  • Order half size up for length. Width is ample.
So happy with these boots and that’s saying a lot since I have so many foot problems. It’s always worrisome to buy shoes online so I’ll try to describe these best I can. First of all I won’t be making any 20 mile hikes. I’m over 70 and need boots to allow for my farm chores and bad weather, not mountain climbing, but if these work for me, how much better for those who are young and spry. I’ve overweight and my feet tend to swell quite a bit, plus I have fused big toe joints. I can no longer get tall boots on at all and even regular tennies can pose a problem if I can’t open them wide. I need a big toe box and decent width, but have narrow heels. I need a cushiony insole, but also arch support (flat feet), low heel to toe height ratio and a rocker bottom to help with my stride because of bad ankles. It seems an impossible set of requirements. So it was with great trepidation that I ordered these boots. Pretty much all I can wear anymore is what my grandchildren call my ‘Air Grammas’, thick leather New Balance shoes with a wide tongue and stabilizing sole. Boots and shoes I could wear previously have been relegated to the back of the closet. These include Mephisto walkers and Timberland and Ariat boots among others. Heels too high, tongues too narrow, not enough flexibility or too much, you name it. These boots offer easy on/off while even having an attached tongue to aid in waterproofing. The toe box is ample and the width good, but you have to order a half size up for length. I did that and they are perfect. Even though the toe box width is generous, the heel is narrow enough to eliminate slippage. The built-in ankle stabilization is very helpful and the modified rocker bottom makes walking relatively easy for me, which is quite something. Few boots offer that. The padded ankle collar and height is very comfortable. The sole at the heel is not much higher than that at the toe which also makes walking easier for me. The sole is sturdy, but flexible at the same time. The mid-foot support is surprisingly good for my flat feet and although I often replace insoles with orthotics or other insoles to help my various problems, the ones that come in these boots are great just as they are. Normally I wear a 9B although on some shoes the B is too tight. That’s a problem with my narrow heels because a wide width affects heel width too. I bought these in 9.5B and they are perfect. I kept the packing, so sure was I that I’d have to return the boots, but it can all go out now. There will be no return. Very happy indeed. ... show more

  • Amazing comfort
Color: Goat/Crown Blue Size: 6.5
I have a difficult foot to find shoes or boots that work for me: wide, bunions, and recovering from plantar fasciitis. The other reviews are right: these boots are comfortable, the toe box is roomy, they are wide enough for me, the sides where they go past the ankles are comfortable (a problem I have with many boots this height.) Good traction on the soles which are sturdy enough to not feel rocks and tree roots underfoot. The insoles are removable to use special ones (although the ones they came with are quite good!) I bought a half-size up to accommodate socks and the fit is perfect. Love them! ... show more

  • Nice boots, but absolutely NOT waterproof.
While reading the other reviews, this boot sounded perfect for my needs. And in general they are, with one very important caveat, which knocked them down two stars. These boots were delivered quickly without hassle. They are very comfortable and required no break-in time. The traction is very good and they are easy to walk in all day. I bought these for a trip into the Amazon Rainforest and one of the selling points I was interested in was the comfort and WATERPROOF claim (for, you know... the RAINforest.). I thought I would try them out first on a trip closer to home, so I wore them on a motorcycle trip to the Smokey mountains. The first two days of the trip were riddled with heavy rains. It was then I found out the one problem with these boots... they are absolutely NOT waterproof, by any stretch of the imagination!!! I was wearing a rain suit, which covered the top half of the boot. I was riding on a motorcycle all day, with my feet on foot boards/highway pegs, well above the road. It's not like I was stomping through puddles or streams. Regardless, at the end of each day, the inside of my boots were dripping wet. I wrung out my socks, mopped up the puddles inside of the boot and had to put a blow dryer in the boots. It took a few days for the inside of the boots to dry. Friends in the same weather, with GoreTex boots had dry feet at the end of the day. I wanted so much to love these boots, as they are so comfy. I don't know if I got a defective pair, or if the company needs to remove the false 'waterproof' claim. I'm going to try to spray these boots with water repellent, in hopes of making it through the Amazon rainforest trip semi dry. I can't afford to buy another pair of boots at the moment, so I'm stuck with these boots in one of the wettest biomes on earth. Bottom line: Great, comfortable hiking boots, but like Spielberg's Gremlins, KEEP THEM AWAY FROM WATER! ... show more

  • So glad I bought these
Color: Goat/Crown Blue Size: 6
I needed a sturdy shoe for walking on wet cobblestones in Central Europe and these shoes were the BEST. I like that the toe box was wide, my feet were warm with my thick wool socks. And as unstable as the cobblestones were, these shoes made me feel safe. They are very comfortable for hiking straight up a cliff to a castle, and came up a bit higher around my ankle, so when I stepped in puddles, the water did not splash into the shoes. I bought a size 6 and found they ran true to size, even with thicker socks. Note, the leather where the shoestrings loop at the top did get pretty scratched up but I don't care, just makes them look more patina to me. ... show more

  • Immediately comfortable
Color: Slate Black/Flint Stone Size: 7.5
I got Keens on the recommendation of my orthopedist after breaking my ankle. They are very supportive and there’s so much room in the toe box. Lots of tread. One of the best features is the hook at the top that holds the laces in place while you tie them so they don’t slip loose. I haven’t worn them in bad weather so haven’t tested its waterproofing, but the tongue is attached fairly high so that should help, yet very easy to put on. ... show more
