This premium leather "Kindle O" cover arrived today. And yes, I'd have to admit, the smell of leather is soft porn for both men and women. The Pros: Beautiful, feels like I'm on a Texan ranch, great to hold, most importantly, light weight, yet here lies the problem. The Cons: I will ask Amazon or the customers if I should put a repellant on it (you know, like we did to our workbooks when we were teens.....with that funny little applicator and the result was darker boots?). lol It is very thin yet as others have pointed out, it needs to be as to not add weight. Since my initial review, I gave this cover the 5th star because it is developing a wonderful patina. At the price that it is now, I'd say go for it. I do wish Amazon would have advertised "Kindle Oasis" or just "Kindle" instead of the Amazon stamp on the lower front of the leather. ... show more

    • The best case for the Kindle Oasis
This is easy to hold, activates and shuts off the Kindle when opened and closed (as most do), and just looks really good. Feels great in the hand and takes on all of the natural appearance of leather as it is used. I tried to migrate to another eInk reader that rhymes to “book” but the Oasis in this cover is just something hard to put down and even harder to beat. ... show more

    • Good Choice if You're Looking for the Look and Feel of a Bound Book
If you're of my generation and graduated to e-books from a lifetime loving the tactile experience of holding a bound volume in your hands and caressing its pages, the premium leather cover helps reclaim that joy while reaping all the benefits of an e-reader. It's not as sturdy or classy as the original, Kindle-branded leather cover with metal clasp sold years ago with earlier generations, and I wish it weren't stamped with "Amazon," and as many note, the veneer is paper-thin. That said, it has sufficient heft and feel to create a pleasurable reading experience and that's what you're looking for. I would hope, though, that it's next re-design will bring back the "Kindle" branding on the cover. ... show more

    • Great product but covered Amazon name
I rarely write product reviews but felt I had to compare the Amazon Oasis leather cover with the Ayotu Skin Touch for the new Oasis. I purchased both and returned the Ayotu, despite my belief that this product is better “value for money.” The Amazon cost 3 times the price of the Ayotu, which fits well over the Oasis, feels very soft, does not show scratches as easily as the Amazon, and seems like it would protect the Oasis. I was also impressed that Ayotu included directions for a product review, which showed confidence. But, I liked the real leather of the Amazon and the darker color. Also, the Amazon cover is a tad bit sturdier and would appear to offer a little more protection if the Oasis were dropped. I was very turned off by the Amazon name on the cover and almost returned it for that reason alone, but I realized I could cover the name Amazon with a mailing sticker that has my name and address. So, I gave Ayotu a 5 rating and Amazon a 4 because the cost of the latter is way too high but kept it anyway. ... show more

    • Barely leather
This cover is perfectly functional, and it fits the oasis great. However, the bulk of the case is made of plastic, with just a paper thin veneer of leather glued onto the outside, and a similar velour or velvet on the interior where it touches the screen. It's just enough to give it the feel and smell of leather, but the leather is a surface finish only. That's probably a decent design choice, given that a full leather cover would probably weigh much more than the kindle itself, it might be unwieldy, or fatigue your hands during reading. Even with this thing, I find I prefer to take it off for long reading sessions, even though even with the cover it's still loads lighter than your average paperback. It's just the the oasis is so thin and light when it's naked that it's a pleasure to read on, and the cover detracts from that a fair bit. Other than that, though, it's decent enough. In all, it's a decent case, but calling it a leather case is a bit misleading. ... show more
