This is a sturdy, well made, welded splitter. I planned to use this to split smoking wood for my charcoal grill. These pieces are normally 4 or 5 inches long and several inches in diameter. The plan was to just hold them on the blades while striking. Notice I said "planned". Unfortunately, the splitter will not work this way. The reason is that the crossed blades are not the same height. I cannot balance or pin the short wood pieces on top of the single highest blade. The distance from highest blade tip to the support ring is 3 inches making it difficult to hold the wood while striking. Even though this does not fit my plan, it is quite robust and should work fine for longer, thicker wood splitting. ... show more
