  • Proof We're in a Golden Age of Guitars
Color: Satin Vintage Blonde
5-stars, not because it has Fender quality, but because of multiple other reasons. All of which were unexpected. Especially for the sale price of $169. -- This KGD cream-colored Telemaster looks almost precisely like the Amazon photo. Scar for scar, scratch for scratch. What you see is what you get. Which, to me, is a beautiful paranormal style relic. KGD must have high quality control in their relic-ing dept. -- The roasted maple neck is exquisite. Smooth. Tending toward thick. Straight as an arrow and plays like butter. The fret ends are rounded and manicured. Literally exquisite. -- Truss rod adjustment earns the award for innovative practical design. Adjust the truss rod at the bottom of the neck using a metal wheel with regular holes/slots. Insert the enclosed tool (a 4" thin metal rod) or any other thing you might have handy which fits. A quarter turn was never easier to gague or implement. Simple. Brilliant design. Keep your allen hex wrench in the toolbox to strip the truss of another guitar. This KGD will never have that problem. -- Pickups are perfectly serviceable. But also totally replaceable if you're so inclined. Ex: pickups are the weakest I ever came across. But I expected this. I'll replace them. You don't have to. They sound absolutely juicy. Just weak. -- Electronics. The tone pot is perhaps the most severe A-Type Audio taper pot in my experience. The treble fades completely to bass (meaning high frequency removal) in the space of the final 2 millimeters. No exaggeration. Other than this, the electronics are perfectly serviceable, but also utterly replaceable if you're so inclined. Everything works fine as-is but I've already ordered all new electronics which I'll install myself. It's fun for me. This is why I bought the guitar. I like modding. -- Hardware is chrome plated. The knurl ends on the volume and tone knobs are sharp. If you're a builder then perhaps your fingers won't mind. My soft fingers tap computer keys most days so my sensitive skin will be replacing these knobs straight away. Control panel is a little warped up in the middle. Like a sixteenth of an inch. Not a problem for most folks and for $169 I was expecting an imperfection here and there. -- Setup. I had to adjust the truss rod a quarter turn. Lowered the saddles a few turns. This guitar plays like paradise. The action is perfection. It's a modern miracle how a guitar of this caliber can be sold so inexpensively. I played an American Tele for years, a Rickenbacker for decades. The neck on this KGD guitar holds up in comparison to these two megaliths. I think the KGD neck is actually superior to both of them. Sure, you can see the join - but I'm talking about feel and playability. This neck is crafted exquisitely. The frets are all dressed and rounded at their ends. The guitar's weight is relatively light. This KGD Telemaster is a warmly welcomed and surprisingly high quality guitar for an unbelievable price. Seriously, I'm looking at what other guitars KGD offers. . ... show more

  • An awesome guitar. Great platform for modding!
Color: Sunburst
The guitar is pretty dialed right out of the box. One of the best relic jobs ive seen outside of the custom shop guitars that only lawyers and dentists can afford. The neck is straight and the frets are level and polished. Tuners and pickups are the weakest points but i usually swap those on any guitar i own. ... show more

  • NOT FOR A BEGINNER
Color: Satin Vintage Blonde
Its a decent guitar if you know how to work on one. Right out of the box the action was fine not much to complain about. But the electronics were terrible. The pickups hum louder than the notes when you play and they act like miniature microphones picking up every little movement your right hand makes. I replaced the pickups and shielded the control cavity with grounding tape and it now works like it should. Definitely not for a beginner. ... show more

  • Understand what you're getting into. Good project guitar. Not a plug and play guitar. UPDATE
This guitar is like buying an old house. It looks nice, but has serious problems. I bought one in seafoam green, anticipating what I was getting into. Unboxed, the relic job looked pretty cool, but the paint job kind of looks like it was done with a roller. The guitar had unseated frets, which were easily seated with a brass hammer on my guitar. The frets were also too long and had to be filed back to the neck on the first seven frets. The pickups were absolutely awful, very low output and microphonic, and not set correctly. Even after adjusting the pickups, I found them unusable. Even with all of that bad news, This guitar has great bones. If you toy around with guitars like I do, you may find that this thing is worth putting a few dollars into. After a pickup swap, this guitar came to life and sustains better than anything I own. The control circuit seems solid and the bridge is nice and beefy. Replacing the tuners can be a problem because the headstock on mine was drilled to 7/16". You'll have to get oversized ferrules and shim them. UPDATE I've owned the guitar for about three months and have leveled the frets, replaced the pickups, the nut, changed the bridgeplate (which was quite good) , Installed a "Bigsby" and shimmed the neck. I also rewired the electronics a bit and now this thing plays like a $1,500 guitar. I have about $150 to $200 extra in it. It plays as good as anything I have and has a unique resonance and it sustains for days! Hope this helps. ... show more

  • exactly what i wanted
Color: Satin Vintage Blonde
i was very unsure about buying this considering all the bad reviews but i went out on a limb because i wanted it so bad, i think its exactly what the picture says, its relic’d and its not some cheap looking sanding it feels good for 200$ i think this is a good price the guitar isnt gonna be great considering its that low but if im honest it sounds like a telecaster, as of the putting it together, it was just me changing the strings because of preference but other than that it was easy, it was a guitar i planned to relic and frankinstein some more after i got it but this is the picture after i did mine but u can get the idea with what you see, it feels great and the thickness is comfortable. ... show more

  • Amazing Guitar if you know how to set up Guitars
Color: Satin Vintage Blonde
Sounded good after a set up, the stock pickups didn’t have a lot of punch so I upgraded them, now it’s almost as good as my Tele!

  • You may have some work to do...........
Color: Satin Vintage Blonde
The KGD relic series is worthy of a 5 star rating for the price. Is it a perfect relic? No. Although the body is nicely reliced, the neck and hardware are not reliced. So depending on what you are looking for, you may have some work to do. If you want the "look" of a relic and a decent player, here it is, look no further. If you want the closest thing to the "real deal", you will have to patina the chrome, upgrade to electronics, including pickups, and tuners. If you spend a little time and $, you can get a guitar that looks, feels, and sounds, like a vintage road worn instrument. ... show more
