  • Solid budget bit for occasional spoil board leveling
Size: 1/4” Shank x 1-1/2” Dia x 3/10” Cutting D...
(review of KEENTECH Surfacing Router Bit - 1/4” Shank 1-1/2”) I bought this router bit to surface the spoil board on my first large-format CNC, a V1 Engineering Lowrider4. It worked well on the MDF board I’m using, providing a smooth, even surface with no issues. While I don’t expect this bit to be especially long-lasting—especially with heavier use—it’s definitely up to the task for occasional leveling of a soft spoil board. For anyone needing a budget-friendly option for light surfacing work, this bit performs reliably and gets the job done without fuss. ... show more

  • Great bit that leaves a clean edge for a good price..
Size: 1/4” Shank x 1-1/2” Dia x 3/10” Cutting D...
I have accumulated a few of these surfacing bits in the past years and use them in a homemade router sled jig. Most use a 1/2" shank as I feel they are less likely to flex. I knew I would have to take multiple shallow passes, but wanted to be able to use my Dewalt 1/4" router for my next project. Honestly, I am a little intimidated by my 2 1/4 HP 1/2" router with these wider bits and wanted to try something less scary. I made a serving tray out of hardwood scraps and wanted to make it flat. The first pass was barely a 32nd deep and went perfect. The bit did a great job and left a very clean cut. I felt a second pass would get the entire project flat and smooth, so I ran another 32nd deep pass and it worked great. I had one area that had red oak and blood wood and that splintered pretty bad. The cutting blades still had smooth edges so I was happy to go one shallower pass. This did the trick and the project looked great. I ended up making the serving tray into a couple of hot pot rests due to a gouge that I made with a round over bit, but that had nothing to do with this bit. After multiple passes on various projects the bit is still cutting clean. I have not needed to sharpen them yet, but there appears to be enough thickness that it will be easy to sharpen a couple times. For the price this is a great bit, and I can easily recommend it..... ... show more

  • Router bit left raised edges
Size: 1/4” Shank x 1-1/2” Dia x 3/10” Cutting D...
I used this bit on flattening a red oak cookie. It left raised edges along every pass. I had to go over the whole surface with another bit. I realize all bits leave some edges but these were bad. Was using a craftsman router at (I think) 25k speed.

  • Works well in my air cooled 3040 CNC spindle with a 1/4" collet. Cuts clean and flat. Recommended.
Size: 1/4” Shank x 1” Dia x 1/4” Cutting Depth
I ordered this bit to help flatten/true a spoilboard surface for my 3040 CNC router. I also like the idea that I can use this to convert my CNC (or a handheld router and jig) into a makeshift planer. I'm impressed with the quality of this bit. The edges look like they have precision grinding, they're sharp and the bit cuts very flat as expected. This is has worked very well for me on softwoods. I installed a 1/4" collet on my import router spindle so this fit very well. They also include a 1/2" to 1/4" collet adapter with the bit which is a very nice touch. The 1" size is large enough to make quick work of things but honestly I'd like to go even wider. The other size they offer is/was a 1-1/2" spoilboard surfacing bit and to be honest I chickened out. That seems too big for my weak air cooled spindle. This bit came in a well labeled plastic storage box which keeps it protected while not in use. Overall I'm pleased. At the time of review this is priced under $13 making it a vey good value for a decent quality surfacing bit. The steel body and shaft are good quality and the YG6X tungsten carbide cutting blade edges are well made and durable. I've had no issues with softwood. I haven't tried this bit on plastic or hardwoods but I don't anticipate any issues. I would recommend this based on my experience so far. ... show more
