Kingsley Combination Padlock - Set Your Own Combination Things have been picking up legs and walking off on my property lately. Someone broke into a locked shed of mine and easily manipulated it open. I had lots of valuable tools and equipment stolen just after my late husband passed away. So, I have been trying to be proactive to protect what I have left. I actually purchased more than one padlock in addition to this one. I placed them on various places on the property. One of the locks to lock my riding lawnmower to a post. I put one lock on my pool gate, and one on one of my two shops or sheds that I have on the outside of the door in addition to the regular door locks. I reserved this heavy lock for the main storage building that does have some valuables still in it. I may not stop a theft, but I'm going to try my best. Hopefully the new locks will at least deter would be thieves. The lock is heavy and well made and since the shackle is heavy, I feel better just knowing it is there. This is how I set up my new lock. The original number is 0-0-0, to set your own combination.1. Push in shackle and then pull up the shackle. You can only set the lock if it is open. 2. Insert the tool (small key ) in the side of the lock and Rotate the key/tool 90 degrees in either direction, the key/tool will stay in place. I could tell when I had it in the right spot, because when I pushed the tool/key it would stay in. If the tool is not all the way in, it wont set. 3. Push the shackle of the lock inside the lock chamber, and then. Set your own combination by turning dials to the convex line. 4. Turn the key/tool and then lock the lock to set the combination. shackle. Then the setting is completed. I did this and it worked the very first time. The picture is of me setting up the lock with the key in the side and then I set the combination, locked and unlocked the lock without issue. After reading these instructions, the directions indicated to remember your code and write it down in a safe place. I set a code easy for me to remember but hard for others to guess. I had no difficulty setting the lock or with it's functioning. The spindle was easy for me to manipulate, moving smoothly and locking securely. I like the size and feel of the lock and it is heavy and well made. I also like the brass dials, and that you have to have a key to change the code. I noticed in some of the other reviews that some of the customers had issues with the lock after several weeks of usage. So far, I've had my lock and been using it for about two weeks with no issues. Thus my five star rating. I will continue to use the lock and update my review if I have any issues with it in the future. So far it works great. ... show more

    • Great lock. Need a key to change the combination, so not anyone can change it without you knowing about it.

Great lock. You have to depress it in order to open it which just gives you an extra feature of security. Price point is spot on for a lock that you can change the combination code, but you need a key to do so. That means no one can change the combination code without the key. All other locks I have seen, anyone with a similar lock who knows your combination code can change the combination code on their own, but not with this lock. It is easy to open the lock with the combination code entered. It is a heavy duty lock, not light weight. It does have a thick handle so it doesn't fit just any latch, but it can fit any chain. Just received the Kingsley lock and it is bigger than I expected. But it is definitely a solid, well built lock. Was planning to use it for my gun case but instead will use it for my indoor storage unit as a secondary lock. It was extremely easy to set up. Even changed the combination a few times to make sure it would be just as easy a second and third time. Once it's locked, it is solidly in place. There is no rattling or shaking the lock hook. The number wheel at the bottom is somewhat small but they're manageable. I can see where it might be an issue if you use this outdoors in the elements which is why I'm opting to use it in an indoor setting. Overall it's a solid built lock. ... show more

    • Looks Nice, but will it hold up.
Nice looking lock. Our problem is after a few months on the gate, in the rain and weather, none of them we have bought seem to hold up. Corrosion sets in and the lock becomes hard to turn dials and to use. We've tried Master, Sesame, a couple of others, and basically we can expect only a year or less before we need to replace. I have squirted WD 40, and that seems to help, but that itself is inconvenient. Let's see how this one holds up. But it will be several months, unless it breaks quicker, before I know if our rating of 5 was deserved. I promise to come if allowed by Amazon and update this. ... show more

    • Cheap and not worth it
Received this product to lock an outdoor shed in March. Never worked particularly smoothly, but it was inexpensive and functioned so I kept it. 4 months of increasingly unreliable use later, this lock is broken and will not lock. Not worth it. I'm going with an Abus replacement, always been happy with them. ... show more

I have both this one and ABUS 160/50. They are similar size with ABUS being a little larger but not by much. If priority is corrosion resistance and/or security I'll recommend ABUS. If priority is looks and/or price I'll get Kingsley. It is the ONLY lock that I found that has all the features that I want (see below) with good reviews AND it is chromed. I'm happy with both serving different purposes. Both - have brass dials, - have double lock, - 4 dials, - require a key to change the PIN - very important so they do not change the PIN by accident, - require to scramble the dials before closing and thus can be closed w/o first setting the PIN so you can leave it for someone else to close it w/o having to give that person the PIN. ... show more

Beautiful lock that appeared to be made of quality materials at a great price. UNFORTUNATELY, it stopped working after only six months of light use inside the house on a footlocker that was only opened a couple times @ week. The lock just stopped closing after unlocking as if a part of the mechanism broke and now it won't lock or accept a combination change. I should of realized that these locks were flawed after reading all the reviews from buyers that had the same problem or similar problem. Read all the 1 & 2 STAR reviews. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS LOCK unless your willing to accept that there's a good chance you'll be buying a new lock sometime in the near future and may be cutting this one in two to open it . ... show more
