  • Update: took forever to break in
Size: 9.5 Color: Vintage Indigo/Peachy Keen
I have had them for a couple weeks and walked about 10 miles in them trying to break them in and get used to them. 1st issue: the toe box is actually not particularly wide. Coming from a pair of Altra hiking shoes, my feet definitely feel cramped. But I was also spoiled with that toe box, so I was willing to overlook that. It's definitely wider than a pair of Merrells. 2nd issue: The right boot has started making a crinkling sound, like the glue is dried out and bad. 3rd issue: The left boot has a weird seam right above the pinky toe that is rough and creates blisters. This is not in the right boot. The right boot feels awesome, just makes a weird sound. For the money, I would have liked a sturdy pair of boots that didn't cause blisters. I think Keen needs to tighten down their manufacturing. The fact that two boots in the same pair to have two very different problems, is concerning. I have a hiking trip coming up that I don't have time to break in a new pair for, So I'm going to wrap my foot, bring some extra glue, and my old Altras for backups. Fingers crossed these hold up in the New Hampshire white mountains. **UPDATE** I took these boots with me to climb Mt. Washington. I wore them as much as possible in the days leading up to the hike. After about 15 miles of wear, they FINALLY were broken in. It was like a switch flipped and they're super comfortable hiking boots now. The weird seam is no longer poking out, and the toe boxes loosened up. They served me quite well on Mt Washington. The soles were super grippy and worked well on wet and slushy rock. When we got into the compacted ice, i added Microspikes and the boots felt very stable with those on as well. I've had hiking boots where spikes felt weird, but felt fine on these. Updating to 4 stars, because I'm still not totally sure about the glue on the one boot. I took it to a bootery and they said it was fine, but without removing the sole they couldn't be 100% sure. I recommend these IF you have the time to break them in THOROUGHLY before your adventure. ... show more

  • Waterproof & Durable
Size: 9.5 Color: Magnet/Atlantic Blue
These boots are waterproof and very durable. I’ve had them slightly over two years now & still love them. My only complaint is that I wish they had more cushion in the midsole, because if I walk too quickly in them I have a tendency to develop slight shin splints. Outside of that they’ve been great for Michigan winter weather & walking my dogs in any & all conditions. This is a great choice for getting a high quality product without spending over $200. Also love the leather & colors available. ... show more

  • Good Boot
Size: 10 Color: Toasted Coconut/Porcelain
I tried on SO many hiking boots before our families cross country camping trip. I am mostly pleased with this boot. Wide toe box feels roomy. Soles are comfortable and not too hard like a lot of boots I tried. The soles are smooth inside the shoe, and don’t have a lip that rubs the edges of your feet like some other brands I tried. The only struggle I have is I have skinny ankles and so I wrap my laces once around the boot ankle before tying to make the ankle for more tightly. If I don’t, my ankles don’t feel supported and I get chafing/blisters. I hiked moderate trails, some while carrying a baby on my back over rocky terrain. GREAT grip! Also spent a week at a dusty camp where I wore them all day to keep my feet from getting nasty and drying out, they remained comfortable even with days on end wear. ... show more

  • Saved my life!
So this is the first time I purchased a pair of hiking boots. Did lots of research, used Amazon’s amazing “try before you buy” service and ordered 3 other brands, and all in 2 sizes each. Merrel Moab was it’s biggest competition in my eye, but this one won the battle, I’ll tell you why: I felt like these had more toe room. Merrel definitely felt like a sneaker though. Suuuuper comfy right away. But these, to me, gave my foot more structure, wiggle room for my toes, and the biggest thing: they were slightly higher on the ankles, which is what I needed. I have injured my ankle and could not afford to do it again, so I absolutely needed all the help I could get. These did not need a break-in period, in my opinion. I wore them once on a 1.5 mile easy walk back home before hiking for 5+ hours and they felt the exact same, which was comfort to begin with. Hopefully they do get a bit comfier with time but they are perfect as they are. These saved me multiple times in our visit to Acadia. I would have twisted my ankles a couple times over, if not for these. They also had great grip for all the terrain we encountered there, we walked through creeks and mud and these bad boys kept me dry. I was a little worried about the reviews showing these boots falling apart too soon, but ultimately I decided to just go with my gut and get them because they felt right to me. I think trying a few different brands on is vital to choosing a good pair of boots for you. I also considered the Columbia Newton Ridge but was scared of the “toe bend” that develops on the top of the boot, I was positive that I’d be a lucky one to have that happen, but they did feel SUPER comfortable as well, just like the Merrels, like a sneaker. So try them on if you can! Important to note: sock are a major component on your comfort so make sure you try out a couple of good pairs. ... show more

  • Wore Out of The Box!
Size: 8.5 Color: Weiss/Boysenberry
It was either these or orthopedic shoes with the velcro straps! My feet are protected and padded so well. Plus, the edgy fashion look suits my style much better. The ankle support was a bonus. I recommend these to anyone suffering from compromised ankle function, wholeheartedly.
