus my 10gig network card will max out around 800-900MB/s rather than going up to the theoretical max of 1.2GB/s. Because I'm using HDDs instead of SSDs I can only go up to 200-300MB/s anyway so the slower speeds are fine (and better than the built-in 1gig network). PCIe cards are very flexible by nature, so you can certainly use a card designed for x16, it'll just be limited in speeds (so think about that before you load things up - you could theoretically use a PCIe x16-size NVME four-drive splitter that doesn't take bifurcation, but then you're still limited to a combined 1GB/s to and from the card). 3. Think in advance about where you'll put the card you use with this slot (ie you don't want a sensitive piece of electronics just dangling inside your case, lest it short out on a bump or something, nor do you want it just sitting uncovered on your desk) In the future I'm planning to get another for use with an external graphics card for reencoding video. Just know that you won't want to game with anything plugged into one of these. The only negative thing I have to say is that this requires unobstructed views from the PCIe x1 slot on the motherboard directly up - if you have a double-slot GPU that's mostly covering a neighboring x1 slot then you'll have to get a different adapter, because you won't be able to bend this at a 90 degree angle like that needs (there are specialized cards that do that - this is not one). All in all this is sturdy, lets me use the previously-inaccessible slots (the CPU cooler blocked me putting a card in properly), and gives me a bit more use out of my old motherboard. Definitely worth it. ... show more

  • It works amazing and it helps so much!
Size: 6 Pin Style: PCI-E Connector
I was surprised to find out that that this item actually but it did and it worked perfect! I do not do any bitcoin, I only purchased this external adapter so that I could connect a new GPU to my small desktop. My GPU was pretty big so it did not fit inside of my desktop case so I purchased this adapter to connect it from the outside and it work. I was a little unhappy that there is no case of this PCI adapter at all so it just hangs off my desktop computer from the back and it looks kind of messy and ugly but the point is that it works! I just cannot believe that no one has even bothered to manufacture any cases for this adapter like they do for external hard drives but I guess this device is not very common so it makes sense to a certain point. But it would be nice if this company or any other company on Amazon would eventually sell cases for this adapter not only for looks but so that we can protect the PCI adapter from any outside accidents such as splashing water on it which almost happened to me! ... show more

  • Works to get some additional connections
Size: 6 Pin Style: PCI-E Connector
Worked out great for what I needed. Useless 1x slot in my system expanded to support a larger card. It runs a little slow but gives we a few more ports for connecting some devices.

  • Just will blow your Power Supply
Size: 6 Pin Style: PCI-E Connector
Can't see how this product get a 4-star rating, put it in HP Prodesk 600 G5 in the 16x and 4x slot, the Power cable, and USB cable to the unit got insanely hot and would not even let the computer boot. Took it out of the Computer and everything happy - went with a Zotac GT 1030 Low Profile instead.

Great Riser. DO NOT USE SATA POWER. Find a splitter for your PCIe power but don't use sats. I have seen too many burn up the sata connector.
