After using more keyboards than I'd like to admit, this one managed to earn a permanent place on my desk instead of becoming another resident of the growing keyboard storage shelf. The white finish looks clean and modern, while the compact 96 percent layout cleverly retains the number pad without demanding the amount of desk space normally associated with full size keyboards. Its sturdy construction immediately gives the impression that it was designed for years of regular use instead of surviving until the next trendy model arrives. The build quality deserves plenty of praise. The chassis feels rigid with very little flex, and the OSA PBT keycaps have a textured finish that remains comfortable during extended typing sessions. They also resist the shiny wear that often develops on lower quality ABS keycaps, making the keyboard look newer for much longer. Installation and connectivity were pleasantly straightforward. Bluetooth pairing completed quickly, the included 2.4GHz receiver maintained a dependable wireless connection, and the wired USB mode worked immediately without additional software. Compatibility with Mac, Windows, and Linux makes it especially appealing for users who regularly move between different systems throughout the day. Typing feels exceptionally smooth thanks to the Red linear switches. They require relatively little force and travel consistently from top to bottom, making them particularly enjoyable for gaming and rapid typing. The 96% layout doesn't get enough credit. It is the answer to a question that full-size keyboard users eventually ask themselves, which is whether they actually need all that space between the main cluster and the numpad and whether there's a better layout. The V5 Ultra compresses everything together, keeps every key including the numpad, drops the navigation cluster that most people touch maybe twice a year, and gives back a meaningful amount of desk space for the mouse on the right side. The white looks so clean and bright against the desk. It draws your eyes to it. The red linear switches are either exactly what you want or completely wrong for you, and if they are what you want, the Silk POM Red switches here are among the best factory lubed linears I have used at any price point. The stroke is uninterrupted from the moment of contact to the bottom housing with no tactile bump, no scratchiness, and no acoustic inconsistency between keys. The factory lubrication is applied well enough that there is no dry key in the set, which is not something you can say about every pre-lubed board. Long typing sessions on these disappear in a way that only a properly smooth linear allows. ZMK firmware is the reason wireless mechanical keyboards are finally worth taking seriously for daily use. The power management is built into the firmware architecture rather than bolted on afterward, which is why the 4000mAh battery here translates to weeks of real use rather than the days you get from a QMK based wireless board running Hall Effect sensors. The 660 hour rating with backlight off is the ceiling, but even with RGB active the charge cycle is measured in weeks. Combined with the 8K polling rate over 2.4 GHz, the wireless performance is genuinely indistinguishable from wired in daily use. The programmable multimedia knob has become a feature I refuse to give up on any board I use regularly. Volume, media controls, or any custom macro without touching a function layer combination is a quality of life improvement that is difficult to explain until you have it and then cannot imagine going without it. The box comes with extra keycaps, a switch/keycap puller combo alongside the USB-C cable and 2.4 GHz receiver. Keychron consistently includes the tools you actually need rather than padding the accessory list with things that end up in a drawer. Hot-swap sockets support both 3-pin and 5-pin MX switches which means the red switch choice is not permanent if preferences change. The OSA profile keycaps sit slightly spherical at the top compared to Cherry profile but the adjustment period is minimal. It's a great keyboard and a great price point for what you get.

I'd heard all of the hype about mechanical keyboards but never really tried one until now. I am hooked! The keys are so much softer on my fingers and I find I get less pain in my hands than with my super flat laptop keyboard. More than that, this one comes with all of the bells and whistles - programmable buttons, fancy swirling programmable LEDs, etc. My only slight complaint is that it's taller than I am used to, so I will need to get a wrist pad. But I am SUPER impressed with the quality and build, it really is an impressive unit.

This is a neat mechanical keyboard with a nice clack and a soft landing. It has the rgb lights and the heft of a good one -- all the bells and whistles -- and comes with extra keys and internal mechanics (and the tool to take keys off safely). At arrival, it has mac ios keys on, but they can easily be switched for windows keys where needed. I did a quick search on Keychron before ordering and it is a reputable and well-known brand. There are mixed opinions on what is "the best" for thjs price range, but as someone who is on the search for what works seamlessly over stressing about perfection, this is a hitπ. The quality lacks nothing and the brand name is good on my conscience. I typically do rather mundane coding and reporting tasks, so I'm having my brother also give some input on this one -- he has more of a sensitivity to latency and usability. He is not a heavy gamer though; For that, you may want to read some other reviews. So far, he really likes it, and he's been trying out different keyboards without landing on one he is satisfied with so far, so we'll see how this one goes. (If he notes any difficulties or "could be betters", I'll update it here.)

I think of Keychron the way I think of Logitech or Corsair. They make nice boards that you can usually find at a big box store, and are meant for the masses who want something that looks pretty good and just works without having to do a lot of other stuff to it. And there's nothing wrong with that - the keyboard I used for over 15 years (and replaced once after it broke with the exact same model) was a Logitech that I swore I would never part ways with. But times change and tastes change, and mechanical keyboards have gotten really good. Really, really good. And mechanical switch options have gotten incredibly good as well. So, having said that, this Keychron is a very good, standard board. Having now owned and tried well over 100 mechanical keyboards, am I absolutely blown away by this one? I mean, no - it's not meant to be an enthusiast-level board. But is it going to feel and sound miles better than any bog standard office keyboard you've encountered? Absolutely, yes. Especially if you're someone that needs a number pad. Something to note, however, is that this does not have a standard sized 0, so if you're used to 10-keying and have the muscle memory where your thumb is hitting that key, you're going to have to train yourself to scoot your thumb over a bit. I found this difficult when I was still using full-sized boards, and preferred a full-size 0 for this reason. The build quality here is solid, considering that it's constructed from all plastic. That's not a knock on it, by the way. Most keyboards are plastic and have been since the advent of the modern keyboard. I opened mine up to see what goodies they put inside, and was surprised to see a decent amount of foam to remove any hollow plastic sounds from the case. There's plate foam, PCB foam, case foam and then some kind of thin plastic-backed foam sheet. They've mostly succeeded in this, but the switches and keycaps also play a role in sound and feel. The included foam feels like EVA or something... it's not poron, which tends to have a denser structure and makes sounds resonate a bit different (and more pleasantly, in my opinion). Some of this can be switched out, if you really want to, but for someone who's not fanatical about keyboard sounds, this might not matter all that much to you. I did try removing the foam to see what sound was achieved, and it was... not good. This board needs foam, period. The red switches are exactly what you would expect from a red switch. They're linear and come factory lubed to eliminate basically any scratchiness that might otherwise be present, though there is a small amount of spring ping that can be heard in some of the switches if you listen closely enough. The switches sound pleasant, adjacent to the "creamy" sound that is all the rage, but they're relatively quiet so they won't be disruptive in a shared office environment. Though I typically prefer tactile switches, the brown tactiles that come standard on this model aren't my favorite. Thankfully, since this board is hot-swappable, if you hate the switches (or the keycaps, for that matter), you can use the included tool to pull them out of the board and replace them with whatever tickles your fancy. Keep in mind, however, that removing switches, for whatever reason, is kind of tough. I really had to pull hard in order to get the switches out. It could just be that the metal plate has no give, so you really need to compress the nub on the switch to be able to get them to release from the plate, or it could just be that they're a tight fit. Either way, I think that replacing all the switches in this large board would take quite a lot of effort just because of the amount of force needed for removal. It can certainly be done, but it probably won't be very enjoyable and your hands might hurt afterwards. If you have one of the spring-loaded switch pullers that has 4 prongs that grip the switches from all sides, it does help, though it's still tough to pull them out, and you do feel like you might be breaking things every time you yank one. I really like the overall look of the keycaps and although I typically prefer cherry profile, these aren't too tall or uncomfortable to use at all. The legends on the keycaps are, by and large, pretty consistent except those around the number pad. For some reason, the font weight on several of those keys is much heavier than all the rest of the keys. It seems like an odd choice or an odd mistake. They do feel a bit on the cheap, thin side, but given that they're stock keycaps and come with the keyboard, I can't fault Keychron for that. I do give them credit for making them a slightly different profile than standard cherry, since this makes this keyboard really stand out, but again, if you hate them, it's your prerogative whether or not you want to swap them out for something higher quality or more aesthetically in line with your preferences. The white case of the board really makes for an awesome backdrop for of a lot of keycap variety. The web launcher for programming and rebinding keys works well, though I would prefer direct VIAL or ZMK access. There are some fun things you can do with programming though, and it's worth a look if you want to make some shortcuts or macros. 8k is overkill for a keyboard, supposedly. It is a lot of info to be constantly sending to your computer, and for my purposes, I just don't need it, so it's not a feature I plan on enabling, but if you're a gamer, this might be something that's important to you. For under $120 at the time of this review, I think this board hits all the notes that a budget mechanical keyboard for general consumption needs to hit.
