To detect carbon monoxide, an electrochemical sensor is used. This alarm offers a modern 5-inch design ideal for all living spaces such as living rooms, hallways, kitchens, & bedrooms. Comprehensively tested and designed to the latest UL standard for safety and reliability, the 5-inch smoke & CO alarm is powered by 120V AC wiring with a 10-year built-in lithium battery, so you never have to change a battery for the life of the detector (not a battery performance claim). In addition, it’s self-testing and easy to install with the included twist-and-click mounting bracket. This Kidde combination alarm is equipped with end-of-life notifications that will beep to remind you it’s time to replace it at the of its 10-year lifespan. The 10-year backup battery is a huge plus, and the interconnect feature gives peace of mind since all the alarms go off together. The LED lights make it easy to tell whether it’s smoke or carbon monoxide. Setup was quick — just swapped the wiring harness and mounted it. I bought 5 of these that interconnect with each other. They were working great and had been in service for a year. Then one of them alarmed. It was obvious that it was a false alarm. I reset it and a few hours later it false alarmed again. I took it down thinking it was bad. The next day another one in a different room did the same thing. I got the paperwork that came with them and began to look at the warranty, and general instructions. The alarms were in place for right about a year. We also had several rooms in the house painted. The painters repaired imperfections on the wall before painting. I found in the instructions for cleaning these it is recommended to take them down once and year and use compressed air to blow them out. If dust gets on the sensors, it can make them false alarm. I cleaned all 5 of them and now several months later no false alarms. Every year I will take them down and blow them out. ... show more

    • Easy to install. Is a combo Smoke and CO2 detector.

Easy to install, though it was different from the one we were replacing. Came with something to leave over the detector if construction was still going on. In our case, we were replacing one that went through construction without protection from dust. Works with our other Kidde hardwired detectors. Love the 10-year battery, which may outlive us. There were cheaper ones, but my other ones were Kidde so I knew this one was compatible with them. It plugged right into connection plug, though as I stated above, we did have to change out the bracket even though the previous one was just 4 years old. I think our previous one was just Carbon Monoxide so having a dual detector was an improvement and am very happy with this product. This one looks smaller than our previous one, but is not. The media could not be loaded. I purchased three Kidde hardwired Smoke/CO alarms with internal 10 year battery, on March 19, 2025 so that all units in my home would match. One of them has already become defective. For the last week, it has been giving 3 loud beeps every 2 minutes for hours at a time—even after resetting. It works for a day, then starts all over again. This has been happening at all hours, including 4 AM, and has been extremely disruptive for my family and pets. I’ve had to disconnect the faulty unit and place it in the garage because it would not stop beeping. When I go to order a replacement, I see that the model is no longer available and has already been replaced with a new version. Since I purchased a matching set of three, I need a solution that allows me to keep my alarms consistent. Please let me know the next steps for a warranty replacement or equivalent model. ... show more

    • Great detector but must replace the ceiling mounting plate

Great smoke & CO detector. Even though it is the hard-wired version, it is easy to insert the soldered leads into the plug of the old detectors so they don't have to be rewired. I found that I did have to use the ceiling hanger that came with the detector as the new detector could not be secured to the ceiling properly. That just meant that I needed to replace the ceiling mount plate at the same time as the detector before installing the new one. My previous smoke/CO2 detector was 8 years old, and had a different wiring harness plug. This unit comes with the new plug (same three wire setup). So as long as you are comfortable untwisting and re-twisting the three wire nuts to hook up the new plug, it's no big deal. Activating the 10 year battery is accomplished during setup as you twist it onto the mounting bracket. ... show more
